Is there a crackdown?
I know we just got gifs, links, and pictures back - a lot sooner than I expected and I would like to thank Telltale and the moderators for their work, I was skeptical, but you proved me wrong, thank you.
But I feel like it has been accompanied by a crackdown, probably because of the worry about the rammifications. But people (please don't name) have been banned who, though maybe sarcastic or even dickish at times, have been been around a while and clearly aren't trolls?
Also, I've seen posts where the poster is listed as 'banned,' which I never saw before - does that mean the band isn't permanent or???

It's permanent,I think. But yeah, some cool guys around the forum were banned for no reason and I wish they weren't
Some bans arent permanent.
EpicMustacheGuy
Is there any way to tell which are and which aren't? Or is that just for the person in question?
Seriously now. It's sad he's gone, and I can't believe it, either. But don't discuss or name banned members. Don't wanna be a dick or something, just so you have been warned (if you didn't know yet)
He will be missed greatly.
The recent forum update now displays when users are banned - for both temporary and permanent bans - and removes their avatar for the duration of the ban.
As for the "crackdown" - there isn't anything bad going on. We've recently received massively improved moderation tools behind the scenes, so now we can be better at catching activity against forum guidelines.
Would it be infeasible to maybe leave a message on a person's bio or something, indicating why they've been banned and for how long? It just seems like it would put to rest a lot of the questions that come up whenever something like that happens.
Absolutely not, DomeWing. We don't announce or discuss the reasons for banned people.
That has many reasons, one of them being that the banned person usually gets very, very irate when we do that.
We are VERY slowly catching up with all the crap that has happened these last nine months. That includes finally finding out about a lot of shenannigans which happened behind our backs. That results in bans, certainly. Especially for those people who have snuck back into the forum with alternative profiles far too many times.
We have banned trolls before, but now there are "banned" badges so you can actually see that without looking at someone's profile. Mods have expressly asked for such a badge. The sudden presence of these badges is, I guess, the central reason why some people get the impression of a "crackdown".
We haven't been able to see you guys' flags for far too long now. We're catching far more trolls in the act, those who formerly ran free. We're on those cases pretty immediately. When we look at profiles of people you reported and see, at a glance, 15 posts of hideous insults against fellow community members, there isn't actually a decision to make on our side. These people have no place here.
As much as possible, anyway, we're trying to hand out temporary bans. This supposedly is just a short sharp shock that tells the member: "Not this way".
So, yeah, there's a crackdown, at least a little bit.
There hasn't been any standard of respectful conversation on this forum for a while now. People have left this forum because they hated how people treated each other. And mods could do NOTHING against that. Now we can, and I hope those tools will even improve in the near future. We will establish a much needed standard of treating each other fairly again. You will feel that this is a moderated forum again.
Yeah, that also means that you'll occasionally notice a ban.
We already have the ability to send a ban notification explaining why people are banned.
For obvious reasons, they aren't able to post why they are banned to explain to other people.
However, some people (evidently) don't check their feed (or they miss the notification).
I suppose it's a bit of a catch-22 then. People seem to get very irate when they find out that their friend has been banned for unclear reasons. I guess now that notifications are back, people can just edit their own bios when they get banned to let others know why if they so choose. That's fine to do, right?
The concept of temporary bans really is something that mods should make clear by example. It doesn't seem to be understood.
He'll be back.
Soon.
And I'm not using the Telltale variant of "soon" here.
Don't forget that the PM system also wasn't working, which meant that moderators could not catch flagged posts or PMs for several months.
...Yeah, our hands were tied for an extended time so to speak.
Idek why guys cry over banned users. It was their fault for breaking the rules, and from what i've seen it's pretty hard to get banned. If he/she really liked you, they would've added you somewhere else. But seriously, shut up.
Flagged system came back no user is above the rules no matter how much you like them. I think it's a good thing I have noticed more messing then actual discussion recently and even users I liked which got banned do I think they could of said something over the line yes. It also sends out a clear message by the Mods they are back in business and the rules should be taken seriously.
Something like that, perhaps.
He will still be missed for the time being.
Yes, bring the hammer down upon the unworthy.
lol
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?
