The "Z" word
Ok so a LOT of people always say that they never say the word zombie in TWD, however I just recently started to get into the comics and they say zombies nearly all the damn time? Its the "W" word I never hear them say. So what gives people?

Dafuq is a zombie?
[removed]
According to Molly they are "Geeks"
Everyone has a way of naming them. Lee's group calls them walkers. Molly calls them geeks. The Cabin Group calls them lurkers and Ben calls them Those-things-that-I-wish-would-just-disapear.
People say that because they never use that term in tv show and it's most popular TWD medium. In comics, however, they use word "zombie".
Lee says it once in ep 1, the term eventually phases itself out in all the different versions
God damn Ziggas..
Ok, so what ive gathered is those people pretended to know more about the walking dead than they let on.
Molly and Glenn have called them geeks. Comics call them roamers and lurkers. Abrahams group calls them zombies. Governor calls them biters. Rick and Lees group calls them walkers. Maggie calls them mom (honest trailers reference) And cabin group calls them lurkers despite that they are not lurking. Did I miss any nick names for the walkers? I think I got all of them.
Wow season 2 group is dangerous.
Luke: "LURKERS!"
Me: "Okay so they're just lying down quit yell... OWWW!"
Whats up my zigga.
I don't know how far into the comics you are but they do use the word walkers a few times in the later issues but not that often.
I just got past the hunters ark. I always thought Walkers was the go to term before I got into the comics.
I understood that in Kirkmans version there was no such thing as "zombies" in the culture. That's why no one knows to destroy the brain, or anything about zombies.
Yeah that's what I heard too, so it really surprised me when Abrahams group started calling them zombies. Its not the first time a medium of his has used the word but they repeatedly use it.
Pretty sure they hardly call them zombies in the comics as well, where are you getting this from?
While they may refer to it from time to time, Kirkman's TWD Universe was stated to be an universe where Romero's zombie flicks were never created and zombies aren't the pop culture craze they are right now, hence everyone's different terms for them (Rick's group calling them walkers, Woodbury calling them biters, etc)
I don't remember exactly the interview I saw, I dont think it was Kirkman himself, just someone who was explaining Kirkmans version. There was no Romero or zombie movies so everything was just new and unknown to the TV show's characters which added to the suspence. But I too have heard the term zombie used which kinda confused me then. But, meh it's not so critical.
(no offense to black people)
Of course.. Of course.
According to history, a "zombie" is a corpse said to be revived by witchcraft, especially in certain African and Caribbean religions.
These monsters aren't created from witchcraft. It's a disease. Therefore, "zombie" isn't the right term.
I've read the comics, I can only remember them calling them "zombies" once and it was a very early issue in Volume 1 I believe, I can't remember and allegedly Robert Kirkman said it was a mistake.
Actually lee says it twice "those keys are on that zombie outside" and "well you've got your family to look out for, and I get the feeling Doug isn't too good around zombies."
There is also the time in Crawford with the doctor walker where the prompt says "stomp zombie"
It wasn't offensive, till you said no offense to black people. Just saiyan
no debate needed. keep it light
No offense to saiyans.
When Abrahams group is introduced they call they call them zombies at least 4 or 5 times. Rick then explains why they use the terms Roamers for the walking ones and Lurkers for the ones lying around. Which Eugene writes down in his handy dandy notebook.
Are you sure you're not getting that from Dead Island? I always thought the definition for a zombie was like a person who's mind is literally gone. Like a person who's taken too many drugs and is basically a husk or a vegetable. However I'm not 100% sure, you may be right.
I know necromancy is the act of reviving the dead though.... Forgot where I was going with that lol
WHAT DID YOU SAY!?!
I've never played Dead Island, so I have no idea.
The term zombie has been around for a very, very long time. It's probably through some form of necromancy, or magic spell. Don't take my word on it, I'm not an expert. I just read it somewhere, and I thought I should share it.
Well words have to come from somewhere so who knows. I think im getting my definition, now that I think about it more, from when I hear one of my friends that are sleepy say "I feel like a zombie."
I'm thinking you might be right on the words origins.
the word "Zombie" indeed comes from African and Caribbean culture. Zombies are mostly associated with Voodoo and are basically human beings controlled by black magic. It's actually a potent drug that puts the victim in a state of hypnosis, which then can only obey to its master.
That's what I was thinking.
Holy crap hypnosis is real? I thought that was just magician mumbo jumbo.
This changes everything.
I said VOODOO...if that isn't magician mumbo jumbo then I don't know what is...funny thing, the so called "Miami Zombie" was once thought to have been caused by voodoo practices...make of that whatever you want...llol
Also it's more like some kind of trance, akin to hypnosis.
I was talking about the potent drug. I honestly don't know what I think about voodoo. Same with my feelings on trances and hypnosis. I always thought they were putting on an act, never really know until I fall victim to it. But im open minded and have come to realize over the years that everything comes from something. We have some dangerous plants out there.
The Miami zombie was just a psycho who seen way too many zombie movies and took some hallucigens (don't know the right way to spell that word.) in my opinion.
the man took bathsalts, a drug that makes people act like complete lunatics. I don't completely believe in the occult but I can't deny some of the astonishing results. Hypnosis is in fact quite real, it's all about using it wisely though. My gripe with it is that you NEED to deprogram the one who has been under the influence of hypnosis after a séance. Sadly, some illusionists( or whatever their names are...) never deprogram them so the mind still lives under the influence of hypnosis and can suffer from it.
Damn I need to look up some books on hypnosis. Not going to use it or anything, I just kind of figured hypnosis was something supernatural.
So when magicians/hypnotist/illusionist do things like everytime you hear the word "what" you will clap your hands, is that real? I love the unknown. Lately what I thought was real and fake have been switching roles a lot. But it would be a drug/plant not a pendulum right?
Sorry for wording that weirdly lol
haha it's fine :P anyway it's not a drug, it's actually a psychologic aspects that is being exploited to put the victim in a almost dormant state. actually it's pretty much a trance and the victim becomes a puppet to the master. There's no drugs being used and no supernatural magic or whatever. It's all in the mind, believe it or not.
In the comics only Glenn calls them "zombies" once, they tend to use "roamers" and "biters" a lot.
I said it before but Abrahams group says it a LOT when they are introduced.
