I don't want the baby.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not trying to judge Telltale for how they wrote their story. I don't think they're bad writers just because I don't like the baby.

NOW THEN. I don't really care about what happens to the baby. I know that sounds fucked up, but my priority has always been Clem's survival. The baby's going to be more of a detriment to hers than most of the other things she's come across. Its crying would draw walkers, it would drain food, When Jane implied that it might be a good idea to leave the baby behind, I actually agreed with her... Although, Telltale wouldn't let me agree with her. All of the options forced me to side with Rebecca; even the silent one makes you glare at Jane. THX TELLTALE MY CHOICES MATTER

That aside, I only see a few good reasons for keeping this around

Kenny's sanity is a first. That baby completely took away his suicidal thoughts, it seems, but I'm willing to bet that he'll be broken if the baby were to go. That was his only escape from his other losses, gone. If Kenny is really going to force this baby on to the group, I'm worried he's going to SERIOUSLY give us some trouble. Luke would probably disapprove of leaving the baby behind, but it wouldn't as take much of a mental toll on him as it would on Kenny.

The impression it gives on others is a second. Look at Arvo: he tried to stop his group from firing as soon Clementine announced that they had a baby with them. Keep in mind that the group didn't seem to care for the most part, though. Very few people seem to care about Clementine's age in the end times; would they really care about the baby's?

Might be interesting to discuss. And I've got a poll here:

  • We're in the minority, but I'm with you. I sincerely hope we're not railroaded into caring about and keeping the baby. I know it might be teetering on too dark for them to go the route of being able to leave it or whatever, but if you put it out there, we should have the choice. Never has the presence of a baby really improved a work of fiction for me, they're basically plot devices, and it's going to be such a burden trying to take care of it in a ZA. Honestly, if Kenny or Christa or whomever wants to raise the baby on their own, more power to them, but I'm not getting stuck in that situation.

I don't care who in the group that mindset costs me, tbh. My Clem will survive, damn it.

  • Yeah. And from a personal perspective, I've never really been one for children in real life, ESPECIALLY not babies. The thought of raising a baby sounds horrible and time consuming, even without the zombie apocalypse.

The baby might be a bright spot for some players-some players saw their favorite or preferred die while others' favorite characters got them disappointed.

Lol, yeah, I wasn't going to go there but same. It's just not for me and I honestly marvel at how people are able to handle the all-consuming maw that is childrearing. I have a young niece that I babysit occasionally and while she is sweet and adorable and all, she is exhausting, and the thought of having to do that 24/7 for the next 18 years at least...good god.

it's so sad when you start thinking about it...... rebecca loved that baby so much and she did not spend enough time with it and didn't even name it. it's so horrible I wanna start crying again

Absolutely agree w/ thread`s author. In this episode I felt that my choices didn't mean shit like never before. I didn't want to help Rebecca and her damn baby , stay w/ this group at all. I would love to leave w/ Kenny or alone , but i coldn't even say something about it.

Realistically, the baby will be dead soon anyway. I don't think it's easy to find enough of non-spoiled milk a few years after the apocalypse. They have enough problems finding water, and it's much more common.

  • Pfft, watch the Russians have a convenient pregnant Russian woman that offers to take care of the baby.

  • I believe Bonnie mentioned something about how they have child formula. I love how that magically and conveniently just appeared.

  • That baby's gonna be more of a liability than Sarah was, and I didn't care enough to babysit even her. I hated Judith in the TV show and I can instantly tell I'm gonna dislike this baby too. I hope the story doesn't railroad us into caring for it, but I suspect it will.

  • Ugh, I know. IRL I love babies and it kills me that I want to leave this baby behind. I really, really hope it's not our endgame though. Not only is it an overused trope (babies are the salvation in the post-apocalyptic world etc etc) but I don't want Clem to take care of a baby. Are you kidding me she's 11. That shouldn't even be an option.

  • The baby is the next generation. If no babies survive, humanity will become extinct in due time.

  • I hate babies IRL too, though. Too much nuisance and the crying just gets on my nerves. Maybe my perception would change if it was MY baby, but as for other people's babies- keep those well away from me. And yes, I'm very much aware that views like this make people generally perceive me as a heartless monster.

  • What the fuck is wrong with everyone and babies? I love children.

  • So you hated yourself when you were a baby :p lol

  • Ugh, I never get why people ask this question. Of course we didn't hate ourselves as babies; we didn't even know what the hell was going on at that age. We're just annoyed by other people that are babies, and we're now old enough to realize how irritating they are.

So you hated yourself when you were a baby lol

  • Its gona be hard to protect the baby as we saw with Carol & Tyreese from tv show.

  • I don't think babies have enough understanding to love or hate anything, and neither did I. But hey, if I had observed myself as a baby from the side, I'm sure I'd have hated that too. I probably wasn't any better or worse than your average baby.

So you hated yourself when you were a baby lol

It's safe to say that eventually in The Walking Dead there will only be a few humans left alive, and that's a maybe.

  • Well, different people like and hate different things. Just because someone dislikes children doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them. Or with you.

  • Well yeah, exactly, and to add to that in the APOCALYPSE. Putting all of that on Clementine after all the babying she already had to do with the adults in the group would be punishing her tbh.

  • I just can't see it. Babies are defenseless. I didn't mean it to be hostile, i'm just saying, why?

Let me put it this way. I'm not hauling a damn baby around because it's "the right thing to do." I'm sick and tired of trying to do the right thing and getting burned for it.

Clementine needs to survive, I can't do that if some baby I feel nothing for is continuously holding me back from that objective.

It's a shitty thing to do, but I am through with things holding me back.

  • For me babies are annoying in general. But that's just me. I seem to lack whatever built-in compassion the evolution gave to humans so that they automatically adore all babies. But in the apocalypse? Do you even need to ask? It's a leech on the resources, makes constant noise to attract the walkers and requires constant care and attention for at least several years upon which it may or may not grow into something useful. Hell, is there a POSITIVE side to a baby in a zombie apocalypse scenario?

  • This is ridiculous . How can you say that ? The baby symbolizes HOPE ! We don't know what happened to Christa's Baby in ep1 . This is a classic foreshadowing.Christa will take care of that little baby..

  • Ugh, I never get why people can't take a joke

The funny thing is that I hate babies IRL, but I want to keep Rebecca's safe. I guess it's more for her and Alvins' sakes. Plus, it's also giving Kenny something to be prioritized with.

So true, having a baby in an apocalypse is just wrong, especially when his mom is dead now.
The question is that the baby needs his mom's milk now, who is gonna give him that milk? Kenny? :D
I don't really care that much whether he dies or not to be honest. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to throw him at zombies, I'll do my best to keep him safe.

  • Gonna give this thread a good ol' fashioned bump.

  • Yeah I have to agree here. Realistically with the mother gone, the baby is as good as dead, so it doesn't matter if you want to try and care for him or not. After two years, there's probably slim to no chance of finding baby formula of any kind that isn't already expired. The only hope for him is to find another mother he can feed from, but there's no body around like that...

  • Well it's going to most likely die next episode. These shouldn't really be alive in the apocalypse unless humans have already created a safe haven that can hold. It will just pose as a distraction and draw walkers towards the group.

Best course of action will be to leave it for the walkers to get out of a situation in order to survive.
