It's not a "gay love story", and if it were, it would still be better than Twilight. BUT, i think you should do better by calming down a notch, do you not think so? This is, after all, a forum for discussions of all sorts, and this registers as one of them. So it should not be taken aggressively. This is a thread which consists of personal opinions, after all, and maybe you could voice yours in a calmer way. Thank you.
It is the apocalypse who care?! And why is there is a gay love story in a horror game believe me telltale doesn't do stuff like that nick lost everything and it seems like Luke is his ideal he may like him but he is not in love with him
No, we have every right to speculate as we please. There are those of us who agree with the theory, and those who don't, and that's perfectl… morey fine.
It's those who are being bigots and homophobes who have derailed the thread completely, or those claiming things as facts.
This could have been a perfectly civil thread if the mods had actually helped remove some of the obviously offensive comments.
You know what I don't even care anymore if he is or not though I do have a feeling that he might be either gay or bisexual. I am not going to jump into conclusions until we know FOR SURE.
This again? Nuke threads always always seem to end up as flame bait for homophobes.
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. As of now; No 'word of god' on the matter = No canon sexual preference. He could be straight, gay, bi, asexual. I honestly don't see how it impacts his character.
You know what I don't even care anymore if he is or not though I do have a feeling that he might be either gay or bisexual. I am not going to jump into conclusions until we know FOR SURE.
Upvote if you don't care about sexual preferences and just want to play a game. (e.g. football fans wanting to watch football players skillfully play football or actors act without all the overwrought discussion of their every leaning and opinion regardless which direction it points)
Being predominantly attracted to people of the same sex makes someone gay, it has nothing to do with sex. A virgin can be gay and conversely a straight person can enjoy a homosexual experience and still be straight. Rhetorical question: If a homosexual man has sex with a woman would that make him straight?
Actually hooking up with a man and ENJOYING it makes you gay. If you are doing it for money, and do not enjoy doing it, then you are straight as my dick.
'Its easier to tell if someone's gay than if they're straight'
You are aware that that statement is contradictory and doesn't make sense, right?
Not to mention false: you probably think it's more obvious if you're gay because the majority of times it's from you noticing it from the way they dress etc., and so you never even realise the majority of gay guys and girls who aren't like that.
Precisely. The majority of people are straight. As you will agree it is easier to tell someone is gay as opposed to telling someone is strai… moreght. Since we are dealing with cartoon characters created by Telltale, we need to infer based off how they have characterized Nick. Since they have clearly done nothing to hint that Nick is gay, we need to assume he is straight. Im not homophobic or being rude, I could care less if Nick or any character is gay. However, it seems to be pretty clear he isn't.
And there's nothing to indicate Luke is attracted to women either... I'm not sure what your point is. Nothing indicates Luke is NOT attracted to women, therefore he is attracted to women?
I'm the sort of person that doesn't get hints easily so I had not suspicion at all while playing it. But after reading this you could very well be right, not to be stereotypical or anything but i'm a closeted gay and I would totally react like that lol.
Dude - you keep banging this drum but it just ain't playing.
Just because you can think of a non-gay reading of the signs that people are reading as signs he is gay doesn't automatically make you right.
The WHOLE POINT of this thread is that they are ambiguous and could be read either way. This thread isn't called "Nick IS gay" it's "do you think Nick is gay?"
You're right in that your reading of the signs as just being those of two close friends is a reasonable one. But then again, nobody is disputing that they could just be bros.
But saying you don't understand where the feelings are coming from shows a distinct lack of perception. Especially after 500+ posts that have gone through the signs with a fine tooth comb. Your problem here is that you are failing to think outside your own box.
See, I can totally understand why someone could say "I didn't see those as signs of him being gay." But I can also see how they are signs of being gay.
Your problem is that you're thinking these could never be read as signs of being gay. And that simply is not true.
