  • My brother says that TWD is a piece of crap because it focuses more in the story rather in the action.
  • My brother (10) watches me play. But im going to play it first without him to make sure there aint... 'stuff' or "THANGS' in this episode.

  • This thread brings back so much memories, my little brother died at a young age (12). He played only up to S1Ep4. He was a nice kid, and he likes to share theories to me. Oh god... I will just sit in a corner.. ;-;
  • "Kids should be spending time doing their homework, not playing video games. ..."

So kids should be spending all of their free time doing homework, and never have a pause to have fun with a video game? Video games were invented for a reason and there are many of them for kids. I know how to handle them both. Of course no kid should spend the entire day playing video games.

  • That's the point entirely. Clementine is exposed to all kinds of stuff that she shouldn't have to deal with, because of an apocalypse. It's a horrible thing. And here you are, exposing real life kids to the same sorts of (virtual) horrors, and thinking it's OK.

And how do you know the kids are "OK" and can "handle it"? Their brains aren't finished growing yet. The damage done from having absolutely zero content restrictions may not show up immediately.

If gratuitous violence is OK for an 11-year old, where do you draw the line with sexuality?

  • Well, I let my cousin (hes 8) play it, but he was nothing but obnoxious and silly :/

  • My dad has played it before and he loves it XD

  • At players who haven't gone through puberty and aren't at the age of consent. That's a completely different playing field and you know it. Next up: Nazism.

A kid's brain doesn't have to finish growing or grow up enough to look at something in a virtual(because that's the key word here) setting, and think "eww, that's bad," or "I totally wouldn't do this in real life".

The brain is not "hurt" when it views something it's not mature enough to process, it is either confused, scared or both, and simply removing the stimulus causing it and being there to comfort said brain and explain that they can just forget it is enough. Being able to judge correctly when a specific child will be more scared or put off by something than motivated to think or play(which includes thinking by default) is every parent or guardian's responsibility, and just something siblings learn and recognize simply from being in close proximity, in any game from E-thru-M, and The Walking Dead, despite how gray or how far it might go in the themes it presents, it won't ever go higher, that is to cross over from M to AO, and I wouldn't say this game's content constraints in particular are "absolutely zero". And the opposite of "immediately" in regards to reactions and reflections on an experience with a game, movie, or any medium of entertainment does not equate to over a year, so there will be plenty of time to make sure the late bloomers of these delayed reactions understand that shooting people in Call of Duty is bad and that the choices presented in The Walking Dead aren't choices they should have to make because of how gray they are.

It's not your personal responsibility or business to force your sole judgment on whether someone's kid or sibling whom they are well acquainted with and has played The Walking Dead is mature enough to view it. That is for HarjKS and gimmeseason2 to decide for their respective kids and/or siblings.

  • Yeah, his reaction time afraid is so bad. I tried making him play the demo for Episode 1 and he was too busy talking to me about decisions or what was going on he didn't pay attention and missed dialogue options and quick-time events. With me I can concentrate on talking to him and playing so we normally both talk quickly and try to agree on what to say/do.

I mostly let him decide though, but on more complex situations we both discuss it. It's really fun actually :)

  • One of those "very few" reporting for duty, and I take offence in your ignorance. I'm 14 but I'm more mature than many adults I've met. Age doesn't matter for shit, it's maturity. And most people I know are mature enough Mr. Overprotective Parent.

  • I don't even bother asking my sister. It's not laugh she'd laugh. Ok, she might laugh. But she doesn't play videogames, no matter how story-driven.

  • Punch him in the face for me

  • The problem is that many of these kids encouraging/permitting the 11-year olds to play the game are in the 14-16 age range, and are absolutely unqualified to make those judgements. They most certainly do not have the qualifications or maturity needed to decide if a very young child should be playing the game. They most likely shouldn't even be playing the game themselves.

As far as the categories go, this game has high levels of violence and language. Not maximum levels, but quite high. If it had sexual content on a par with the other categories, that would likely be full frontal nudity and simulated (softcore) sex acts. I still wonder if the 14-year old "older" siblings think it's fine for their 11-year olds to watch that stuff. And there's no right answer. If they think it's OK, they're idiots. If they think it's not OK, then they're that ridiculous kind of confused American that thinks that splattered brains are fine but boobs are bad.

  • With all respect, how do you know you're one of the "very few"? Self-determination? Ask every single teenager who plays this game, and they'll tell you they're mature enough to play. Are they ALL correct? No, they aren't. Very many just THINK they are. How do you know you aren't one of those?

  • I do the same thing with my little brother and sister. Though my little brother plays as nice Lee/Clem, my little sister plays mean Lee and sassy Clem

  • Your brother is a kind man :)

I am 12 in real life and I had no problem with all the violence in the game. TWD is my favourite game for sure. At the end of Season One I cried like I never cried before. I could barely sleep at night after I finished the game ;_; Too bad I do not have adult sibilings who played this game. Sometimes I think about making my older sister`s boyfriend or my father play it.

  • yea I convinced my 11 year old brother to play it I was expecting him to hate it but he loved it and he is one of those people that only play cod and fifa

  • because I understand it perfectly and catch on to things like the situation between Jane and Troy faster than lots of adults. I haven't met a single kid my age that didn't seem mature enough, so this "very few" is more like the majority-of 14 year-olds at least.

Yeah bred bags, you know those plastic bags, they put bread in. I had to walk to school with them on my feet to keep my shoes dry. Back in my day, all we had was Zelda, and Mario brothers. We didn't have no PlayStation four, we had to use our imaginations to make those games good. After school, i wasn't allowed to play video games, i had to do my homework, then go outside and "play." All i wanted to do at that time in my life was play Nintendo.

    bread bags?

  • Video games are a waste of time.

Do something constructive, but also enjoyable. I have tons of hobbies, i collect rare plants and grow them. Video games aren't constructive, i'm sorry they aren't. Do something that will enrich your life, It is ok to play video games once in a while but don't let them rule your life.

My brother who's 11 hasn't played yet, but he watched me play through:

    • All of 'All That Remains'
    • Some of 'A House Divided'
    • Some of 'In Harm's Way'

God, our reactions when Omid died were priceless. We sat their with open mouths for about another 15 minutes into the episode, saying nothing.

Although, I'm not exactly much older, or 'old' myself. I'm 14.

  • video games...are...life...video games...are...religion...video games...are...POWER!!! I'm kidding but they will always be my favorite passtime...always.
