Bring Back Downvotes! #BBD
I liked downvotes/dislike button and I think we should bring them back. Now you're probably going to say I'm stupid but I just miss it a lot. It expresses that you don't like the comment instead of perhaps a bad reply to it. I mean likes work the same way. Taking away dislikes won't stop the trolls. They can make an account and then like a trollish like account and upvote it giving it more likes then the person being trolled's comment, making that person feel bad, so really it doesn't matter if you take it away, the like/dislike system can still be used by trolls. Also I would like a dislike counter in your profile, because we have a like one so why not a dislike?
Of course it would be encouraged to not dislike too much so that a person doesn't have more dislikes then likes, I mean it's the internet, so it shouldn't be a big deal, and if the person is upset about their downvotes then they'll have to deal with it because it shouldn't be a big deal, if I had more dislikes then likes I honestly wouldn't care. But that's just my opinion so that doesn't have to be added in just bring back the downvotes at least.
It shouldn't be like this. It's like taking pessimism and leaving optimism. You can't have one without the other, it's like two sides of a coin.
I hope the web people consider this :P
What do you guys think?

HI WHATTHEDUCK. I haven't seen you in a long time! How are you?
As much as I believe they were a better thing, I think after they got removed it would be a bad idea to bring them back. Way too much whining about them, and think of the chaos that will ensue if they were to return.
Very good Raging.Haven't fapped in 3 months tho...I got ebola and my dick shriveled up and fell off like a butterfly bursting out of its cocoon.
I thought it got chopped off? I guess it grew back? XD. Oh well, just go beat ur meat or something.
idk, Personally I liked them but some people didn't so they got removed to make a more friendlier forum, I understand why, but I kinda like Down-votes, but bringing them back would cause way too much argument.
Let's not bring back the Dark Times Friends...
I love how the topic went from downvotes to ebola. I guess there's no stopping it
No problem, and you're not :]
I just wanted to spam this picture... somewhere... I'm a horrible person. XD
I liked them in terms of downvoting threads to see if it was spam or not. I think people abused the downvote button for comments though.
No?
The forums have been a less vitriolic place following therir removal.
We move forwards, not backwards.
Personally, I liked them just so I could see what the majority opinion is in an argument, it's a bit more difficult to tell because likes don' show you what people disagree on, having more likes than someone else in a conversation doesn't necessarily mean you have the majority on your side, you could just have a vocal minority.
However, I also see how these caused problems with the down vote trolls and the mad decent into madness. So, it can go either way for.me.
An argument being believed by the majority means absolutely nothing, though.
Downvotes have no more of a place than 'lol' buttons or 'angry' buttons or 'sad' buttons. If we really want to represent all emotions for no reason, we could have them, but as it stands, having one point system which is supportive as opposed to diminutive is a good thing.
I know majority opinion doesn't really matter, I just like seeing what's currently trending, what people like.
I just like information.
i think they should be brought back for threads but not comments
I don't even like the upvotes. If you like/dislike something, say so in actual words!
That being said, downvotes are also confusing. You can't tell if someone is downvoting the subject matter or the poster. Sometimes, the poster is complaining about something bad, and if you downvote, are you agreeing it's bad, or disagreeing with the poster?
prepare to be downvoted for no reason by trolls
I was never against the downvote button, so, hell yeah, let's return it.
Is it?
Then surely you also want angry, sad, lol, happy, awkward etc. buttons; for information?
Thats what the sims forum site had recently, my sister tells me.
Sure, why not? Sounds pretty interesting.
Anyway, I don't care how it turns out I'll just go with the flow.
I agree. The upvote button is lonely now.
(?) Reply Button Will Remember That
Ignoring that I personally don't miss the down vote button anyways, I'd say that even from a more objective viewpoint that it cause some issues. People made countless alt accounts just to down vote other users in order to get people riled up. It also made people more afraid to post potentially controversial opinions; in several cases, conflicting viewpoints that go against the mass opinion makes for better discussion.
If people don't like something, I personally think it makes for better discussion and a better forum culture overall if they have to explain why they dislike or disagree with something.
I imagine that's what Telltale was going after in theory once they initially added the down vote button, which I can understand. However, people only ever used it to passive aggressively troll and it made people afraid to post dissenting opinions in the first place. Also, it seems that nobody had a set idea on what they wanted the dislikes to indicate - including Telltale themselves. The feature seemed too vague and ambiguous, so users argued over what down votes were supposed to be used for.
True, but the same could go with the like button. I'd rather they just take out both.
How dare you propose that we take away the almighty like button!?!?!
I just realized what an unfortunate abbreviation that is
Raging's been figured out now, I told him it was a bad abbreviation to make ^_^
Green told me, but whatever. However yes very unfortunate...
You know what they say:
"Once you kill down votes, the fans want them back"
I think the down vote button would bring back unnecessary hatered on people. I think we're doing pretty well without it.
People can just use comments to unnecessarily hate people.
It's not as bad as A2M, which actually caused the game developer to change their name due to the association. :P
I personally think it is good that they're gone.
At first I wasn't, but I'm now starting to see the benefits.
Reason being, it adds more to actual discussions, if someone disagrees, they have to actually post a comment about it.
And it saves time, in that if you really disagree with something, but that in reality is a trivial topic, instead of replying, you can just ignore it all together, wwhich leaves more time for coming up with comments that are actually interesting.
