Should TellTale replace "..." with another dialogue option?

Simply waiting out the timer does the exact same thing as picking "..." so why not get rid of it and another interesting dialigue choice in its place?

  • I think they put it there because some people don't want to wait for the timer to run out to choose silence.

  • You're right! It should be replaced with [flip off] HAHAHA!

I've heard that they put it there so the players who don't like any of given options can choose "..." (nothing).

Impatience may have played a role in this, but I think my version is correct (because I think it was stated in "Making of...").

Remember AMC (or GCC or Loews or whatever theatre chain it is this time...) Silence is Golden.

  • Oh, and did I mention that I really like your avatar?

(?) Silence is a valid option.

Seriously I mean silence makes sense to me, if you don't want to answer someone or talk.

  • Clementine finding Kenny

    Kenny: Clementine?!
    Clem: [flip off]

*it was a joke. I love Kenny :D

I've always seen "..." as the facial expression button and letting time expire as true silence. Letting time run out shows indecision, but choosing "..." before the dialogue can finish seems more like cutting the conversation short by glaring or looking confused/concerned.

So to answer your question, no I don't think it should be replaced, unless they change in to [facial expression] or something else non-verbal.

    Yes, like this:

Kenny: Clementine, do you have any plan to escape this?
    Clementine: [Hug]

    Or this:

Rebecca: I know I can die having this baby.
    Clementine: [Hug]

    Or this:

Alvin: Take care of my girls.
    Clementine: [Hug]

Confirmed Clementine Machine That Gives Hugs For Episode 4.

  • What's with the downvotes? As far as I can tell, the OP isn't saying Telltale should strip out silent options; they're saying that the player would simply have to wait out the conversation in order to remain silent instead of selecting a '...' option.

As silence in TWAU and TWD works at the moment, doing it that way wouldn't actually take away anything. Nearly every time you choose silence you have to listen to the rest of the NPCs' dialogue anyway before it cuts to Bigby/Lee/Clementine not saying anything.

By having silence implemented this way, the player could potentially have five different options for conversation/choices (four dialogue options, with a fifth option to let the timer run out and not say/do anything). It's a net gain if anything, I'm all for the idea.

  • What's the deal with these guys?

  • I think Lingvort's referencing Kenny (there must be a reason Kenny's voice popped into my head whilst reading that post, or I could be going insane). On another note, I completely missed the SilenceIsAnOption thing. What happened to the mute chap? They didn't ban him did they? Silence is supposed to be a valid option!

    Carver: I'm a psychopath.

We choose the Hug option and Clementine says:

Clementine: Sorry, but I don't give hugs to insane people that walk (or drive) 5 days just to get a revenge.

Kenny: Go on, you don't need to see this. Clementine: (hug)

  • No. I think silence is always an option and it should stay that way. Maby if they add more options, that'd be interesting!

  • Kenny: "What's the deal with these guys, Clem?"

Clem: "They do this all the time, just try to ignore them."
