Your Top 10 or 5 favorite Games apart from Telltale games and why?

edited July 2014 in General Chat

For me

1. The Last Of Us = Just perfection Story, Gameplay, Graphics Naughty Dog perfected it all without the game ever getting boring or dragging on something I though was impossible. This up there with best movies I watched and add that to best gameplay absolutely ridiculous this is perfection. Story of Joel surviving the Zombie apop... trying to protect a girl called Ellie gives meaning to every action biggest emotional rollercoaster I was ever on.

2. Bioshock Infinite = This game blew my mind just takes intelligence and creativity to new level everything was beautiful and magical with mix of propaganda and psychology just a dream. In terms of gameplay just average shooter but a lot of fun endless bullets shooting everything that moves. But it's the powers that make it perfect fire, Ice, possession etc every gamers dream. The story takes Booker De Witt to a sky world to collect girl named Elizabeth to pay off debt but everything so crazy really hard to really explain how beautifully chaotic whole story is.

3. Far Cry 3 = This game is open world perfection with one of best villains seen in gaming. Taking you into a jungle with no idea where you are with your friends missing at start just about escape villain who just's toys with you and messing with your head. At start feel like little girl lost in the woods everything attacks you animals, humans an impossible task but by the end when master all tricks feel like Rambo or Predator and everything fears you. In terms of gameplay beautiful shooter where aim through gun with no dot. Recovery by holding button and fixing yourself. Drive Cars, Buy Guns, Hunt animals, take over bandits army areas etc has everything also has mystic story going on brilliant

4. Read Dead Redemption = No game will ever master the cowboy game like this in fact every cowboy game will be judged by how good it is compared to this. John has to murder all his old gang members to get amnesty and avoid getting arrested also get his family back who was taken by government till he completes his task. Become Rambo of cowboy world first game truly felt like badass all justice was made by my bullets HELL YEAH. Open world game, Slow motion shooting, hunt animals, get own horse also brilliant shooting and shoot off with bandits just superb quality story

5. Tomb Raider = Story of how helpless intelligent weak English girl Lara Croft becomes the female Rambo who can take out army's with crossbow and solve any puzzle absolute genius and badass in search to find and save her friends after being shipwrecked on an island. Love new line of female in gaming no more big breasted helpless idiots with have ellie, Elizabeth, Clem, Jodie Holmes and Lara etc loving the new take on female in gaming and honestly more attractive trait all badasses. Gameplay exactly like uncharted one shot headshots that I love. Gameplay just progress through island explosions everywhere random objects falling just pure adrenaline rush tons of enemies as Lara struggles mentally after her first kill and struggles to survive. My Crossbow is my favourite weapon ever in a game so many headshots love stealth element just brilliant game

6. Uncharted 3 Wanna go on a adventure to find treasure with endless enemies and spiritual elements also learn so much about the past with crazy levels with fast paced story and perfect gameplay here you go. Nathan Drake treasure hunter searching all areas around the world all tombs, pyramids etc. But of course when objects his searching for worth a lot of money every game in constant race with bandits to take them out but also find the treasure first. Explosions and objects falling everywhere just constant adrenaline rush game so fast paced always entertained as even in gameplay something random happens every two seconds. Gameplay Shooting with dot and solving puzzles just superb

7. Bully = GTA in a school first game ever completed and story blew me away. Basically your school kid who's always in trouble brought to boarding school with a lot of politics and corruption going on. First game met a character actually wanted to kill weak school kid who manipulates me to do his dirty work then betrays me and try's to kill me such a backstab had so much rage. Gameplay scoters, skateboards, bikes to ride. Fight with punches, stink bombs, slingshots etc. Do classes during the day with fun minigames with upgrades. Sneak around school at night and be hunted by headmaster. Get in trouble have cut the grass the more trouble you cause the more grass you cut. One day just cutting grass for hour and a half for getting in max trouble detention was hell perfect story.

