I love the first Nightmare on Elm Street and Sleepaway Camp. The Conjuring and Mama are awesome too (hoping Annabelle won't be a disappointment).
My favorite part of horror is the atmosphere; subtle scares are the best kind. Aside from my one friend, my dad is the only other person I know who likes horror movies, so I tend to see them with him.
I watched this horror film 'A Serbian Film'. DO NOT WATCH IT. The worst thing is now that i've seen it I can't unwatch it. If anyone ever suggests watching it never talk to that person again and run away!
It's not in your face with monsters and shit, but there are disturbing scenes. I for one, didn't find it scary, just disturbing, but this movie is considered a horror movie. I loved it for the acting and directing style basically.
sorry I mistyped my answer I have the shining the one with Jack Nickson. Yes I agree its well acted and good director. I find the woman in the bath really disturbing but I have more disturbing films like Sinister, through I would never watch it again.
