I Don't Understand The Season 2 Episode 3 Hate
I honestly loved this episode, and albeit having a lot of downtime, discussion and butchering of some community favourite characters I found this episode a thrill ride of "Oh shit" stomach drop moments, gut wrenching choices and one of the mind-blowingly fucking bat-shit insane climaxes any of the episodes so far.
This episode literally blew my mind when it came to breathaking moments. What about that moment where Alvin was shot and you thought he was dead but instead was like "NOOOOOPE" and shot a fucking goon, right after one of the saddest moments in the episode? What about the horror of seeing the zombie biting Sarita's hand, and the feeling of "I've gotta fucking do this" before you hack her hand off; not to mention right after shit goes to shit and Carlos gets shot in the jugular and Sarah "cease's" to function? What about the sick pleasure of witnessing Carver's beating, or knowing , after leaving, the kind of fate he will have? What when Carver decides Sarah needs punishment? Or about when Kenny's orbital is crushed, or when you see Luke has made it?
Jesus H. Christ people, this episode was great for pay-offs, and though at some points it may have felt a bit disjointed, and may not have been the best one so far, but in my opinion it is not the mess it is painted to be on the forums. Plus, I think the down-time during this episode was a welcome change, and pacing is very necessary in telling every story. But that's only my opinion.

The thing is, the story WAS good. The story is always good in a Telltale episode. But we saw little to no consequence of our actions in previous episodes, so there's not much to talk about, since basically we all got the same episode. And there's the fact that the only glimpses we saw of our beloved 400 Days characters were alienated people that had one or two lines.
There's no doubt there were some cool moments. I mean I DID have fun, but the general consensus is that it could've been more.
EDIT: It's kind of like getting a new used car, and overtime you notice paint chips and slightly bent metal. The car runs the same, but you can't get over the flaws.
I've never really understood the hate either cause I really enjoyed the episode for the same reasons you listed
Episode 3 is what really brought me back into TWD and gave me the "feels" back
Yeah, I think this episode was cool. There are only two things I didn't like - Carver's awful development and 400 Days characters' awful development. Everything else is perfect.
I'll do my best to list down why most players don't seem to like S2 Episode 3 as much as the other episodes:
Bear in mind these flaws Episode 3 may have doesn't make it a terrible episode, there are several memorable moments that makes Episode 3 good, but chances are most players find that Episode 3 doesn't hold up to the quality of the other episodes.
All of those points are good except for one. Other than Clementine Kenny is the only other useful character. He made a tried to make a plan, took the blame for stealing the radio potentially saving Clementines life, and he killed Carver can't trouble you anymore. Not being a Kenny fanboy just looking at the facts.
Carver's Death was the biggest surprise for me.
I agree with you, except I wouldn't call Carver 'well-intentioned,' even in episode two. There was a lot of ambiguity if he was simply a tyrant or if he was a machiavel, but yeah, his characterization in episode 3 was horrible.
I would like to add - treatment of Nick was pretty crappy (my Alvin was dead, but even so, Nick might as well ahve been dead.)
Also, in all fairness, when episode 3 rolls around Clementine is the only competent member of the group. (that's a half-joke)
Thank you!
Theres like 999 hate threads and i find 996 of them really nitpicky. Im glad im not the only one who loved episode 3.
The episode was short and felt rushed also your choices barely had an effect in other words the Episode had a Big FUCK YOU from Trolltale Games.
I didn't hate it. Mostly.
But was it any shorter than 'A House Divided' most users loved that episode
I felt more rushed in episode 2, i had to follow this group i didnt like, had to get them across a bridge and etc.
In episode 3 at least I WANTED to leave.
The Fuck? So the Episode is good because it allowed you to escape?
That's the thing though. Telltale apparently couldn't show us how the others are useful or competent. They were content to let us ride the Kenny circlejerk for the entire damn time.
The episode was good because the entire episode had one very forward goal: Escaping.
