With Telltale's playstyle, a Deathnote spin-off would probably be the best fit because of the moral and investigative aspects and limited action sequences. That said, I do have a fondness for FMA, and they could do some cool things with the universe.
Neither have any chance of happening though.

I'm not much of an anime person so I wouldn't know how "smart" the writing is, but I'd say that Telltale is easily capable of intelligent writing even if you disliked the direction of Walking Dead Season 2. I think Wolf Among Us had some pretty intelligent writing - especially in the final episode, and Telltale's older titles definitely had some nuanced character arcs as well (such as Back to the Future or Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse).
I really wish that Jake and Sean had stayed at Telltale a little longer - if only so people would give the newer games more of a chance and quit acting like Jake and Sean were the "only" good writers at Telltale. Telltale made good games both before and after Walking Dead Season 1. If you don't like Season 2 of Walking Dead, then fine, but I don't think it's a good excuse to collectively hand wave away the efforts of the other writers or the merits of Telltale's other stories.
Also, if you want to constructively criticize their work, that is fine, but please leave personal insults made directly towards the writers out of it. The forum guidelines collectively apply to regular members, volunteer moderators, and staff members alike - and yes, Staff Members do read the forums and sometimes even post here.

And Code Geass would make the most sense for a TT game. It was a very grim and serious show, matches up will Telltales Depression inducing story telling.

I also think Future Diaries would be interesting. I watched that recently and adored it, though the ending was not stellar in my opinion.
I'd say the second half of Death Note with Near and Mello was pretty bad as far as logic and plot structure goes, actually. And I would think that Telltale could establish a villain in perhaps a more subtle way than a blaring latin chorus, maniacal laughter to himself, and menacing potato chip-eating.
i thought the same way too, about the Near & Mello thing, that's why i liked the movie version more, where L was the victor. and it felt like Near was a little arrogant in the anime. and how could someone as meticulous as Light fall into Aizawa's simple trick.
