Vince tells Justin and Danny how they found the gun based on where you hid it.
Because the plot demands it...
That's the same with literally every single thing that happens in the game.
This is Vince's dialog for each choice:
Keep Gun: "Cops caught up to me before I ditched the gun."
Ditch in Trash Can: "Some stupid dog knocked the can over the next day. Kid found it and turned it in."
Ditch on Roof: "It was a good throw. And the roofer found it the next day."
Ditch in Storm Drain: "I guess it was clogged up with leaves. Street cleaner found it the next damn day."

If bad luck Vince was smart, he would've scraped off the serial number and put on gloves before murdering someone.