Uhhhhh.... You didn't play Season 1 did you? The whole point of this series is for you to create your own story in Episode 3 you dont get to make any decision whatever you do still leads to the same ending. And its not only Episode 3 but the whole Season 2 that feels half assed 90 minute or less episodes, Characters that will kiss your ass after you told them to fuck off. This season doesnt improve from season 1 instead its feeling like they did it because it was easy money.
I didn't like it because of how bad the characters were here. None felt important but Kenny who seemed to be the only character in this ep.
I'll go dig up a post from an earlier thread to describe my feelings.
Carver becomes a generic sadistic crazy antagonist from the interesting, darker, smart and threatening character from Ep 2.
Troy becomes a generic crazy loyal talkative lackie from the silent henchman in ep 2.
Tavia becomes a bitch from the nice woman she was in 400 days.
Vince became a mindless henchman from the leader and untrusting person he was in 400 days.
Russel hated the type of people Carver was and ran away from them just to get roped into and be okay with Carver.
Nick & Alvin had maybe 8 lines.
Sarita hasn't done anything but be sad for Kenny after he got beat and be there for Kenny to go crazy when he finds out what happens to her in ep 4.
Rebecca barely reacts over Alvin's death.
Luke doesn't react over Nick's death.
Reggie existed solely to show how bad Carver is.
Oh come on now. Every part of Season 1 was not just open ended choices, they all led to the same point, you just got there a little differently. Season 2 is doing the same thing. I think part of what people are missing is the awesome NEW feeling that came with Season 1, and how different it was in its story telling. Granted, that set very high expectations for this sequel, and MANY people are enjoying it. If you feel it's so half assed and not improved then stop playing. You get a good amount of content for the price paid, arguably more than many $50 games give you. You can never please everyone.
While I like Episode 3 less now than when it first came out (AHD has retaken its place as my favorite Season 2 Episode) I still like it quite a bit.
The episode was good ,but could have been better, though i have not seen too much people hating outside the forums for some reason forums seem to be more critical with their franchise for example: in the MGS forum ,most of the users hate MGS 3 and 4 wich are some of the favorites outside the forums , and in GTA forums there is a little group of people that hate GTA:San Andreas wich as you may know is one of the most ebloved games in the past years.
i loved the episode it just felt rushed.
Shhhh... You got no idea what you are talking about if you're gonna tell me to stop playing and throw away the money i paid you must be out of your fucking mind. If Microsoft gave me my money back then sure why not but that aint gonna happen and second these $50 games you speak of come with something called MULTIPLAYER or Side Quests so it adds to the value. A lot of people are enjoying it? then all the threads that i have seen saying that we are getting less for our money must be my imagination please dont talk stupid shit goddamn.
I personally don't hate it but i can say i am a bit disappointed with ep.3. The things that bothered me the most was Reggie and the 400 days survivors. As other people before me said, i too feel that Reggie was unneeded. He seemed to only be there to justify killing Carver. Yes, Carver was evil and killed Walter, Alvin(determinant) but i guess you can say that his actions had a reasoning behind them i.e killing Walter for payback for Kenny killing one of his men. But then he goes and kills Reggie for no reason. He said to Clem that Reggie was weak but Troy fucked up the door and he didn't kill him. He turns from a calculating villain to just a psychopath.
As for the 400 days, i think a lot of people on the forum were disappoined because Telltale told us to go play 400 days and how playing 400 days will have an impact on the story and such, And then you play the episode and the characters just appear say 1-2 lines then its goodbye. They make no difference at all to the story. Maybe they wil play a bigger role in ep.4 and ep.5 i hope so at least.
Episode 3 is not a bad episode but It had so much potentialI though it fell short. I guess, I will still play ep.4 but i kinda lost that anxiousness to have the next episode asap and read news about it.
