But to sum it up briefly and to put aside Luke being one of my favourite characters this season, and to say this more from a writer's perspective...I just simply don't think it was a good death. I can see and understand what they were trying to do, but the surprise didn't work when there was nothing strong enough to compensate for the build up between Luke and Kenny's characters to go nowhere. The death didn't hit me like Lee's, it just hit me out of frustration for how ineffective it was and didn't benefit the remainder of the story when putting Jane in Luke's place. On Kenny's side of things it worked very well to where his character is given a good send off. Jane's, not so much, because she's not been there since our journey carried on in Season 2 and her development gets crammed in and rushed towards the end, as if we're meant to treat like she has always been there as an active part of the story, when she hasn't. Most of her scenes feel like a doppelganger to situations Luke could've been in easily, with the heated argument and inevitable fight between Kenny and Jane just feeling forced [especially when Jane at any time could've shouted 'AJ's alive, don't stab me!']
If it was true the original concept was for Luke and Kenny was to become friends, and that the tough decision would've been for Clementine to save one of them in the blizzard [even if the other got lost in the storm and didn't die] I think I would've preferred it than to what got given in the final product. Luke was a character that showed a lot of promise and the mishandle of his death not only stumped out that potential, but makes his purpose within the game feel meaningless when setting so up much with him, and the dynamic with him and Clem being a strong point after what we had in Season 1 with Lee and Clem. Clem and Jane sisterly business never came close, not even to what Kenny and Clem had as family.
Luke character arc became nothing more than a negative manipulation to the main storyline when he could've been much more, and thus has me looking towards Season 3 hoping the same mistakes are not made twice as I would be disappointed if any other characters get used in the same way...
So...you know...if you could just, do what Capcom did when they released Code Veronica over onto the PS2 by adding that additional cheesy scene where Wesker's goes:
About Luke, and write him back into the story, that'd be greeeeat ;_;
I'm sure as everyday passes I get more and more depressed about Luke's death. At first I was shocked (even though as soon as we got to the lake I had a feeling he was going to fall in) Then I watched that 'Clem and Luke's Journey' video which made me cry. Some things just remind me of him such as, when I'm at school or when my friend teases me about his death. His death was just so stupid and for me, predictable. The only thing that shocked me was the fact I couldn't save him. They should have at least made him determinant but he could still die from freezing to death, just a few more moments would have made it a satisfying, emotional death. Instead they make it so we either have to look at his floating body or him getting dragged down by a walker. I have to say I'm disappointed in Telltale they could have made his death brilliant, almost all of the Cabin group had shocking deaths that weren't emotional. Nick, Sarah, Luke, Rebecca and Carlos...

Also, I think his death was handled very well (save for Bonnie's after conversation and the rage inducing lying end game screen that punishes you for being smart). If he comes back i might just ragequit.

the bit I don't like about Luke's death was the logical choice, coving him and balancing out your wright on the ice would stop the cracking and you well get out. But if you pick that Bonnie goes over there to save him and the ice gives way. Basically you save him or you didn't Tell-tale pick they wording carefully but really in both options Clem saved Luke.
what makes it heart broken is Luke would have lived. Someone looked through the ep5 game files, there was audio from Scott Porter, the voice actor of Luke, breathing fast as he got out of the water. Apparently that bit was rewritten, cause when it come to end fight Luke wouldn't have fight Kenny, Jane was more of a logical choice so that what happened. If that bit was not change Luke might have lived to series 3, its unknown if he would died later time.

I don't really want to repeat myself too much, but a tumblr post I did some time back on Luke's death will say it better for me:

Don't worry. Next season we will have a light. A light bright enough to shine in all of this darkness.
[Yells, ShitBird!!] [Then Leave!] [Heh, Fucker] [I, GODDAMN YOU HE WAS MY SALT BRO!]
[muffled fuck you] [Well that'll be just fine by me!]
[Bashes head in] [Who could be your salt bro? Look at you!]
Ben survives to Ep5
But what if the light isn't bright enough? What if the darkness is darker than we think?
Doug deserves mentioning here
That was S3 of the TV series, the S4 and S5 showrunner doesn't do that
[Punches] [She's Staying!] [Fail, You can't press the Q button for Shit...] [FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!]
Then we shall obtain more lights! And we shall continue to obtain! UNTIL ALL OF THIS IS OVER!
You've got to let it go

[You can't punch me! I'm in the air!] [What? No!] [Counters your counter]
[GO TO HELL YOU SON OF A BITCH!]
But, But what if it is never truly over?
Then we shall continue to fight! And NEVER give up!
Since this is the riot thread and we are going to 'fight', do we need our cotton candy? We planned for this...
We did it. We planned for it. It's happening!
Hands out cotton candy to all of our members
Yes the 7 members in the steam group! (at least it's more than 3 :P)
