what is that characteristic of arcade games which sets it apart, from other games? Don’t you think arcade games have suddenly received a boost on the global platform?

Arcade games, in the literal sense, have always come in all shapes and sizes (metaphorically and literally). The gameplay does vary a lot between any two given arcade games, though there are admittedly some definite arcade genres, like fighting, racing, light-gun and obtuse-novelty-control-method. If you try to classify them as a genre, it becomes more difficult. A pattern does emerge. Since these games are designed to pump you of your quarters (or loonies now, yikes) as quickly as possible, arcade games tend to be defined by their high difficulty level, extremely fast pace (so that even fifteen seconds feels like a tangible experience), addictive gameplay and often a lack of any absolute completion.

I think Raj here is a garden-variety spammer... but since this could turn into an interesting discussion, I'll leave this thread here. :D

I'd wear my sunglasses at night... if I could find a pair I liked.