8. Assasin creed 2 or Max Payne 3 or la noire or the darkness = finish later

9. Arkham City = Hunt genius Joker again with terminal illness trying take down the city who also gives you the illness so have find the cure while fighting more famous villains in inspiring story. Open world adventure become the batman uses all gadgets to fly through city or surprise a villain. Fight your prey straight on or hide in the shadows to terminate them to become perfect dark knight. Just love it with one best ending ever

10. Heavy Rain = Innovators of the point and click decision game without this telltale walking dead would of never of happened. The story of Ethan Mars search for his sons killer with constant mystery as when happened he fainted so might be him constantly hunted by police has to complete all killers challenges to get clues and find killer begging the question to you how far will your morals go to save your son. Gameplay Decisions, timed dialogue, QTE's, Hub areas, Puzzles also control 4 characters in the story who judging by your decisions and success in QTE's interact in the end to solve the puzzle.
Multiple scenes changes and endings made by your gameplay so actually do create own story brilliant graphics movie based beautiful story.

    1. Homeworld.
Highly original as the first RTS allowing fully 3D freedom of movement. Great gameplay and epic space battles. AMAZING story which would take too long to go into here (think Battlestar Galactica but with various races). Atmosphere: someone else put it better than I could: "The value of subtlety [...]. Even with battles at their most grand, the undertones were always slightly melancholy. Delivered in part by the pacing, but also the illusion of scale that the backdrop provided. It made you feel small. And underneath all of that was the Paul Ruskay soundtrack - that wailing middle-eastern sound and earthiness.". I am really looking forward to replaying this when Gearbox release the HD version later this year.

    2. Thief: The Dark Project
This game was so original and got so much right. Atmosphere, engaging story full of twists, fun equipment and the best stealth-ing to date. This was the first game where messing with the AI characters to see their reaction was really fun. But it also did things better than the recent reboot. Being more heist-based, it had a sense of mischievousness or rebellion, giving a feeling somewhat reminiscent of films like Oceans Eleven or The Italian Job. However, it also took a horror-survival turn along the way which was totally unexpected, and complimented your vulnerability well, invoking an "Amnesia" like feeling. It was really terrifying, in line with F.E.A.R. or Metro 2033. It also had hilarious evesdropping and lingo and a rich culture of various institutions. All of these things are not present in the reboot. I feel games like Dishonored, Hitman, Payday and Amneisa (that's crossing a few genres!) are all in part inspired by Thief.

    3. Interstate '76
Another game with excellent atmosphere and story, the first to combine these with modern vehicle combat. It had lots of interesting missions, vehicle and weapon upgrades, and great characters. Stay away from the sequel, it was just awful.

    4. Tomb Raider
The production value and attention to detail in this game are the best I've ever seen. They play-tested and polished the crap out of this until it was a really fun and gripping experience at every moment. Combat, exploration, story, weapon upgrades, characters and character progression are all wonderful.

    5. Borderlands 2
Best FPS/RPG hybrid and full of hilarity. Really fun to play through in co-op.

    6. Metro 2033 && Metro Last Light
Best single player FPS experience to date. Very linear, but this is great for storytelling since it's based on a successful novel. Very enjoyable stealth as well as combat and survival horror sections. Stunning atmosphere, and the sequel Last Light only improves on this with the best graphics I've seen in a game. The tension is always high, the only relief when you pass through an underground outpost, populated with much personality, warmth and humorous chatter, before venturing out into the hellish void again. This game is at times terrifying. To me, it is HL2 done better than HL2, and stealth done as well as Thief. The desperate, ammo scarce (and oxygen and visibility scarce) combat to me invokes feelings like The Walking Dead, Bioshock or The Last of Us during the sections where you're fighting other humans and wondering if you're actually on the right side. This is another game that has been play-tested and polished very thoroughly.

    7. Battlezone 2
For me, this married the mechanics of Homeworld & Interstate '76: a proper RTS with the twist that you played one of the units in first person.

Given this is an adventure gaming community, I'm making my last 3 point & click adventures: 1 fantasy, 1 horror and 1 sci-fi:

    8. Heroine's Quest
Fantasy point & click adventure/RPG hybrid. The graphics are retro but the game is highly complex for the genre, and has much replay value due to the difference solutions to puzzles depending on what class you picked. Great attention to detail in this freeware game.