It was enjoyable enough, but lacking in some crucial areas. I hate to beat a dead horse, but so many of this episode's problems could've been improved upon with one thing: a hub. It would've helped the pacing issue, it would've helped the length issue, it would've immersed us deeper into Carver's world, it would've given some time and development to characters that needed it, we could've had conversations with the 400 Days characters that were there, and maybe how we interacted with certain people could've affected their behavior in the plan and our escape. But, alas, still. no. hubs.
I find that people who are upset tend to make a lot more noise than the content ones.
No matter what happens people are gonna find a reason to bitch.
episode 3 had great story
I didn't like the fact we didn't see more of 400 days cast.
I didn't like the fact that clementine had to everything, I get that she brave enough just I don't think realistic she had to everything for the group.
I am sick of the foreshadowing, the first time I talked to Rebecca she mention she haden't told alvin she loved him and one of the responses was you will. then she says I hope so......oh come on yes foreshadowing makes it more tragic, but it's better when you don't see it coming.
LMFAO
It had so much potential, but mostly wasted; seriously, you are now living in someone's camp, someone who is supposed to be the devil, but yet charismatic. The 400 days characters would be there. It's a camp, how many people would be there ? How many people could you interact with ? Then... BOOM, trailer ! You see Tavia, and you start regretting your past choices. But no (in my opinion).
But seriously, this episode was really great, I loved it, but it had way much more potential.
Episode 3 was just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING.
Do you know whats funny about your response to me?
You say that "The whole point of this series is for you to create your own story in Episode 3 you dont get to make any decision whatever you do still leads to the same ending." Yet in 'Long Road Ahead' NO MATTER what you do, the ending is the still them on the train seeing Savannah. You sound like you don't know what you're talking about.
You are correct but compared to Episode 3 Season 1 and Season 2 Episode 3 which one had a better story? S1E3 Kenny loses his wife and son, you discover ben is the reason that all of that happened, you meet new characters(Omid, Christa and Chuck), you discover that Clem has been talking to the stranger, lilly kills doug or carley and You teach Clem survival skills. Now tell me what do you do in Ep.3 in S2 that is so epic and added to the story? My bad if im coming off as a bit of an asshole.
Sure, novelty is a factor, but that illusion of choice was arguably presented better back in S1. The characters helped that, for their various reactions to you made the experience feel different, even if it did not actually vary that much in the end. It was not perfect, but this feels like a step back, not an evolution of that system.
Well, I see no reason for the people happy with the current product to make noise, except maybe to offer enthusiastic praise for the game or threads complaining about people who complain.
Thats not a nice word.
I personally enjoyed S2E3 story better actually for 3 reasons, 1) I was never bored with the story at one part, getting the train to work was a drag for me, 2) I found the new characters in s2ep3 better and more interesting, Chuck was fine but I did not like Christa or Omid (I liked Omid in ep.4 though). 3) I loved the intense end of s2ep3, even though Long Road Ahead had a pretty good ending with the Stanger and all, I found Clementine chopping off a ladies arm more intense. Now I will tell you everything I found epic in Episode 3, Carlos slapping Sarah, Carver nearly killing Kenny, Carlos getting shot in the neck, Carvers death, Jane shooting Troy in the dick, Sarita getting bit, Bonnie joining the group, and Alvin's revenge.
Of course there was something's wrong with ep.3 like it is impossible to get caught and the lame 400 day characters.
And no, I don't think you are an asshole, youre just stating your opinion just like me.
I honestly found it really intense but the starting was a little slow but that's fine.
Well this Season feels rushed and half assed TTG needs to go past the 90 minutes BS because to ME it is having a negative impact on story and character development.
I figured Reggie was around to show that you can survive a walker bite if you cut off the limb. Once that was done, he was quickly dispatched, which I wasnt happy about. I agree about the 400 days group. One thing i was really looking forward to was seeing them again and getting to know more about them, Tavia too. Except for Bonnie, we didnt get so yeah, that was disappointing. Could we possibly get another dlc starring only the 400 days group as they are settling into the Carver camp?
