Conceal or Confess?

edited March 2014 in The Walking Dead

Say Walter hadn't found Matthew's knife in Clem's bag. So after Luke tells Clem to go dispose of the knife, she takes it out of her bag and two choices appear on the screen:

A. Toss the knife away

B. Show the knife to Walter

Which would you have chosen? Would you have done what Luke said and gotten rid of the evidence of Nick's guilt? Or would you have volunteered to tell Walter the truth about what happened to his partner?

    B

  • How about this? I'd choose B too because we've all seen that Walter can handle the truth if you approach it correctly.

Yes, you know that now. But try to put yourself into the mindset you had originally. What were you thinking that you would do when Clem was heading towards her bag?

In the game, Walter made telling him the truth easier by telling you that he pretty much already knew what happened. But if he hadn't known and if you could just avoid any confrontation whatsoever by just tossing the knife away, would you still have confessed?

And even if you confess, would you have told Walter the whole truth? Would you tell him that Nick did it? Would you cover for Nick and put the blame on yourself? Would you claim that Matthew was shot by someone else who wasn't in the group?

  • Well, there's no place for high school drama of hiding things behind people in the apocalypse, especially to someone as friendly and helpful as Walter. Trust is really important 2 years into the apocalypse.

  • I would of went with B because I felt that Walter had a right to know the truth about what happened to his lover.

  • I would pick A, cause i dunno know, Nick's FUBAR already?

I'd go with B. The whole reason Clementine argued that they should confess was because she felt they could trust Walter to not do anything rash. Plus she'd feel like she owed it to the ski lodge crew for being hospitable. And worse come to worse the cabin group outnumbered them and the weapons were put away (well except for Kenny...).

  • Definitely B.
Walter definitely deserved to know, especially since it was an accident. Accepting his friendship and hospitality while concealing the truth would have been totally not cool.

Also, while telling the truth had the possibility that Walter could seek revenge, Nick was more than ready to take the fall, he said so himself, what happens, happens.
I went into that confrontation with that mentality, if Nick HAD been killed by Walter, I would have been upset, but at least Nick would have gotten redemption, and Walter would know the truth/get his revenge.

  • A. Toss knife away. I promised Pete to keep Nick alive and showing Walter the knife was a risk to Nick's survival. I don't like to lie but in this case I would. Of course it would be a hard decision since I felt bad for Walter but Nick comes first in my play through.

Option B all the way. Walter's an intelligent guy, he already had suspicions about Nick before he finds the knife. It was a sad accident and lying about would only succeed in making things worse for Nick in the long run. Also, I figured that Nock would never be able to keep his mouth shut anyway and Walter would probably take the confession better from Clementine than Nick.

  • B. Show the knife to Walter. It's the right thing to do, and lying would've made things twice as bad.

  • At first my instinct was to hide the knife but knowing what i know now i would show him the knife even if there was an option to hide it.

  • I would toss the knife because then Walter would have thought Carver killed Matthew and Nick most likely would still be alive in most other playthroughs.

  • B because i tought nick was gonna become a liability to the group in the words of pete: " finger off the trigger son " nick almost shot clementine and then shot matthew for no reason and hes gonna screw up again so i would show the knife to walter so he could kill him.Its not like ben because i liked ben :D . And i felt like he was a teenager with the hromones ( like me but whatever) but nick is a grown man and he should be more carefull with a gun also ben never direcly kill someone witha gun or a knife he just made acidental mistakes .

  • I will chose A because you're not sure how capable Walter is to handle to the truth plus I have to protect Nick

  • I was planning on showing him the knife before I even realized it was missing from the bag.

  • B, because Walter deserved to know what happened to Matthew. Once Nick finds out what he did, even he says he needs to tell Walter, so it seems the best solution for both parties involved as Walter will learn the truth and Nick won't have to carry that with him. I wanted to come clean even before Luke showed me the picture, so this was easy.
