[???] Stop. Don't take another step.

A man carrying a Winchester rifle stepped up to Joyce, Clive and Boyd. They were scared, but did not show it on the outside. They'd been planning approaching the gate for a few hours, and decided to go unarmed (Not that they had any REAL weapons anyways).

[Rifleman] Damn. No offense, I got mad respect for the elderly, but I'm surprised you oldies lived this long.

Clive frowned.

[Rifleman] Hey, Clark, check out these folks.

A tall, bald man stepped out of the gate, which was guarded by 2 other rifle-wielding people. He had on a green vest, with a white fleece undershirt. In his hand was a Beretta 92FS Inox, a common handgun around Savannah.

[Clark] Well then. Hey, Lowell, lay off these people, 'aight? They's to old to hurt no-one.

[Joyce] What's that supposed to mean?! We're capable of...just...we can do whatever you can do!

[Clark] I reckon' that ain't entirely true, miss...

[Joyce] Like I'll tell YOU my name.

The rifleman from before, revealed to be Lowell, stepped forward and raised his gun. He pointed it at Joyce. Clark beckoned his hand down, however, and Lowell lowered the gun.

[Clark] Listen, miss, I'm sorry if I came of as a jackass, I just want to be safe. Listen, why don't you folks let me show you around. You'll like it here.

Discussion went on for a while, but eventually, they decided that Clive would tour the market, but Boyd and Joyce would wait until Clive said it was safe. So Clive went on with Clark.

[Clark] So you've met Lowell already, the aggressive one. That's Vera and Tisha, guarding the gate there. We fashioned the gate out of some barbed wire we found at the scrapyard about a mile from here. We have 2 working cars, with gasoline. Miracle, ain't it!

[Clive] I guess so.

Clark led him inside. Clive was amazed how big it was, full of shelves and register counters.

[Clark] Now, as expected, mister...uh...

[Clive] I'm Clive. That's Joyce and Boyd outside.

[Clark] Right, right. As expected, Clive, we weren't the first people to find this place. It's done been looted, but I guess them darn scavengers didn't know about the back storeroom. We got enough food to last us a couple more weeks.

[Clive] And when you run out?

Clark avoided answering the question, and led him on to a small tent area made using two shelves, a shopping cart, and a tarp.

[Clark] This here's the medical center. That's Ted there. He's a doctor.

Clark pointed to a man, not very tall, in a red shirt. He had a small, ginger beard. He waved to Clive.

Meanwhile, outside, Joyce and Boyd were sitting on a bench, watching the road for walkers.

[Boyd] That girl that Vernon mentioned, Molly...I think I saw her on the way here.

[Joyce] What?

[Boyd] While we were walking here. Some athletic girl was jumping around everywhere, trying to get a good look at the guards everywhere. She met Vern's description. Maybe it isn't as safe as it seems. She seemed like a smart girl, the way she watched her back.

[Joyce] What are you saying, Boyd?

[Boyd] I'm just saying, we should watch ourselves. We stick together, no matter what.

Clive came outside and sat next to Boyd and Joyce.

[Clive] It seems...relatively safe. They have food, though not enough to last us more than a few weeks, and the windows, doors, and all that shit are sealed up pretty well. I don't think a walker could get in here easy.

Boyd explained the Molly situation.

[Clive] Listen, Boyd, I respect you, but honestly, this place is a hell of a lot safer than being right under Crawford's noses. Molly can think what she wants, but I could care less about her. This is about us. This is about OUR survival. Not her's, not Clark's, not Vera's or Tisha's or Lowell's. OURS, and if this place is safe, we stay here. If the people AREN'T safe...

...we take it from them.

The next morning

[Ted] Rise and shine, oldies.

[Boyd] I really wish you'd stop calling us that.

[Ted] He he...sorry, it's just easier to call you out as a group, instead of as individuals. Listen, I heard from Clive that, Joyce, you're sick?

[Joyce] A little bit. We got a lot of medicine from Crawford, but I'm still not 100%

Ted's eyes perked up. His face went pale.

[Ted] You've...been to Crawford...please....tell me...what is it like there? Did...did they make it? My girlfriend, Janice, went there. I couldn't stand their rules so....

He looked down at the floor

I left her...I abandoned her, without letting her know...Is Crawford alive, still?

[Clive] Jesus, Ted, I'm...I'm sorry. Crawford is...

Without saying any more, Ted ran off, not allowing the trio to see him cry.

[Joyce] Poor guy...at least he made it. He was smart to leave.

[Boyd] Yeah...where do you think he's going?

[Clive] Beats me. Off to mourn, I know that much.

Everyone (except Ted) sat down for breakfast at the cashier's counters.

[Clive] You know, I was a cashier before all this started.

Everyone shared laughs and stories, and it was as if everything were back to normal.

[???] Clark...

The voice came from the intercom.

[Clark] T...TED? How the hell did you get the intercom working? Where are you?

[Ted over intercom] I'm sorry...I'm sorry...

[Clark] Sorry for what? Seriously, Ted, Where are you!?

[Ted over intercom] I killed her...I'm sorry...I don't deserve any help from you...

Clark was frantic trying to decipher what he was saying, and trying to locate him.

[Clark] TED! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU? WHAT ARE YOU-

BANG

Everything went silent.

[Clark] T..Ted? TED? Talk to me, man. Where...

Clark stumbled upon Aisle 21-C. Ted sat there, sobbing frantically. He had used the phone to speak over the intercom, as it wasn't hooked up to use a phone tower, but rather the store itself. He had attempted suicide, but turned the gun away at the last moment.

[Ted, mumbling] I'm a fucking disgrace, Clark, I can't do it...I miss her, so much...

Clark leaned down to comfort him.

[Clark] It's Janice, isn't it?

Ted looked at him with teary eyes. At this point, Vera, Lowell, and Tisha were there as well.

[Clark] It's going to be okay. You, uh...want some alone time?

Ted nodded, and continued sobbing.

The rest of the group gathered out in the parking lot.

[Clark] Poor kid...he's only 16, you know. I wish things would've worked out for him.

[Boyd] Were you at Crawford, too, Clark?

[Clark] No, actually I---

A gunshot is heard as a bullet tears directly through Clark's skull, sending him plummeting to the ground. His blood coats Boyd, who was standing in front of him

Lowell appears from where his corpse fell, holding a Glock 17 handgun, now tinted with Clark's blood.

[Lowell] Stupid old fucks. Don't you know not to trust strangers?
