I got lucky in my fencing camp this August.
In August of this year from the 1st to the 11th there was a sleep away camp in Pennsylvania at a campus called the Hills Boarding school, anyways I had been fencing for 7 years ( the one with swords not with a hammer and a pick it fence) and I was a decent fencer not good plus I was unrated, on August 4th I managed to win a tournament there with 36 people and I myself was surprised since it was my first tournament that I've won. However, I got much luckier in my second tournament on August 8th at the campus because the tournament was an E1 tournament which means that if you get first place you would become an E rated fencer. What the ratings mean is that if you get a very good rating which is a C or a A rating then you could get a scholarship in fencing but the only downside to get a ranking is that in 4 years if you don't get the ranking again or a higher ranking between that time period your ranking would expire to a ranking lower. So I make it to the finals of the tournament of which first place gets a rating... The first two parts are not good for me. In a fencing competition during the direct elimination it goes to 15 points with three periods and 3 minutes in a period, by the end of the second period I was down by 4 points (8-12). My one friend from my fencing club gave me advice on what to do and that motivated me to win the tournament because he was the best fencer in my club. I managed to get 3 points in a row without getting hit by Nick (my opponent) you wouldn't believe how close this came... I was down by one point 7 seconds left in the last period and I needed to rush Nick and not get poked by his epée. I hit him with 1 second left and the time runs out. The refree then puts us in to overtime and Nick gets priority, which means that if I didn't get a touch on him in 1 minute then he would win, with about 20 seconds left... Nick rushed me and I hit him dead on the chest. Also, when I first arrived at the campus I thought that I was going to do terrible in fencing but I actually turned out to be the 4th best epée fencer there who was under 14 years old (I was 13). Do any of you guys play sports and went from being decent to being excellent at what you do? Also, what do you think of my one match for my rating? Please leave a reply if you like.

I'm not sure you know what the phrase "I got lucky in [ ___ ] camp" means... Usually that's band camp though...
Oh, I meant that I was lucky that I went from a not so good fencer to being one of the best at the camp... I laughed when I saw your comment though, trolls don't that this discussion that way.
Grats man. Live the dream.
Well done! I've always wanted to try fencing, looks like a lot of fun.
I came in here expecting something else too XD
And yes,I would like to take up fencing too, but there's no such thing in my country.
Thanks and how unfortunate ;(
Lol.
The best part about the match for the E rating in the E1 tournament is that my coach witnessed the entire match, he was very proud of me winning the E rating.
Yeah it is... Should have seen me when I first fenced when I was 7.
Another fencer on these forums?!
I got lucky. Real Lucky?
Yup!
True DAT.
Don't forget SaltBro
Course I wouldn't forget about you.
Matter of fact, everybody at my fencing club are friends with me... I'm an extrovert.
My trademark for the club is that I'd always wear a black original Xbox hat from 2001 to class during exercises until I suit up everybody who I am due to the hat I've been wearing since I was 2.
*Every body knows who I am.
damn autocorrect.
