Am I the only one who thinks that Season 1 is alot better than Season 2?
I know, I am probably going to get alot of dislilkes/hate comments, but I have to get this off my chest. First, I hate the fact that hubs were removed there were so many opportunities. There was no point in removing them and those elements made the game feel like a game. Second,
Episodes don't feel independant anymore, it feels like they are one story stripped in 5 parts. Unlike season 1, which each episode had its own story(safe place, starvation, traitor, boat, saving clem). Third, the most important one, I don't care about a majority of the new characters. The only people I care about is nick(Determinant, going to die), Pete(dead), Luke(disappeared), walter(dead), mathew(dead)(NOTE: I am talking about the new characters only). I don't care about the rest of the cast. This makes me sad, because in episode 1 of season 1. I cared about carley, doug, kenny, clementine, glenn, shaun, lee. In episode 2 I cared about ben(during the episode, before you know), lily(Same as Ben), Mark , Joleone(I felt real sympathy for her when danny shot her and after watching that tape). Personally, I would have ditched the group if it wasn't for luke and nick. I would add more, but I think I made my point. I hope I haven't offended some fans, which I think I have, I was just expressing my opinion on how I feel about this season. Some of you may feel some of my points are invalid, but in the end its just an opinion.
Comments
Everyone thinks that S1 is better than S2 I'm pretty sure.
no mostly anyone that plays s1 and s2 thinks s1 is better but s2 is an amazing game so far and i hope it keeps going the path it is cause it has impressed me very much so far
Well no, actually i don't.
In my opinion the first two episodes of Season2 were better than the first 2 episodes of Season1. But anyway, it's impossible to decide what Season is better at the moment, because there only had been two episodes of Season2 released yet.
I don't think it's fair to say that when there are only two episodes of S2 out.
In my humble opinion, I enjoyed the first two episodes of Season 2 more than I enjoyed the first 2 episodes of Season 1. (Though it's really, really close with Starved for Help and A House Divided.) Will be interesting to see if I can say the same of the next three.
I do agree that there definitely needs to be hubs/more character interaction again, though. I don't quite agree with the 90 minute thing they've established.
Am I the only one that is indecisive due to the whole SEASONS 2 NOT FULLY RELEASED YET, bit to early for any judgement imo..
So far I'd say the plot is about equal in both S1 and S2 ( though on a persona basis I like S1's better because the beginning of the ZA is always the most interesting to me) but I don't think the same can be said for characters, and character development (episode by episode comparatively).
I know that not all episodes are released yet, but the first two episodes of season 1 got me attached characters much easier. I hate that they making the group incompetent for the sake of gameplay which really affects characterization and was not the problem with Season 1.
In fairness your completely right, but i'll withhold my judgement til the end of the season.
I agree with you, that it's more interesting to see/play the begining of the apocolypse and see how people react to this uncomfortable situation, instead of seeing/playing a character that has already been alive in this world for about 2,5 years.
Anyway, in my opinion Season1 - Episode1 started very slowly (what is just logical, since we got introduced to the game for the first time) and wasn't as good and emotional as Season2 - Episode1 was.
Season1 - Episode2 was very good, but in my opinion Season2 - Episode2 was even better! (That's just my personal opinion)
Again I'm not arguing plot. Both have pros and cons to them and it would be silly of me to try to convince people one is definitively better than the other. But, if you feel like listening to my opinion then I'll say:
I enjoyed the slow start to s1. Character integration with defined personas while all the while having very interesting and important plot points (if all be it more scarce than s2). Episode 2 on both seasons... well that's a damn hard choice. They were both faster paced with a lot happening to the characters and throwing events at yoy left and right, but again I'd have to give it to S1 (personally) because it seemed more intense when ramping up from the sloe pace of episode 1. Like it was going to shit real fast, were as in s2 it's already shit and it just carries over and keeps building (which is good, and correct story telling, I just prefer the way S1 does it more, which probably goes back to enjoying the start of the ZA more than the aftermath) .
The part I would argue is, as I said, better characters and character development in season 1 compared to season 2.
It's better than seeing Clem getting hurt if you seen ep.1 season 2.
I think with the first season of TWD, Telltale was still stretching its legs, giving its own creative spin on the Walking Dead universe, so it's a little bit unfair to compare it to season two, when Telltale has fleshed out its characters enough to really play around more with much more interesting sub-plots and whatnot.