I find it interesting that you accuse gay gamers of ramming it down your throat, but you feel the need to come in here and effectively say everything was better when uppity gays and women just let the straight fellas be the norm.
But they're not the norm. They're just part of a very complex spectrum of people. Even among supposedly straight folk there is a lot of variety and complexity to their interests.
But here's the real kicker. You say activists have started forcing these pro-gay things down your throat. But where is Nick being a gay character - 1 in, what, 6 characters - forcing pro-gay things down your throat? Or better yet - where is it on this forum that you are forced into this thread? I note that there aren't a huge number of "is Nick gay?" threads...
Now think about how when a gay member of society wakes up, watches television over breakfast, catches the bus to work, hangs out at work and listens to his buddies talk about their weekends and what they did. How often is that person going to hear about heterosexual relationships? You want to talk about having things forced down your throat? We deal with it every day. Every hour except for when we sleep.
Ads constantly showing that having a girlfriend when you're a guy is the path to happiness. You're not a true adult until you have wife, kids and house. Listening to your friends talking about their girlfriends, what they did on the weekend. Meeting people for the first time and having to awkwardly work out if they will snub you when they find out your gay before you correct them about their question of "do you have a girlfriend/wife..."
And yet you feel that a civil single thread discussing how a certain character's behaviour may be construed as the writers hinting that he's gay is somehow forcing it down your throat.
Let's call a spade a spade. The real problem here is that some straight guys here behave like Nick does with their close friends and now they're freaking out that gay people are thinking they're secretly gay.
But here's the thing. Most straight guys would just laugh, nod and go "yeah, I can see how you might make that mistake. But that's not that case." Because here's the thing - some straight guys do behave that way. And yes, brotherly love can be mistaken for a gay relationship. But that's because in some cases that brotherly love *is* a gay relationship.
Kind of the whole reason we have this thread. Because it is totally legitimate to read it as brotherly love (and as I said up thread, my expectation is that it will be this) but it is also totally legitimate to read it the other way.
And that's a good thing. Because we shouldn't be assuming people are straight by default. But more importantly, it highlights why writers shouldn't write gay characters in a way that hides their sexuality unless it's central to the story. So, for example, if Nick turns out to be gay that could be central to his subplot with Luke. It could turn out to be a big revelation for Luke that snaps him out of his emotional ambiguity. Or it could be the twist that hammers home to Bonnie why nothing happened between her and Luke. And that revelation can happen with or without Nick present in the storyline.
It would matter to the story.
But otherwise - writers need to commit. They can't do a Walter and Matthew and pat themselves on the back for being inclusive. Because we get these drawn out arguments by people who don't want to face up to the fact that there are gay people who don't want to be quiet and invisible.
oh, so the new standard is "everyone is gay until proven otherwise?" How does that work? He is considered gay until he kisses a girl? That's… more just way too overboard. As things stand, he might die before he even gets a girlfriend these days.
I liked the world more before all these gay right activists started forcing these pro-gay things down everyone's throat. No better than these so called feminists these days. Everything was far more simple with the mindset of: "everyone is straight. Until they tell you they are not. Then they aren't." It was simple, everyone was fine with it and the best of all: you don't usually get facts thrown at you you REALLY don't give a damn about and thus don't NEED to know. So what if Nick was gay? Would it MATTER for the story? Hell no, it would just give every gay-rights activist a feeling of victory. (Notice how I only mentioned them, not actual gays themselves, since I bet ya: They THEMSELVES probably don't really give a damn either way)
Well, if you stay silent when you meet him he says something like : "I hate to break this to you kid but, I am an expert at talking to girls who don't want to talk to me", sounds pretty straight to me.
And there's nothing to indicate Luke is attracted to women either... I'm not sure what your point is. Nothing indicates Luke is NOT attracted to women, therefore he is attracted to women?

