What?... Maybe invest in a map or something? Scotland and England are separate entities, both of which are found within the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is a sovereign state (internationally what is known as a "country") whilst Scotland and England - as well as Wales and Northern Ireland - are constituent countries within the United Kingdom.
Those who identify themselves as being from Scotland are referred to as "Scottish", those from the UK are known as "British".
National identity is not a set rule, you can identify yourself as any national identity if you chose - it is your personal identity as opposed to your ethnicity (which is a matter of birth).
Also calling yourself British simply means you feel an attachment to the British state - it doesn't necessarily mean I am from each individual part of the UK. Eg. Calling yourself 'American' doesn't mean you are from each state, same for 'Canadian', 'German', 'Spanish' etc.
I considered it because I live in México and supposedly I have to but it's pretty easy to avoid and most people don't do it, most of my cons… moreideration was joining a military school since the main reason I haven't studied yet it's lack of resources but I hate the military and the government too much and if I did that I would be required to work for the military for at least 10 years after I get my degree and I'd rather not, besides I don't like any soldiers I've met and I've almost gotten in fights with them multiple times but fortunately I somehow manage to calm down before throwing a punch, doesn't matter the shit the military does around here is hardly what I would call serving the country, more like doing awful shit the people will hate you for.
Its actually realy anoying how people think of britain as a country when its actually a group of countries. You said that they meant they were english but their arent because england and scotland are different countries also im sure theu know what nationality they are. I heard an american celebrity say Scotland was their favorite part of england thats just silly.
Anyone here ever considered serving your country's army or used to serve?
If so, what did you do/plan to do?
I'm joining the IDF in a … morelittle less than 2 years, if everything goes accordingly and Ill be found qualified (it takes perfect score on all aptitude tests), I'll be joining the Intel Corps on a unit called "8200", but if I'm found fit for combat and they lack manpower, I might just be sent to the front, unless I prove I'm worthier somewhere else that is.
Although technically it's incorrect to call Britain a country (as Britain is an island - officially Great Britain), the United Kingdom is a sovereign state which is - to an extent - a country. A sovereign state is effectively the modern definition of what a country is - for example the United States, Canada, Spain, France etc. are all sovereign states. It is a state with a central government which is not the subject or dependency of another state.
Scotland, England and Wales are all constituent countries which is effectively geographic/political area recognised as a country which forms part of a larger political entity/sovereign state. I believe Northern Ireland is actually defined as a province of the UK. Wales was previously a principality until recently.
From what you appear to be saying you are suggesting that they are all separate independent nations joined as an international organisation (UK) - this is a very common misconception, even amongst Brits ourselves. But this is not the case - which is clearly highlighted due to the fact that England itself has no central body outside of Westminister (the UK parliament), whose powers apply to the entirety of the UK rather than a specific part of it. Similarly, Wales and Northern Ireland have assemblies: these are unable to make laws. The Scottish parliament is limited to devolved matters, with reserved matters such as foreign affairs, the constitution and defence reserved for the UK parliament.
PM David Cameron defined the United Kingdom as "a country of countries".
Anyway, sorry for explaining that it's just I want to ensure that people understand what the United Kingdom is...
After all, in terms of actual independence, the US states hold far more autonomy than any body within the United Kingdom outside of Westminister (eg. the Scottish parliament is less independent than that of the Californian government).

I'm Russian. And yes, I'm exactly what you just imagined - I do wear ushanka hat all year round, drink dozens of litres of vodka every day and sleep with an AK under my pillow.
That's naive and admittedly something I think about all the time, more because I think being a detective is the ideal job for me and something I'd be really good at but I have some doubts about who I really am and whether I'd do the right thing, I mean as is I've already done some vigilantism and picked fights with drug dealers, despite the fact that I think I'm the best person I've ever known I'm still pretty much in that morally gray area and with my temper and self-righteousness it's hard to imagine that I would not abuse to some degree or even before that just get killed for being so direct, plus I'm not the kind of person that worries about consequences when I'm in the moment, I just act and again combined with my temper and my habits of defying authority or whatever hostile person is in front of me (Whether they are against me or some other person) it seems likely that I might cause problems to escalate rather than appease them.
I mean don't get me wrong, I love myself and I think I'm capable of anything but fortunately I'm also smart and analytically inclined so I can detect my flaws and as much as I'd like to say that because of that I can control them I'm afraid that a critical flaw of mine is that I can't so I do my best to keep out of situations where I could lose control and considering some of the things I've done when I've lost control it seems like the most responsible choice.
If they're so awful, I would consider joining the military police and trying to make a change, but that's just me.
Anyway, good luck with anything you do

I know that, besides I'm not stupid enough to join such an organization, the last thing I want is to oppress people and freedom, I'd rather die than join the army.

I don't know anything about the army of Israel but I highly doubt that it's going to be what you expect, in any case I hope you do well and I really hope you don't get to see battle in your endeavors.

What's up with all this "I'm a quarter Spanish" and "one eighth French on my mum's side". Nationality is the ethnic group/nation you identify yourself with. Just because you have distant links to a place doesn't mean that's your nationality. If you really feel Spanish/Italian then that's fine but he wasn't asking for the nationality of your great-great grandpappie.

I never really considered joining up for the military. I'm not a dude that would fare well in any armed forces. The life just ain't for me.
Born and raised in the United States.

Half Asian Half White. I have eyes almost as wide as Indonesians but are a different type of shape
I see, with that said, you shouldn't join the military... It's all about taking orders, never acting on your own.
I know that, besides I'm not stupid enough to join such an organization, the last thing I want is to oppress people and freedom, I'd rather die than join the army.
The army in Mexico sounds horrible, it's never supposed to oppress people and it's not what I'm going to do.
American with Scottish, German, Native American, and Italian blood.

Murican of "melting pot" descent.

I pretty much know what it's like, since both my parents served and my cousin is telling me how it's like during his 3 years now :P
Thanks, it means a lot
