  • I didn't play it myself personally, but I did watch an LP and it looked pretty good from what I saw, with an intriguing story and cool characters. Though I believe it does have connections with another game from the same company, "Downfall", though it's just a brief cameo.

  • It sounds really good, i did a little research and the "downfall" is being remade, sometime next year. I'm going to be picking this up in a few days when Steam Sale hits.

I never heard of this game, I found it through the Steam Que building thing, it recommended it to me because of TWDG.

I must say George, I'm surprised to hear you so excited about having a female protagonist. I had you pegged as one of those republican/conservative SLWs that think any representation of women is a leftist plot. Maybe I was wrong.

  • At this point in my life, i just want everyone to be happy, and not fight with anyone. I understand that people have strong feelings about ideals, and i am "trying" really hard to be more understanding, Sometimes i say things normal people would see as inappropriate. It was how i deal with things, everything is a joke mentality, as a defense mechanism. I been doing it my whole life. It just was a way to deal things, then a normal person will see the exact thing, and not find it appropriate or be offended by it. Again it was never my intention to be like this, just turns out this way i guess.

  • Well that's a very good (and incidentally, leftist (who'd have thought that left is right #pun)) view to take, and one I wholeheartedly respect :)

    Good on you mate.

I have it, but I haven't played it yet. It does look really good though, so it's on my to play list (I'll probably play it for my Halloween themed reviews on my blog next year, since I have a long backlist).

If you're interested in this game, the game's developer, Harvester Games, originally made Downfall, and is remaking it in the style of The Cat Lady. The original version of Downfall is now available to download legally, free of charge.

  • At first I thought you were posting about the cat lady from the Simpsons. XD

    Interestingly creepy-looking game nevertheless.

  • Cool story, great immersion, hard puzzles, terrific voice acting and amazing soundtrack. It's a great game.

    I didn't know you have a game-review blog Jennifer!

Might you link it to me? Or do you prefer to separate different parts of your online presence, in which case no problem :)

It has one of the most amazing, and beautiful stories in a game I've ever seen. I watched someone LP it, and it's kinda hard to get into at first, but you just gotta stick with it. It deals with depression, suicide, and overall a shitty life situation of the female protag. But the build up, the ending, and definitely the message is absolutely beautiful. :)

It's got a lot of puzzles and stuff you have to figure out, but I think it's overall an incredible game.

  • Agreed. It's one of the best indie games I've ever seen.

  • Is it so sad its going to make me feel depressed, I'm not sure if i want to go that dark. Its hard enough surviving seasonal depression.

  • I still think you will enjoy it because of the message of the story. Essentially this game is about the story of a woman, of the character we're playing as. It's about her growing stronger... but I don't want to spoil much for you. I still think you'll really like it.

I'm indeed really looking forward to King's Quest. :) Especially since it's both a sequel and a reboot at the same time (since the gameplay features a young King Graham, but the story is told by an old King Graham to his granddaughter after the events of King's Quest 8). It looks to be a platformer mixed with an adventure game from the trailer (which can work well, as The Cave has shown, especially if they manage to have a system to hold multiple inventory items at once to eliminate backtracking).

As for Downfall, they're remaking it in the style of The Cat Lady, which should be quite interesting. I'm looking forward to that one too, although I'll admit I haven't yet played either Downfall or The Cat Lady. As for Downfall, I'm debating about whether to play the original first, or wait for the remake and then play the original afterward.

  • I instantly thought of it too. XD

  • As a matter of fact, I bought this today, it was really cheap ($2.49). Going to play it pretty soon. By the way, it looks great.

  • I started watching it(at night and now I'm super creeped) and it's really good but it's really dark, cool game though.

  • Cool, thanks a lot for this link! I just downloaded the game.

  • I've heard of a different, but older game with a female protagonist called Witch's House or something similar. It's a creepy game, but the end left me depressed for a while.

  • Also, Cat Lady seems interesting.

Since it appears to be mixed with platforming aspects, lots of deaths are very likely. :P

I really hope they end up having Old King Graham narrate the whole adventure, like the narrator in the classic King's Quest games. The deaths in classic Sierra games, complete with the narrator describing the events, is one of the charms of those games. The deaths could have a tone of humor to them, Tales from the Borderlands style, if his granddaughter calls him out on the deaths in his story. :D

So this game is basically 'Forever Alone Zombie Liberal Feminazi Tumblrite Simulator 2015'? I think I could fit more adjectives into that title, but you get the gist.

  • So I don't know what this guy means with "tumblrite feminism-somethingsomething". It really has nothing to do with any of that. Depression Quest this ain't and that's a compliment. It's better than most "story-driven emotional games" you see nowadays. You know the ones I'm talking about, the "walking-simulators".

I also recommend the Samaritan Paradox. It's from the same publisher and I'd it's just as good if not better than the Cat Lady.

  • Quite possibly one of the worst reaction gifs I have ever seen, but I commend you for your effort.

  • Cheers
