I just really relate to her on a personal level. No, not because of the drugs. I can relate to the fact that she tried to justify the actions of a bad man who had done good things in the past. I feel like I would have made a lot of the the same choices she did.
I love all the female characters in S2, actually. My favorite so far is Christa, but Sarita comes in a close second.
Can we talk about Rebecca though? I went from hating her in the first episode to admiring her by the time Episode 3 was over. She's kindhearted and benevolent, but she can be cold as ice towards people she dislikes. She watched Kenny bash Carver's face into a pudding and didn't even flinch. We need more characters like her.
Bonnie is one of my favorites too, I loved her character in the DLC. She reminds me of myself, not because of the drug addiction, but because she's impressionable and wants to help others. It's refreshing to see altruistic characters like her.
From S1, my favorite was Katjaa. She was a good offset to Kenny, and the Motor Inn group wouldn't have felt the same without her. Talking to her as Lee was comforting. Her death was so tragic, and while I saw it coming I never expected her to die the way she did. Her quote "I love our son more than life itself" suddenly had a lot more meaning. She wasn't kidding.
I would have to disagree with you there :) I liked James better, his story touched my heart in a special place that will never be forgotten. When i got the game it was too close to home and i didn't play it for a long time. Eventually i did and i fell in love with the game.
To the walking dead : I guess the best female character is Sarita. She seems the most sane, considering all that has happened.
In terms of video games overall? Cheryl Mason in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
The whole game is focused on telling her backstory, … moreeverything you can examine is a piece of her subconscious memory, and piecing everything together constructs a grim but realistic portrayal of a struggling woman with childhood demons. We only see her at the ending, but you've already discovered practically her entire life beforehand. She's not a super-powered, stoic Samus Aran, or a strong and independent Lara Croft. She's human with real emotional baggage. I could really see her existing in this world, only to be ignored as an unknown stranger on the bus. That's why I think she's the best adult female character in a video game.
EDIT: If we're discussing TWD characters? Definitely gonna have to say Shel.
I'll still always love Lilly. She was the first character I could relate to in such a strong way (prior to episode 3), and I could never turn on her. Sure she did a bad thing, a terrible thing, but I'll always still love her.
Sarita is pretty awesome, IMO. Clearly maternal but capable of throwing down with some undead when need be. Loved how she took down that one walker in the herd.
Sarita. She's just so kind and tries to keep everything together and she scolds Clementine (determinant) for calling Mike a jerk before meet… moreing him. Also she's really under appreciated which draws me to her. Honourable mentions: Carley, Rebecca, Shel, Katjaa and Christa

Somehow after episode 3 i like Bonnie. Despite the behaviour in EP2, she looks like a good person and she take care of Clem when Troy hit her. Gonna give a chance to "Miss Bonnie". :P
It's not a competition. I'm just saying James isn't a woman, and this whole thread is about "Best Adult Female". Yes, James in Silent Hill 2 is a great character in his own right, probably one of the most complex and polished character arcs in the medium; but Cheryl Mason in Shattered Memories isn't something that happens often. Just like the game itself, her character was overshadowed by the first three games of the series. Cheryl deserves some recognition as a strong female character in video games. You can't say she's stereotyped, generic, or too masculine like most female characters within most titles..

Troy: Shut up... Indian lady!
Kenny: HEY!
Sarita: It's okay, I AM Indian.