It's often the case with popular franchises; the first installment of an adaptation of any popular stories is going to be about introducing the universe to those who haven't heard of those stories before. It's an incredibly challenging task because you're pleasing two groups of audiences - the fans who already know what is going on and would prefer to have new materials instead of rehashed ones, and the non-fans (newcomers or Telltale players who've never watched TWD, myself included) who need a guiding hand to the jargon and the lore of the universe. Once that obstacle is outta the way, the creators get to tell the story they wanted to tell without restraint. For an example, look at Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" movie franchise, which rebooted the Sam Raimi movie franchise which we could still remember very well.
But for Telltale, it's totally different. They've been doing this adaptation thing for a long time; Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and even freaking Law & Order! And with Season One of TWD, it's quite obvious that the team managed to do both things at once - introduce the universe to the newcomers while at the same time tell a great story of their own. That's an impressive feat.
Personally, I do prefer Season Two over One; it does feel more interesting with the badass eleven year old, and it definitely feels more intense - someone already starts dying in the first five minutes of episode one, and every odd is stacked against you for two-halves of the episode. This is Telltale comfortably entertaining you the way they want because there's no longer a need to get you the player comfortable with the universe (instead of trying to kill you for a dog bite).
Well I like both of them..however Season 2 could use some work but so far so good
Season 2 isn't even halfway through. Way too early to judge.
Personally i didn't think much of the first episode of season 2, but episode 2 was as good as any from the first season.
I happen to agree with both of you, In a way.
First of all The Walking Mustache. You are definitely correct ! Episode 1 of Season 1 was a bit slow for my taste which is why I enjoyed S2E1 more but like Viva said, One of the main reasons it felt boring was because we actually got our chance to get to know these characters, Excluding the part where you're looking for the damn Key of course up to this point I still hate that sequence. Lenght isn't a problem to me either. I enjoy this new approach Telltale has taken being able to develop the plot in a different way, Fast paced and action packed.
Onto Viva now. Yes, Character development was such a powerful weapon of Telltale in Season 1 that they haven't been able to use thus far. After Episode 1, We all knew Larry was the Overprotective asshole who was willing to be the buggests douchebag in history to protect his daughter. Lilly was the bi*** who although seemed pretty reasonable after the argument we all know she wasn't gonna be the most pleasant gal to be around, Oh she was power hungry too. Doug was the nice guy, The nerd who would fix stuff for the group and a friend we knew would have our backs. Carley was the hot chick who mastered guns like no one else, and at some point, CarLee was bound to happen.
This Season However, the only character that had truly developed is Nick. We don't know who Alvin really is, Carlos and Sarah have this weird secret no one knows. Is Luke a traitor or a good guy ? Is Rebecca nice, mean, or does she has mood swings even when she's not pregnant ? That's the only thing Season 1 had and Season 2 doesn't.
Before I start make a point telltale needed 300,000 sales to break even and sold over 21 million so with such small budget made something unbelievable so question would nearly be with such potential bigger budget is it hundred times better simple answer is no s1 is better
Gameplay
Was much better hub areas every section, puzzles and bit of shooting felt in full control of everything loved the decisions to not liner
Characters
Even from first episode connected with s1 cast much more in fact if any of s2 cast got killed feel wouldn't have as big impact as s1
Story
love story of redemption for Lee escaped murderer comes across an innocent little girl and goes all lengths to protect her even sacrificing his own life such a badass and beautiful story. Slow building such dark themes and small moments of happiness lost in negative depressive s2 the lost of hope in Clem really disappointed me
Better written:
Carlos a Doctor? Useless adults getting child to do everything? I just got lucky? Forced Omid and Sam deaths nuff said
But saying this honest opinion s2 still very good but better personally think no
That's what happens when you work on 4 games at once. The better writers were sent to work on the other 3 games.
I'm not sure I'd agree the only thing. Again I stand by my other points, but it's personal preference.
But I concur.
I'm not saying S2 is bad, I want to say S1 was far greater. Especially, in S1 I had something to lose. Clementine, Carley, or Kenny-family, even Ben, I cared them like they were actual people.
Emotional attachment was so deep in S1, every dialogue meant something.
But now...I feel like I became a heroine in FPS game?
I think the one advantage of Season 2 is that we get to learn more about the group Clem is hanging out with more so than in Season 1. In Season 1, Doug is a throwaway character because Telltale threw away some of his lines that would have made him more significant; in Season 2, we get proper development and interaction from both Pete AND Nick, regardless of who you choose to save later on. And then in episode 2 of Season 2, you don't have people left behind in the middle of the episode like Carley and Ben; you get the full treatment of being able to interact with just about everybody. I think that was why Season 2, for me anyway, felt like I got closer to the group much faster than I did in Season 1.
