I don't have a problem with Kenny as well, and i feel bad for him. But, i kinda agree. I'm hoping we get more about other characters. It's just he overshadows all the newer cast.

  • Yea that was crazy

  • This trailer altogether gave off the hopelessness every survivors feels, but especially Clementine and Kenny, since they're our two leads. And it's sad to see Kenny so close to just fading away, especially when you think of him during season 1 - even after Katjaa and Duck died, he still kept going! It's all just too much for him now. I hope he has a moment similar to the ones in episode 5 where he turns himself around and gives a damn good fight. And the same thing with Clem - this is pretty much the first time this season she's admitted that she's not okay.

  • yea it was a very depressing trailer. I'd like to see Kenny go out fighting or saving someone. Kenny maybe not be the best person around but realizes that and does his best to fix what he has messed up.

  • Let me preface this post. I am not happy. I normally like to keep my language in check, but I'm not censoring myself so much this time. That said:

I'm in the camp that wishes Kenny never even returned for season 2 at all. His arc in season one was beautiful, and I feel this season undid all of the progression he made. He accepted Katjaa's suicide and Duck's death. Now he's torn up about it again. He forgave Ben for indirectly causing those events. Now he's a "fucking shitbird" once again. It's like Around Every Corner and No Time Left never even happened.

As I step back and think about why this season has pissed me off so much compared to the first, I can pinpoint it to the moment Kenny is revealed in episode 2. I saw his trademarked green text show up as Clem was wading through the crowd and shouted "fuck no!". Up until that point, I was enjoying everything. Maybe not as much as season 1, but those were some pretty big shoes to fill. After that, everything seems to revolve around Kenny. Think about it; All That Remains was an episode that took everything away from Clem and left her on her own. She meets a whole new group of people. Some seem alright, some seem like jerks. I want to go deeper and learn about them. A House Divided comes along and we start getting that info. Nick takes center stage as we watch him deal with Pete's death. Then... Kenny appears. We get a quick wrap up for Nick and we see a hostage situation unfold between Kenny and Carver. In Harm's Way picks up after the group gets captured and immediately, Kenny starts formulating plans to get out of there. The entire episode is focused on his plan to escape. Even going along with Luke's idea doesn't happen until Kenny gives his blessing... You see where I'm going with this.

Kenny's arrival completely overshadowed the new group who genuinely piqued my interest. Carlos, Rebecca, Alvin... all swept to the side for the return of the prodigal asshole. Even worse, aside from the one conversation where Clem catches up with Kenny in the lodge, she seems to have forgotten about Christa. Yes, seeing a familiar face of someone you used to be on good terms with is nice, but that pales in comparison to finding the person who took care of you for almost two years, even after she lost her husband/boyfriend due to your carelessness, and went missing in an attempt to keep you safe. CHRISTA SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY HERE! She was not mentioned in episode 3 (or if she was, it was utterly forgettable and had no bearing on the actual plot).

Kenny's story has been told. It ended perfectly in No Time Left. Why bring him back just to drag him through the mud again? All I can think of is fanservice.

As for this coming episode, I hope it means we can let Kenny go for good. However, I won't be satisfied unless we get the real story of how he got out of Savannah before that happens. That fucking handwave "I got lucky. Real lucky" isn't going to cut it for me. At this point, I really don't care what ends his death serves, how it happens or who he saves. Explain, then GTFO and let the rest of the cast develop.

    Sorry. Double post.

  • Very nice comment I actually agree with a lot of things you said. Kenny is overshadowing a lot of people even Clem and it's her game. I also think there should be more talk about Christa and finding her but hey the season isn't over yet so things could change.

  • But based on how Kenny "died" in season 1 this has been planned for a long time.

  • What sucks is likely nothing will ever top his "death" in season one. It was perfect. Well the alleyway with Ben one was. It was redeeming and heroic and it felt like something that good ol Kenny had to do. I'm just worried if he dies now it won't be right.

  • One scene of him in the trailer makes him the primary focal point? It looks like Rebecca will be the primary focal point.

Another episode where Kenny seems to be the primary focal point... GREAT, CAN'T WAIT! Ugggh!

  • Aw, Kenny please, don't die, not yet...

  • I'm just commenting on how sad he seemed.

