  • Do admirable heroes get their ass kicked in front of everybody?

Maybe the next episode will help let them be more open to explain everything that happened before they escaped the 1st time. Especially since Kenny did them all a favor by bashing his face in and they got nothing left to fear from him anymore.

If Kenny was to die, I hope that his fate will at least be determinate by us.

  • You're spot on. It's so true. The cabin crew definitely should have had the most focus. I think that kenny coming back in season 2 was telltale playing the safe bet. They knew he had a strong fan following. The story and writing didn't have to match the quality of season 1 because they had that ace up their sleeve. They couldn't even justify how he survived they just brushed it under the rug and got on with it. The view being, players will scratch their heads at first then say fuck it, it doesn't even matter I'm just happy to have kenny back. There is no way they would have pulled that shit if Lilly was last seen in the circumstances kenny was in since she didn't have as much fans. Kenny is the last of season one's favourite characters so telltale will milk the fuck out of him.The kenny fans would even cheer and smile if kenny took a shit.

"They would deserve it for taking this long to get aboard the Kenny bandwagon ;)"

I still wouldn't be sad if kenny died. I'm desensitised after carly and lee's deaths. If anything I almost resent the fact that kenny outlived them. The only reason I care more about him than the cabin crew is because they haven't been fleshed out and I still don't feel like I really know them.

  • Agreed regarding the other characters calling him out on his crap. In season 1 there was only Lilly, and she disappeared pretty quickly. In season 2, Luke, Rebecca, Nick, Carlos, Sarita and Mike have all been like "what the fuck Kenny?" and you can even get Clementine to do the same.

I enjoyed his interactions with other characters in episode 3, but he did steal the spotlight a lot, just like he did in episode 2. I was actually kind of hoping he was dead when Carver beat him, because it would have been anticlimatic and shocking, rather than the hero pedestal he keeps being put on. Even him getting up after being hurt was everyone being like "oh god Kenny you are such a badass".

He gets too many dramatic moments and has to be involved in EVERYTHING, and it's simply annoying at this point.

  • Totally this. They didn't need to bring his character back in the first place, Kenny's role could have been done by just about anyone.

I thought his first "death" was a very fitting end to his character arc, with him risking himself to save the others. At this point they are placing him on a pedestal and making him a creators pet (as well as fan pandering).

If he doesn't die this season it's going to really annoy me.

This. I've been advocating Kenny's Season 2 death even before he was confirmed to be alive. He's got to die this Season, he's had his 15 minutes (or more precisely, 7 Episodes) of fame.

Considering that Episode 3 was about Carver and his community, I'm surprised that Kenny, the one with the least association with the cabin group storyline, was the one that had the spotlight and the honour to kill Carver.

If it were up to me I'd replace Kenny with Alvin, the one most deserving to seek vengeance against Carver. His transition to a bumbling and compassionate about-to-be dad (biological or no) into a more toughened up and no-nonsense dad, it would make for a better scene. Instead he's reduced to a red shirt character and had no role at all in Episode 3, even Nick with his small lines and low screen time had a small role to play out and gets to live to see another day.

Another thing I noticed as well is Carlos' death. He's considered the leader of the cabin group, and now that he's dead and Kenny is still around, I bet he's going to revert to his old ways back and butt-head with Luke over leadership once again. And now that Sarita is either bitten or had her arm hacked off in an attempt to save her, she'll inevitably die and...well, it'll be Season 1's Episode 3 and 4 all over again.

Luke, Nick, Carlos and Rebecca were all good candidates.

Luke's insistence on refusing to kill Carver seemed impossibly naive, in view of the fact he had tracked them for days in order to get them back once before and friends of his died in the process. Luke killing him might have served to give him a bit of dirt after so long seemingly like such a perfect nice guy. It also might have served as a sharp reminder of how important Carver being taken out really was.

Nick was a non-entity and might have benefitted from a badass moment for those with playthroughs where he lived, to convince people 'determinant' will not mean 'irrelevant.' Of course, this would mean someone else would have to do the job in those playthroughs where Nick bit it last episode.

Rebecca? Oh yes...Rebecca. Rebecca most of all. Pregnant women can still handle firearms, believe it or not. Rebecca had more reason to kill him than anyone in that room. His death at her hands would have been beautifully karmic after all the effort he made to get her back.

I agree that they focused to much on Kenny in this episode but it makes me think something might happen to him soon and so far I have not been able to get attached to the story line as well as i did in season 1 maybe because with lack of focus on the new characters except Luke and Rebecca.
I thought in Episode 3 they should have brought the guys from 400 days into the episode instead of it just being Bonnie, Tavia and a quick encounter with the rest of the 400 days group considering i got all 5 characters to join the group. Just need to wait and see what the next two episodes hold.
  • Of course you don't.

