Yes, Russian people are good but I just get a feeling that the church affects our government and our country too much. It's strange how USSR was a purely atheistic country and modern Russia is under the feet of the church.

There are many children who live perfectly happy, loving lives with two fathers. There are also many children who live their lives in an abusive, neglectful STRAIGHT household. How a family chooses to raise their children is not under your control. There's no reason why you should care, unless that child is yours, or the child of someone you know personally.

But when he says Republicans he means people who vote republican in this context. Random people voting republican can't be saying stuff just to get votes, not people who vote democrats.
People who vote for the democrats are statistically likely to have more liberal social views. It makes sense, thus, that the party reflects that.
Also, the politicans certainly haven't said stuff like all republicans think women belong in the kitchen, as they would not get away with it politically.
So you're left with some people who vote liberal and have these views, and you saying they do this for votes despite them not being candidates. Which, well, makes absolutely no sense really.