You're right about Clementine spending more time with this group than Lee did with his, I don't necessarily agree with the rest though.
So far at least, You don't really have the chance to sit down with a character and truly get to know him. Hell, Take Alvin for example, When he tells you to go get food and you try to talk to him he'll just keep giving you orders. In Season 1 you would get a chance to chat with him for a while about something meaningful. That's my only knock on this Season 2 though, everything else is Awesome and I don't really give a crap about lenght like other people.
Ah, but you get to learn something about Alvin's personality when he gives you orders like that - he gives preferential treatment when it comes to Rebecca, which really just makes the revelation about whose baby is it in episode 3 much more painful, but I digress.
I think the character that I couldn't really get up close and personal with the most was Carlos, which is kinda ridiculous considering that he and Clem had a number of conversations in both episode 1 and 2. My problem with Season 1 is Ben and Mark; they didn't appear till episode 2, but then, Mark was killed off in the same episode while Ben became part of the main group even though we didn't get that much time to know him that well. With Season 2, we get quite a number of conversations between all of the main group - Clem, Luke, Nick, Alvin, Rebecca, Carlos, and Sarah (that's seven characters to juggle with, if you don't include Carver who's given a lot of exposition in episode 2). Also, you even get to spend quite a while in the house with Sarah in episode 2, getting to know her better. With Season 1, Carley/Doug's barely there for two-halves of episode 2.
Point is, I think that the character development was much more awkwardly handled in Season 1 and some of them could have used more exposition, especially Doug and Glenn.
Speaking of Glenn, we wasted a lot of screen time getting to know him and then he just ran off like that. At least with Pete, you get to spend a little bit more time with him in episode 2 if you choose to save him in episode 1.
Season 2 is 10000000000000000000 times better than Season 1. Why? Well, for starters the setting, Carver, Protagonist, etc.
You have to actually finish season 2 before you come to that conclusion.
I loved season 1 and season 2, at least for me, is shaping out to be just as good as it. The goal of TWDG is still the same: save Clementine. Except now you ARE clementine, and she's growing up.
I think overall, telltale has outdone themselves. S2 is better IMO. I really can't say I like S1 more or I like S2 more because it's just not right. They are both excellent for different reasons.
Well the entire thing hasn't been released yet but IMO I think season one episode one and two aren't quite as good as season two's episode one and two. We'll just have to see how the series plays out, I honestly think so far that telltale will outdo themselves on this season comparing it to the last one.
I wish I wasn't on painkillers so I could remain focused long enough to give the opposing argument to everything you said. But, alas.... squirrel!!
Season 1 is much better so fare.
Season 1 was my first TellTale game so I really didn't know what to think of it. As time passed by and I finished the game, I was speechless because I didn't expect to go head over heels for this game.
I think it was this unexpected pleasure (plus the intriguing plotlines, fantastic dialogue, dimensional characters, atmosphere, thrill etc. I'd been looking for in a game) that made it one of my all time favourite games.
So when Season 2 came out, I was expecting great things from it. Of course we don't know if it stands with Season 1 but Season 2 has an unbelievably great start.
Despite making valid points, You fail to convince me . The Mark example is a good one BUT I personally feel like I know him better than everyone in this group besides Nick, Despite Mark being killed off instantly. There's actually this scene which focuses on the friendship between Lee and Mark and he gives Lee advice on how to treat Larry etc.
My point is, Almost every character last Season had his own " Minute of fame " , Each one had his own scene in which you got to know them better, Examples : Mark, Molly, Larry, Chuck. The only character thus far you've truly gotten a chance to have a lenghty chat with is Nick, which was my initial point.
The main reason Season 1 was such a success was Charavter development so I don't know how you would see it as cloudy but Hey, Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Season 1 was better. Had better writing.
Its mainly because S1 was more original and it was new. Yes, S1 has had a bigger impact on me then S2 but S2 is still a amazing and enjoyable game. Plus, u cant really judge S2 yet because not all the episodes are out yet. S1 episodes 3-5 were very good so maybe S2 will be. Also S2 Ep 3 looks very promising.
Even freaking BRIE had her own scene in which you got to chat to her and change your mind about her a bit. Carlos , Alvin, Luke, None of those guys have had their moment.