    9. The Cat Lady
Excellent horror with very dark and engaging story.

    10. Primordia
Excellent dystopian sci-fi with original and multi-dimensional writing and a rich universe. Written by a lawyer, the game encourages you to consider problems and characters from different perspectives and philosophies.

These 3 all have very low-tech graphics, but they're beautiful in their own right and the gameplay, story & atmosphere are more than worth it.

Hello again, Markd. I shall contribute to this thread of yours, starting now. :P

    1. Indigo Prophecy - Played the hell out of this game as a kid, wish I still had the game though, it had a fantastic storyline, amazing graphics for its time, and superb characters all in 1 package! Plus, it had pretty hilarious extras to unlock too!

    2. Max Payne - Max Payne 1 and 2 are just, instant classics. I wish that Remedy would still own the rights to Max Payne and not Rockstar, since to be honest: Max Payne 3's storyline was garbage compared to the other 2 games.

    3. Alan Wake - An excellent game that takes storytelling to the next level, and surprisingly filled with lots of action as well!

    4. Bully - A free-roam game where you can beat people up, shove people into lockers and throw stink bombs at people? Sign me up!

    5. GTA 5 - I don't think that there's much to be said about this game, other than its most amazing quality.

Eh, I could've done better with the descriptions, but I think that'll do for now. Enjoy!

    Ten? TEN!?

    1. Deus Ex - Just.... I can't even start.
    2. Half-Life series - First game had a lot of things I'd never seen before, the physics in the second game are amazing.
    3. Final Fantasy Tactics - I really like turn based strategy games. I'm a big fan of this one's character customization, battle system and story.
    4. Front Mission 3 - Another TBS. This one had two different main storylines based on whether or not you decided to help your friend make a delivery in the beginning. Either way, you're trying to find a missing WMD by fighting across Asia in your giant robots.
    5. Battlefield 2 - I probably spent thousands of dollars going to a LAN cafe to play this game.

    1. GTA V: Basically the only game I played this fall. Great story, even more fun playing online with friends. So much potential for crazy hi-jinks.
    2. Skyrim: I've sunk sooo many hours into this game. Strong gameplay and amazing myths overall.
    3. Spec Ops: The Line: easily the most gripping and horrifying game I've ever played. It delivers stark, unrelenting horror from start to finish. It will completely defy your expectations and make you feel like a horrible human being, but it is worth it. Overall, it's a brutal deconstruction of shooters.
    4. Papers Please: It's a game about stamping passports, which manages to tell a rich story and be a lot of fun.
    5. Fallout: New Vegas: I love the gameplay, universe, characters, everything. Such a fun game!

  • bump MOAR LISTS

  • I think you made a similar thread about top 5-10 characters. Good threads man. I don't have many good games that I liked a lot but here it is.

    1. The Last Of Us. Great minds think alike :D. It was so awesome, from the amazing storytelling, and cut scenes. To the perfection of game play. Building bombs, conserving ammo, and even the melee was great. I got so attached to Joel, and Ellie, and even Bill! Definitely a masterpiece. One of my favorite games ever. A friend actually mentioned it. I didn't really think I would get it but I eventually ended up buying it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
      Alt text

2.Skyrim Open world, medieval-ish RPG. Pretty cool, as I enjoy dialogue, and role play. Lots of exploring, quests, and if your on a harder difficulty it actually requires skill, precision, and tactics on what weapons to use next. It has a wide range of races, and skill trees for you to expand on.

    Alt text

3.Grand Theft Auto IV I honestly liked it better then the new one story wise. I just liked to feel of it all. GTA V had more features, like better online, wider ranges of vehicles, and so much more. But GTA IV just felt very original story to me. I really like the choice making moments to!

    Alt text

4.Uncharted 1(Drake's Fortune) Gotta love Naughty Dog. Uncharted 1 had the best story for me. Really cool, and excellent intro to the series.

5.Battlefield 4 One of my favorite shooters so far. Feels so realistic, and amazing graphics. Gotta love blowing up buildings!
