  • And nobody needs to get butt hurt over it either. Look, it was used to induce humor into the scene and people use it for the same reason. In the certain context, yes, it's still funny. I'd give some examples of how it could be used in the wrong way but I don't want to be banned or anything.

Sounds like you're getting your jimmies rustled. Nobody deserves praise for not using racial slurs, even silly ones.

  • I looked through the reply's, and was disappointed no on had done this. It was my time to shine!

look i understand what you're trying to do but you clearly haven't read the thread or any of the comments so please stop. i'm not gonna get on you about it but i can't say the same for someone else.

Calm down dude, its not a big deal, and technically, Urban does NOT mean black, if your Urban then that means you are from a urban area such

  • yeah sadly it is.

Is this one of those things that only white people are getting outraged about even though they have no cause to be offended?

  • Hey, I understand. Thai guys in America face different issues from those of Indian ladies, or Mexican guys, or black folks, or so on. America isn't at all unique either when it comes to racial issues either - since I'm a half-Thai, I get the bonus of constantly being weird wherever I go.

But while the term "Person of Color" feels antiquated to me, it is something that folks I know are starting to use. And when it comes to the internet and media, it's nice to see representations of people who aren't all just whites. I liked The Walking Dead for having a black protagonist because while race was never explicitly an issue (slurs are hardly ever used), there's a certain tension you can imagine when people constantly question Lee's competence in being a good father.

There was potential in Season 2 for further explorations of racial relations. You got a bit of that in Carver's implied rape and possessiveness of Rebecca - for me, their relationship was that of a slave-master and a servant he lusted after.

damn that's gotta suck. i just wanted to say to never use the term "poc" to describe people that aren't white. just because we aren't white

  • Well good, people are just too sensitive in this day and age. Like I said though, by all means get pissed if they mean it with intent to offend and if people are using it in the wrong context just say "hey, y'know that's pretty racist right?" then they'll be like oh and shit themselves.

uh..i am black and i understand it was a joke and i'm not butthurt. i actually thought it was a very funny but its people that are using the

    Um.

White people are allowed to disagree with racism towards black people.

I'm not a woman, but that doesn't mean I can't campaign for women's rights, and empathise with them such that outrages as they are that things of this caliber are being treated lightly.

And no, I also explained this situation to my friend, who happens to be black, and he said that, quote, 'treating such situations lightly is what allows casual racism to exist'. And I agree.

Is this one of those things that only white people are getting outraged about even though they have no cause to be offended?

  • I don't think it was that big of a deal. I mean yeah. I see how it could be offensive, but it was just Kenny being a little ignorant. He wasn't really thinking about what he was saying. But if he was being like Mural Dixon from the T.V shows and using racism and hurtful words to be offensive. then yeah, we would have a problem. Besides, didn't the Urban joke happen about a year ago?

  • The reason its funny isn't because people want to make fun of black people, its funny because of the context Kenny used it in. There's been other racial jokes in this game before such as when Nick said "Luke hes becoming a danger to the group" in a Mexican accent to do an impersonation of Carlos. Nobody seemed to be upset about that so why be upset about this? its just a joke, get over it. This shouldn't even be a thread.

Firstly, the urban joke happened a year ago, but loads of people on this forum still use it to this day, hence it's still relevant.

Secondly, just because racism is only 'a little' bit of racism doesn't stop it being wrong, and doesn't mean we should make jokes out of it.

The fact that he wasn't thinking about what he was saying does not make it right, and I reckon you know that.

  • alright cool.

Nick was extremely racist when he pretended to be Carlos just because Carlos is Mexican and impersonated his accent. Ok, we've got that out the way now, no need to make a thread.

  • Look dude, nobody cares about this, or any other jokes posing as somewhat offensive in this game except for you. Larry calls Lee and Kenny homosexuals, Nick does a racist impersonation of Carlos, Kenny calls Luke and Nick gay in a way of trying to insult them. Do you see anyone else complaining about this? No because its just a joke, and that's what jokes are supposed to do, jokes aren't meant to be taken seriously, in fact their meant to be taken non-seriously so please just stop, nobody else cares but you.

Yeah I know. It's just a joke Walking Dead fans like to use and laugh at. Most people don't really use that joke to be offensive, it's just a Walking Dead thing, (If that makes sense). But anyway, I do see how it could be seen as offensive and I respect your opinion and point of view. This was just my way of looking at it and what I thought about the situation. :)

yes it did but people are still using it.

  • Why not? The guy next to me is urb- ... Black. Wow, they used a "bad word". Ass, cock, piss, fuck, bitch, bastard, tosser, tawt, cunt. I said lots of bad words. Alone they aren't that funny, put them in the right context and they can. Just like with urban.

@Duck_was his son thank you for making this thread. I agree, the joke was funny, but the extent to which people use it is not. I'm Indian-African (Or Blasian) so I get the 7-11 jokes and the Urban jokes :/ Anyway, I'm in high school, it happened mostly in junior high and stopped in 9th grade so I was happy about that, if anyone else has similar problems and is in junior high, take it from me, it gets better. I'm fine with the joke, but again, when people use it to refer exclusively to African-American/Black/Whoever for that matter is just wrong. All in all, any type of racism is just wrong. Some things you can't get around and just gotta persevere through it.