There's a new writer for episode 3 so expect something different than the last 2 episodes, I hope they have hubs this time. And learn about the Cabin group story, I think I'd like them more once I learn more about them.
I love them both, yes S2 lacking hub and stuff but there is still that one rare thing... soul
These modern games you call triple A games almost 99% lacks that compassion of making a game.
I can honestly say companies like Activisio and EA, they gives us what the charts says, what is estimated to be popular right now and WE being sheeps of industry cop-outs just obey. Point is most big developer companies ain't making games cause they love making them, but cause they know we obey.
That was makes companies like TellTale Games unique for they own right. Im being often upset about lacking news and release dates, and it was wrong doing, im sure they doing they're best giving us the product we deserve and i can actually live without hubs and enjoy the storytelling of minds of geniuses.
And yes, maybe S1 was superior (keep in mind S2 isn't finished yet) in many way but like Mega-Nashame stated above, when TWD was originally releases it was something new, and like always all new wears-out. And like sheeps we are we will buy these games till end of dawn.
I do miss the hub areas and the conversations you could have with characters in them. Still, I think that right now I feel about S2 the pretty much the same way I felt about S1 when I'd just finished episode 2. Yeah, I like S1 more right now, but I'd wait until we can see the big picture to make a judgement.
I know I'm not gonna convince you, or the people here giving you the thumbs-up; it's just how I see it and I tell it the way I do. So you can stop trying to convince me and just enjoy the conversation, because when things get too personal and we get too close to our own views and opinions, we will start to get nasty to each other, calling each other names, and things will go down ugly.
"Almost every character" (had their minute of fame) except Doug and Ben you mean - up till episode 2. We are still comparing episodes 1 and 2, right? And not being unfair to Season 2 that hasn't had the rest of the episodes released yet? Just saying.
Well, if you're gonna put it like that, everyone's relatively had their minute of fame too in season 2, and few to none of them were shorter than those in the first two episodes of your 'lengthy' season 1 chat sessions, TBH. And I'm not just talking about conversations, I'm talking dialogues and actions, exposition scenes that allowed us to know them better, which Carley/Doug and Ben clearly lacked for the better half of episode 2. A character doesn't necessarily have to 'talk' to have character development; action and just screentime alone speaks louder than words when done properly.
The thing I noticed about Season 1 is that, with the case of Carley, Duck,Katjaa and Ben, the other characters were deemed more important by Telltale that those four were kinda toss aside (Carley's gonna die in episode 3, but what's Ben's excuse?) in episode 2. Don't get me wrong, I know they were developed much further in later episodes, but to be fair, season 2's only got two episodes out and yet it's done so much development already. As you could see in my first list, I could name A LOT of exposition scenes for EVERY character, but that isn't the case with my second list (specifically Carley and Ben).
Here's the thing that I found to be much more smoother; in season 2 episode 1, we get to know a set of characters (Nick, Luke, Carlos, Rebecca, Alvin, Sarah) and we stick with that group of people till episode 2 and even till episode 3 (Nick, Luke, Carlos, Rebecca, Alvin, Sarah) (both Alvin and Nick could be kept alive till ep 3) instead of throwing anyone out (except Pete, but again, he's still around at the beginning of episode 2). Season 1 episode 1 had so many comic book cameo characters popping out like groundhogs that it feels like a commercial for the comic book (which is understandable, considering that Telltale needs to sell the product to the fans too), and the fact that they disposed of Glenn didn't help much either in telling us their intention.
Hence, that is why I think Telltale had a firmer grip on the characters in Season 2, giving them much more of a solid development than those in Season 1.
So far Season 2 is brilliant! But were only 2 episodes in guys...We can't say Season 2 is better or worst yet....We just have to wait.
Honestly, You completely lost me here, Sorry. We were having a debate about Character development in both Season but Now you keep repeating this word " Exposition" as if we were debating Which characters got more screen time.
There hasn't been a moment this Season where you GET TO KNOW any of the characters I mentioned. How in the blue hell is Carlos telling you to take care of his daughter any sign that his character is developing ? Right Know we're just kinda arguing about Three different things here so choose a topic and we'll stick with it. What do you mean Doug's character didn't have time to develop ? In Episode 3, Before his Death, You get plenty of opportunities to have chats with him aaandd I haven't seen that option YET with any of the people I mentioned.
I honestly can't find it in me to agree with any of the points you've made this far But I do respect your opinion.