  • Kenny is nothing but a bore now. I'm not as mad that he returned, as I am that his development is non existent this season. Kenny indirectly caused the death of Walter and possibly Alvin. Ok, what did he learn? Nothing. No remorse, no self perceptions of life and death, no inner awakings, no nothing.

Carver beat Kenny within an inch of his life. Oh no, I wonder what he took from that? Diddly dick. That's not a small thing either, at that point you'd probably want to rethink consequences. No, it's cool, just do the boring "eye for an eye" gimmick everyone does because it's easy to write off and shoe-horn into a narrative. He's just boring now.

  • True, they wanted to give themselves the option to bring him back. I still think it was a mistake. Heck, they initially planned for No Time Left to be his end. I recall hearing they had to bring Mr. Hammond back to re-record some lines to make his final scene sound ambiguous instead of definite (and they were planning on him dying). But, Kenny's status as a fan favorite meant they wanted to bring him back. That's what I meant by fanservice. They changed their story in order to appeal to Kenny fans. If fanservice is the direction they want to go, fine, but where's my Omid, Christa, Carley, Doug, and Lee fanservice (for the record, I'm just being facetious)?

But based on how Kenny "died" in season 1 this has been planned for a long time.

  • You're all entitled to your opinions, but I'm going to be very sad if Kenny dies. I can really relate and empathize with his character and I hope he goes out with a blast, though they did say this episode was a tear jerker- and if Ken goes I'll be upset, but I'm sure they'll do it on an epic scale once more, though this time they should either keep him alive or show his death on screen to tidy up any misconceptions.

  • I didn't know that and I know what fan service is.

It looks to me like Kenny has finished his transformation into a full blown Death Seeker. There were hints of it as far back as Long Road Ahead, when he wanted to teach Omid how to use the train "In case something happens". His sacrifice in Episode 5, either for Ben or Christa, can be seen as an attempt to die without straight up killing himself. I think what the OP said about Kenny taking the radio is true, at least partially. While it was to protect Clem, part of it could also be because he wanted to die. Heck, his desire for death may have even been subconscious up until this point, without him even knowing what he was trying to do. After Sarita dies Kenny will have lost two families, countless friends, and even an eye. I think that now he actually will be consciously trying to die because he's lost so much he can't bear the thought of surviving to lose what little he has left.

I'd say it's good odds that Kenny doesn't make it out of Episode 4 alive, and I'm actually alright with that. I feel that this would be the best time for him to make his exit.

Also, Jane doesn't seem to be as much of a bitch as the preview at the end of Episode 3 made her out to be, which makes me happy.

  • SARITA T^T WHYYY

  • Thank you. Risking your life knowing you could die are signs of suicide as I said. I actually liked Jane when she first came in episode 3. I don't usually hate any of the characters anyway.

Kenny's speech made me hate Carver so much more than I already did.

  • I never meant to imply that you didn't. Sorry if it came off that way. There's just so many ways people can interpret the word, so I wanted to specify which one I meant.

I didn't know that and I know what fan service is.

  • No it's fine. I just letting you know that I did. I figured that would come off wrong.

  • Just know this is going to be one emotionally rough episode to play - already crying from the trailer - always difficult to see someone that was always a bad ass, take no shit, don't ever give up kind of person so despairing. Please don't die Kenny, or if you must - please go with a fight or as a hero.

  • Never Give up, Kenny :) We're with you :) Sarita is gonna be Ok.

  • Yea he will be missed.

  • Maybe it's best to just send him on his way and move on.

That ain't the living talking, it's the dead!

As much as it pains me to say this...maybe...maybe it's for the best if Kenny dies. He's been through a lot...he lost his kid and wife, and now probably his girlfriend. Maybe it's best to just send him on his way and move on.

  • He's had enough. I think it's up to us if he's gonna turn into a "death seeker" or there's still "humanity" left on him. I hope TTG won't kill Kenny, I never liked him on Season1, but man he has proven himself worthy of being a protagonist of this game.

  • Time will tell

  • Don't give up, never!!
S1 Ep1 quote from Kenny to Lee:"I'm not letting somebody else get eaten today.Especially a good friend"
Now Clem needs to him that.
A good friend never left behind, never.
I'm afraid of this Ep..The choices will matter now.Big...Bad...Choices.

I don't see Kenny as committing suicide, or being suicidal.
If that were true, why did he get up after getting beaten?
Why not just lay there, ad wait to die?

To me, Kenny is no more suicidal than Lee was.

  • i don't know why he got up