First, you need to write more succinctly. Secondly, I am not being closed minded. You are saying that these signs COULD be taken as a sign that Nick is gay. However every piece of evidence listed in this entire thread is based completely on opinion, opinion that I would find a tad bit more credible if this were real life. However this is a video game.
If Nick were gay Telltale would have clearly shown by now, Episode 3. While I played through every episode I, and as many others in this thread said, did not pick up the slightest hint Nick was gay. As I said before I don't care either way but the hints/ evidence being supported in this thread are laughable and if anything disturbing due to the generalizations of being a homosexual. The majority of people supporting this are claiming he is gay based off him missing Luke. . . I mean c'mon. Nick is not gay. I am not being close minded or not thinking outside the box. I mentioned it before but I am replying in this thread because it is annoying how much traction theories with no credibility get.

After subjecting myself to all the homophobic comments and feeling really depressed because of it i've got to say that god dam there are alot of douche bags here who should be ashamed of themselves. And people still wonder why me and alot of other gay gamers feel threatened by online gaming communities. On topic though, to be honest i've never thought about Nick being gay before now, i so want to believe he is but at this time there's not enough evidence to prove it. PS please think before you post, you might not know it but what your saying can sometimes be incredibly offensive.
I'm sorry that all of these things upset you. You have every reason to by bothered by it. It's really very bothersome.
It breeds hostility and the mods really need start cracking down on this kind of hate speech. Maybe that will teach people to start thinking about how much weight their words have.

No. Telltale had two "openly" gay characters and failed to do that properly - see the Walter/Matthew "they're just bros" debate that occurred post episode 2.
And yes. It is all just opinion. That's what speculation is. That's why the thread is called "Do you think Nick is Gay?" It's a request for opinions. I'm a bit uncertain what you seem to think you're doing here if you were expecting anything other than opinions.
You state that Nick is factually straight - but you have no evidence. You claim there are zero signs and yet even here you admit that "if this were real life" you would find those signs more credible. You're only argument to prove why they are factually zero signs is because it's a video game and the writers would have been more obvious?
Did you miss the multiple posts pointing out that the whole problem with how gay characters are represented in gaming is that writers tend to be too shy of being obvious and it leads to exactly these kinds of debates? Because it looks like you did. It looks like you're just ignoring everything and keep repeating the mantra "there are zero signs" as if somehow this time it will come true. And yet you yourself right above have just admitted that they are in fact signs and the only reason you have for saying they aren't is because you think the writers who failed to be obvious with one gay couple would be obvious with another gay character.

Care to point out these d-bags in specific examples? Painting with a broad might make you seem a bit disingenuous. I imagine if you you named them personally, they might be offended by your ad hominem attack even if it is well-grounded. Could you blame them for being just as offended by your disparaging charge? Just saying, with all due respect.

Yeah, I can understand why they would be upset by that; it's not often the walking dead introduces a protagonist and kills them off in the same episode (just Matt, Walt and Mark have had that treatment)
In truth, I think they just created Matthew and Walter before killing just so that they could have the little arc and explore into both Nick's ineptitude after Pete's death and the fact that everyone is a villain now considering good-guy Nick killing Matthew and great-guy Walter then determinately killing Nick.
I really think at least Walter should've been given the chance to survive as even a determinate character. It would of given both him the chance to forgive Nick if he was still alive and Nick an actual purpose to be in episode 3.
Fair enough, it's just that Walt and Matt died the same episode they were introduced. It doesn't look too good. I know a lot of LGBT+ fans who were upset by it.
I suddenly had the image of Bonnie and Nick fighting in knight armor and with swords while Luke watches blushing while wearing a princess dress. Someone draw that. Now.

Agreed. Matthew and Walter really only seemed to exist to give Nick (and Kenny) angst, which is honestly another reason I think it'd be a wise choice to make Nick gay. Like I said, a lot of LGBT+ fans felt slighted by Walter and Matthew's very sparse and subtle role. I know people who hate Nick solely because he killed the first gay character introduced to the game, like there are people who feel THAT offended by it (personally I think if you should be mad at anyone it's Telltale, not a fictional character, but hey, I won't invalidate their anger). Because of this I feel like having the guy who killed Matthew end up being gay as well could both somewhat make up for it as well as serve as some great tragic irony--if Nick is closeted, like the theory we've been tossing around, he could have talked to these guys and found a sense of self-acceptance. But he killed his own chance at that.

It's the ZA and no one gives a shit any more, whether he likes boys or girls doesn't matter.
What matters is surviving.