...I don't mind really, but I do see your point a little.

  • I think it has more to do with Kenny's personality. He always makes his voice heard and tries to lead things. Naturally if Kenny were to be with any kind of group, he would sort of force himself into the spotlight. I thought that this was made clear though out the series. Kenny wants his way or the highway. The only people that could calm him down were Kat and Duck. Now that they are gone, the only people that can calm him are Clem and Sarita. I believe it would be the same if Lilly was the person that came back. She would try to run things and make her voice heard. That kind of personality would naturally steal the spotlight away from the other characters. Honestly, if Clem didn't hang around Kenny so much and if Kenny wasn't so bold and animated in the past two episodes, it wouldn't feel right as he would be out of character. These final two episodes may result in Clem calming Kenny down or Clem distancing herself away from Kenny, especially after what Rebecca said about Kenny in episode 3.

I think Episode 4 is going to have even more Kenny, because of what happened to Sarita and how he is going to handle it.
Although some of the spotlight might go to Rebecca, she is obviously going to have her baby this episode.

Some of your points are valid, but I'm just holding out hope for a Kenny or Luke choice in Episode 5. I don't want to be stuck with Luke for another whole season. (I don't like people who hide in the bushes until it's safe, Luke can take a hike and stay on it for the rest of the season for all I care)
  • That's not very realistic though; especially given the time limit for these episodes. It's obvious some characters are just not as important as we thought they were going to be. It's unfortunate for certain fans (for me that'd be Nick) but understandable if you look at it from the writer's perspective.

I like Kenny, but everyone should be getting equal amount of spotlight instead of focusing it on one person.

  • That doesn't make sense. They had plenty of opportunity to speak up before they even met him. Not to mention characters like Rebecca, Nick and Carlos aren't the types to be intimidated into silence anyway.

  • Has there been confirmation that Luke is a deuteragonist? I know that's been a widespread belief of the fandom due to his placement in the credits but has any of the TT staff actually said that? I honestly can't remember if it was. He seems like the most important member of the cabin group but maybe we mistakenly overestimated his role.

For a deuteragonist, Luke barely played a role in Episode 3.

  • One of the things that made S1 so great (at least for me) was the characters. They felt like real people, sometimes I would forget that I'd just be playing a game- that is how much their characterization and varied reactions immersed me into the story. We got to know about their pasts and who they are personally- not just through a couple personality-defining actions.

Telltale introduced characters who had great potential this season. They didn't develop them like they did in S1, and I think the story suffered because of it. The deaths meant something in S1 because we got to know the character. When Katjaa (who wasn't even a huge character) died, it made me sad because this was the woman who told me about how silly the dogs at her work were, her concerns over Duck and Clem's well being, her worries about her husband's actions, how she met Kenny when he brought an octupus to her work. I saw her gradual transform from a calm, optimistic woman who was sure of herself and her family's safety into a broken shell of her former self. So many of S1 characters developed in some way and I felt like I had a good grasp on who they really were.

No new characters in S2 are given this development except Sarah and Nick, but even then I still don't know who they really are. Of all the characters introduced, Pete told the most about himself through his dialogue and actions. In the short time I knew him, I knew enough about his character to care about him. He died way too soon, and is the only death that had any effect on me so far in this season (besides Omid).

So we have this great cast of characters, but not much characterization to give the player a chance to become attached to them. I really liked Carlos and I wanted to know more about him then the 3 things we knew about him: 1. He is a doctor, 2. He has a daughter named Sarah who he is overprotective of, and 3. He used to belong to Carver's group. That's pretty much it. So his death really didn't phase me that much, which is disappointing. And as others have said, Carver had the potential to be an extremely interesting character but we only got to scratch the surface of his character (which turned out to be somewhat one-dimensional).

I like Kenny, but there are other factors that result in the cabin group getting sidelined. The game is only 90 minutes as opposed to S1's 2 hours, which definitely limits time to develop the other characters. Maybe Telltale thought players would be angry if Kenny was pushed aside over newer characters. Whatever it is, I think that this season has lost a lot of the emotion and depth that impacted people so much in S1.
  • Now is a bit too late for development seeing that most of the cabin group are dead now, but I do agree there should have been more dialogues with the cabin group. I got the feeling that Kenny had so much going in ep.3 is because he's going to snap, maybe TT wants to pull something what Lilly did in S1. However this time Kenny would get very aggressive over what has happened to his eye, killing Carver the way he did and Sarita dying perhaps. He might as well shot someone in blind rage for disagreeing with him like Jane, Mike or even Luke. Ok let the downvotes begin lol
