I don't hate Kenny.

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
I thought I should just clear this up, because I have been critisised for making this impression before on the forums.

I genuinely like his character.

The reason I don't always defend him on the forum is because there are many people here who think that Kenny is *always* right, and this annoys me.

I'm sorry dudes, but Kenny, while a nice guy, has done some pretty shit stuff in my opinion.

The reason I don't talk about him being nice is because there are already plenty of people doing it, and very few actually challenging any perceptions about him. Overall I'm just trying to make a more balanced and objective view of things.

So yeah, sorry if I've been annoying or if you will find me annoying in future. Just know that I am not doing this out of spite for him.

Furthermore people seem to get angry whenever I mention that I don't hate Lilly either. I guess I don't hate her because, without going into too much detail, I can really empathise with her situation and mental state at the time her anger burst and she murdered Doug/Carley. Thus, it infuriates me when people say he is undoubtedly a bad person through and through, rather than a good person turned bad because of all the shit that she's been though. But anyway, mini-rant over.

Thanks for reading, and sorry to those who have absolutely no idea who I am and think I'm just a crazy forumite :p

  • Kenny is a awesome character and pretty good guy in the game, But yes you have a point he is not always right.
  • I feel you man.I like kenny too,but sometimes he has a bad habit of being an ass.So I'm not on his side all the time.
  • Yeah I agree. I AGREE.

Man... that picture would be really useful right now ._.
  • I sided with Kenny basically ALL the way through (except dropping Ben), got his bro-speech, and love him to bits. But yeah he's done some shitty stuff.
  • Kenny is a very egoistic character
  • He often looses his temper, but he is a good guy :)

Yeah everything you said just explained my views on Kenny and Lilly. Good job man!
  • I don' t say he is a bad guy but in season1 counts just his opinion.A other opinion in his eyes was unworthy in discussion
  • For some reason it's 'cool' to hate Kenny now. In that case, consider me uncool.
  • I don't have a strong opinion, but replaying season 1 he actually annoyed me more than the first time (because of the whole fair-weather friend thing). On the other hand, now I'm really interested to see how things will go with his changes in season 2.
  • I don't hate either of them at all. I wish Lilly would've stayed because it would've been nice to see how much she could've changed. And although Kenny is sweet, he definitely has his faults. But the thing is, I don't want to like a person who's perfect. I want a character who messes up, who isn't right all the time, and may get on your nerves every once in a while. Those characters are the ones that feel like they're a part of your family. They're the ones you love the most.
  • Or perhaps more people are just becoming confident about voicing their dislike of Kenny. Or maybe Kenny is becoming dislikable?

To me, without any evidence, you sound just like the people who claim that it's becoming 'cool' to be gay.

It's like some weird anti-hipster movement thing that actually goes way too far and ends up with them trying to be hipster themselves.

  • Sure, but 'flawed but likable' describes about 75% of Telltale's characters.

  • I don't hate Lilly either, not really. I'd say that I strongly dislike her, but I'm willing to give her a chance to prove she's become a better person.

My stance on Kenny, well, you probably know.
  • I don't think Telltale will give her that chance.

It's a bit annoying because Kenny had his heroic moment and now he's probably going to get another one.

Lilly was of course supposed to get redemption for her crime in the comics but...yeah that didn't go too well.

I think telltale brought kenny back mainly as fan service, I can't think of another reason.

  • I hope they do, but I'm not expecting her to show up again, which is sad. I hate that whole RTW nonsense Kirkman made up. Why let TT use comic characters if you're just going to retcon it, Kirkman?

As for Kenny getting another heroic moment, I wouldn't be so sure. He's already proven that he's (or that he is able to be) a hero, so when he finally dies this time (for real) I wouldn't expect it to be all that heroic so much as it is tragic/sad. As for his role this Season, I would assume that we'll be helping him move past what happened with Kat and Duck, and I don't think that it's COMPLETELY fan service (though I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of it).

  • I think (and sort of hope) that he does something extremely controversial again, just to provoke interesting debate and maybe convince some people that he isn't all good. I think he may snap, although hopefully that won't be upon sarita's death because I don't want to believe telltale are that predictable

I also think that it will show that him and Lilly are actually extremely similar characters

  • I don't think you should be sorry. You have your opinion and I have mine. I understand where Lilly is coming from, but I still don't like her.

And hell, I don't think Kenny is an amazing guy. I think he's a flawed individual. That's why I love his character, I can relate to him. He saved my life in Episode 1, so I felt like I needed to repay the loyalty, so I sided with him in the meat locker. He repaid that loyalty and saved me from Danny. Him and my Lee were a team, they watched each others backs.

When Kenny called me family and said he was with me to the end in Episode 4, that's when I knew he was my third favorite character in the game, just behind Clem and Lee.

At the moment I think Kenny would be the best guardian for Clem, he isn't the greatest guy but we all know what drastic measures he will take in order to protect people he considers family.
  • Yeah, I realized that after I wrote it, but it's kind of true. People are trying to pass him off as "Perfect", when he's just like everyone else.

  • We all have our opinions, it is alright mate. :)

I like Kenny and his character. He is a flawed man who has witnessed and experienced the horrible event of losing his family. Despite that, he still remains quite reliable, resourceful and often shown his talent with engine and machines (His truck, RV, train and BOAT). Although I like him, that doesn't mean that I always side with his decisions.
