The Order 1886

The game came out here in New Zealand today, I just picked up a pre-order. Gonna play it tonight. Has anyone played it yet? What did you think? There's been news going around that its only 5 hours long because of the game being leaked on YouTube or something before launch. I doubt whether its that long. In fact, the developers themselves have said its about 8-10 hours. But anyway, it looks like a great game.

  • Its a shame if thats true. I was looking forward to playing that but im not paying new release prices for a game that short, I'll wait for a price drop.

  • Well, from what I've read, it was done in a quick playthrough, so, 5 hours is not reliable.

  • Man, those are some pretty low scores. I was expecting it to do better than that.

  • Well, there goes any chance that I was going to buy the game.

  • I am actually glad i didnt buy a ps4, i am not missing out on much.

  • Dont listen to reviewers. Its best to make up your own mind and be your own critic. Thats the way I see it anyway. I'm playing it at the moment and its pretty good.

  • Not a good sign for 2015 with games being overhyped like in 2014.

First Evolve and now The Order 1886.

Sure its been hyped a lot, but, after playing it for a few hours, I rather enjoy it (I haven't finished it yet), and it was worth the wait.

  • I don't really trust reviewers that much. Driveclub got several low scores when it was released, but I've been having a blast with the game... although I only started playing it after the patches.
The Order has received a few 4s, a 3 and a 2, but, in my opininon, those scores make no sense. For game to receive scores such as those, I'd expect the game to be broken, with several glitches, bad gameplay, a really bad story and awful graphics, and based on some opinions I've read, that doesn't seem to be the case with The Order.

Since you already have the game, I think that it is best that you play through it first, so you can have your own opinion on it.

  • I haven't played it personally, but I heard it wasn't that great and was just ok

  • I usually do, God knows I don't listen to reviewers. However I'll listen to how it goes.

  • Yeah, it's 5-7 hours long.

The developers got angry about "people taking false accusations about the game's lenght" and they turned to be true. Fucking ridiculous, Ready at Dawn made fools of themselves.

  • I think the problem is that people judge things before they even come out, and some are letting a You Tube leak ruin it for them, and also so called bad reviews tend to stop people from even getting the game and playing it. Can't people think for themselves and make up their own minds? I know reviews are helpful in some way, but, its just one person's biased opinion based on their own experience.

  • Well, I have played about 4 hours so far, and haven't reached the end yet, so, the whole 5 hour thing is a load of bullshit. From what I have seen and played, its a pretty damn good game. Better than Destiny, in my opinion.

  • So its 5-7 hours long, does that really matter in the long run, if the quality is excellent? I think that's the case for this game.

  • I'm sure the game could actually be pretty good. The thing is, besides the possibly 5 hour long campaign, is that (from what I heard) there is no replay value to this game and that a good chunk of the game is comprised of cut-scenes (non-interactive). It is just not worth the $60 if true.

  • For some people game length does matter. I'm not gonna lie, but length of certain games do somewhat matter to me because I honestly don't feel like I get my money's worth ($60) purchasing a game that I can easily tackle in just a few hours or one day. Sure the quality of the game could be excellent, but for me it's not enough to justify being a short game imo.

    Everything is better than Destiny.

  • It saddens me to see that this game is doing badly. This was my MOST anticipated game for 2015, and upon what I've seen, they didn't deliver. The concept of the game sounded great, but it was executed poorly in the end. :'( Oh well, at least Hotline Miami 2 and Uncharted 4 are coming out this year.

  • I hear it was quicktime event heavy too. I don't really mind quick time events, but if it's a major concept in your THIRD PERSON SHOOTER, then that is a problem.

  • I have been playing it, and it does have quite a few quick time events, but, it has more shooting in it. There are a lot of cutscenes too, but, they add to the game.

It's about 7 hours, maybe 10 if you really take your time which is really short considering there's barely other thing to do than the main story, i've heard that the story, character and setting are awesome as well as the graphics, but it's just ok when talking about actual gameplay

  • Well, the devs were saying that its about that long, and they said that a lot of shooters are usually about that length, maybe a lil longer.

  • I haven't because I don't have money lol. There is no doubt that I am going to try it in the future though. When the price goes down, I'll give it a shot.

How is it so far by the way? Tell me the goods and bads so I know exactly what I am in for.

Yeah but other shooters atleast have multiplayer, with this game you're pretty much done after you beat the campaign, it's a good game, not an awesome game as promised just a good game, but i feel it could have been so much more

  • 5-7 hours? Even TWAU is longer than that.

  • That's just an estimation though. People play through it slower than others, so, everyone's experience is different.

Well, it all depends on what you like. It has good shooting gameplay (sorta like TLOU, in a way), the characters are pretty interesting, and the plot keeps you guessing. Sure, there are quick time events and cut scenes (just like in most games) but I believe these don't take away the enjoyment of the game. Like I said, everyone is different, so, you might not like some of those things, And as for whether its worth the money? I believe it is. I am enjoying it very much.

  • I don't understand the comparison. The Wolf Among Us was a short ass game but practically everyone loved it and its been nominated/won some GOTY awards. If this game, or any game, can capture the players in an engaging story the length shouldn't matter.

  • Everyone should have known this game was going to suck when they saw the commercial and the best review quote they could find to put in it was 'visually striking'(or whatever the exact quote was).

  • I've heard this game goes for the Assassin's Creed route of not giving you the full story until you buy the sequel. :/

  • No, the thing I'm angry about is that they lied to us.

  • I just said that because TWAU is kinda short when is compared to TWD s1 or s2, the same videogame genre.

  • TWAU can be a $20 game where as The Order 1886 is a $60 or more (+ tax). The quality is only part of the argument, the other half is if it's worth it. But lets hope this game goes on sale quick so people can justify buying it.

people do realize the length isn't the only reason the game is getting bad/mediocre reviews right? seems like that is the only thing people are worried about

  • Yeah that's true. But a lot of people I've talked to have all complained its too short. And it is rather short. I finished it in about 7 hours.
