I'm not sure we should be proud of ourselves just for being born somewhere, regardless of whether that place is the USA or Israel or Turkey or whatever.

Being born isn't really a personal accomplishment.

Also: all countries are, by definition, modern.

I know what you mean, I'm not proud of being what I am just because it's what I am.

In fact, I'm ashamed of some aspects of my country, but all in all I'm proud to live here.. Even with it being tough sometimes.

I'm Russian. And yes, I'm exactly what you just imagined - I do wear ushanka hat all year round, drink dozens of litres of vodka every day and sleep with an AK under my pillow.

  • Yes, we need soldiers here in Brazil.

My national identity would have to be Scottish and British: I was born/have lived in Scotland for my whole life but I also feel extremely patriotic towards the UK.

If I had to pick between the two then British.

  • What are you doing here Jake?

  • I considered it because I live in México and supposedly I have to but it's pretty easy to avoid and most people don't do it, most of my consideration was joining a military school since the main reason I haven't studied yet it's lack of resources but I hate the military and the government too much and if I did that I would be required to work for the military for at least 10 years after I get my degree and I'd rather not, besides I don't like any soldiers I've met and I've almost gotten in fights with them multiple times but fortunately I somehow manage to calm down before throwing a punch, doesn't matter the shit the military does around here is hardly what I would call serving the country, more like doing awful shit the people will hate you for.
