For me, I never thought of overrated as necessarily being a bad thing, just something that gets more merit than it really deserves. If I had to pick a game I'd consider to be overrated, I'd go with The Last of Us
Now don't get me wrong, I still really like TLoU and it's up there on my list of favorite games, but it honestly gets more praise than it fully deserves most of the time
However, I'll give it credit in one area: the balance between story and gameplay. A lot of games tend to sacrifice one of these for the other, but I found TLoU to do a pretty good job of striking a balance between the two. It's not perfect and it still suffered from segregation at times, but they did a pretty nice job of holding it together
TLOU : It was a nice game , but imo not "one of the best games ever" .
Dark Souls : It had a lotta good things going on , but I just hate how most people praise it because it's HARD . I mean c'mon , that's not something to praise(or criticize) . When I ask those "Hardcore" fans about this game , they just keep saying "IT'S FREAKING HARD!!!!" . With no mention of its story , characters , etc . I myself finished it a long time ago and really loved its atmosphere and boss fights , but I think the amount of praise it got was kinda overrated . I'll take DA : Origins over Skyrim/Dark Souls any day .
P.S : I gotta say , I loved Life is Strange(at least more than TWD S2) . During my first playthrough I thought it was meh , but then today I freed up sometime and replayed it and tried to explore everything(the same way I played Gone Home) and absolutely loved it(And no , I'm not a teenager/girl) . Loved the way they handled time control and also how they demonstrated Highschool drama without turning it into another teenage drama shit . They actually made me care about
Far Cry 4. I loved FC3, but FC4 felt like it was just re-using everything. Riding the coat tails of it's previous success and not really doing anything new or interesting. Pagan Minn felt like a Handsome Jack rip off, except with way more pop culture reference jokes. Over-hyped to hell and praised beyond belief, but the better game was it's previous successor thanks to it's original ideas and better story IMO.
Destiny. Story sucked, gameplay was meh, and nothing else really to say about it. Just another fps dull game that was over-hyped like crazy.
All of these for me
* The Last Of Us - God, I hated this game.. I got so bored of it. The only person who I somewhat liked what Sarah,… more but other than that my interest was minimal. Ellie really bugged me also..
* Grand Theft Auto - Grand Theft Auto's a really good game but its talked about WAY too much, its fun but I get bored after playing it for more than a few hours in a week.
* Assassins Creed - Meh.
* Tomb Raider - Tomb Raider is also good but Lara (new version) is bland as hell and almost like a damsel in distress imo. She's not really much of a badass and doesnt really have a unique personality.
* Far Cry - Far Cry 4 is overrated in my opinion, my friends wont stop talking about it.. I played it and it was good but gaming websites seem to freaking have sex with this game.
* The Walking Dead (in many aspects) - Yeah... Sad to say I think The Walking Dead is kind of overrated, especially Season 1. I re played Season … [view original content]

But how do you know if your choices make a difference in the plot yet? The only thing that's been confirmed about that whole thing is the multiple endings based on your choices.
Plus, I don't really see how different it is from games like Beyond Two Souls?
The fact your choices actually make a difference in the plot (Cant really go into this for good reasons)
That's fair. I can see why people would like FC4 over 3. Updated beautiful graphics, countless amounts of stuff to do, and the gameplay defiantly felt tighter. The game just didn't click with me the same way it did with plenty of other people.
People put it up on a pedestal as the best of the series, but I just can't see it. It had pretty much no plot direction whatsoever. The first game had this epic far-reaching plot with a great antagonist, epic scope, mystery, and it built everything up for a great sequel. And then...Mass Effect 2 didn't really pick up on that plot at all. 99% of the game was recruiting a bunch of squad mates and solving their daddy issues. The Reaper plot was pretty much sidelined, and come Mass Effect 3 the few things ME2 did to try and be relevant to the overarching trilogy's plot ended up amounting to absolutely nothing anyway.
It's a total drop off point in the trilogy, tbh. And I think part of the reason ME3 suffered so much was because of it.
Also, the gameplay felt like what Gears of War would feel like if Marcus Fenix's feet were nailed to the ground and his pants were riding up.
Good Question Gary... Hrm.
There were a lot of over hyped games... Trying to think of the best.
Well Watch Dogs comes to mind. I bought that game, and was disappointed with it immensely.
You're not alone. RE4 was ok, but RE5 at least had a partner that could defend themselves and would help aid you.
Then again, most RE games are kinda "meh" in my opinion (the one's I've played).
Well allot of the time it all depends on what you like about games and what you dislike. Someone can say something is overrated while another says it's underrated, these words are literally just opinions and therefore biased.
The problem is when your led to believe that a game will blow your mind and you think you wont be able to stop playing for hours and then yo… moreu go out spend your hard earned on it only to discover that its not amazing at all just average, maybe above or below average, when you were promised something special it doesn't live up to expectations thats what annoys me
Lol there are A LOT of overrated games but The Last Of Us is not one of them... If you hate TLOU you are either an xbox extremist, have a really short attention span, too used to COD and blowing up things or are underage ( 80% of people on this forum) and do not understand the complexity of the story.

Boring gameplay? Predictable story? Terrible characters? no opinion has ever been so wrong..The over a hundred game of the year awards this game got strongly disagrees with you. Did you play the game or watch pewdiepie play it on YouTube like most children do, There's a big difference..

I don't know, the gameplay can still be boring to him, the story can be predictable to him and the characters may seem terrible to him, it doesn't mean his opinion is wrong, It's a game.

Never said you were a child, read my comment again, I just said many children watch play throughs on YouTube instead of playing them. There are so many games that deserve an overrated title.. Destiny.. Titanfall.. Etc yet he calls out the last of us xd. Just because it's his opinion doesn't mean it can't be wrong it's like me saying " in my opinion hitler loved Jews" it's just wrong...
The last of us is the only game that lived up to the general hype

People say it's the best game of all time. It's nowhere near that. The gameplay is unoriginal and boring. And the story is predictable. Oh look, Joel's daughter dies. I only knew that was going to happen the second I saw her. Ellie is bitten? That was obvious too. You can predict everything that's going to happen in the story 30 minutes before it's going to happen by just looking at the cover of the game, or watching a trailer.

You can predict everything that's going to happen in a 15 hour story after playing for 30 minutes.. Seems legit.. Still no explanation of how the gameplay is unoriginal and boring, to me it was a great combo of stealth and combat.
Last of Us is the definition of overrated.

Unoriginal because nearly everything in the game is in literally every third person shooter ever. And boring because literally every third person shooter ever has boring gameplay.

It has its own world, it's own context, it's unique environments and story, just because it's in a specific genre of gaming doesn't make it unoriginal, like me saying dying light is unoriginal because it's first person like COD.

I'm not saying third person has been done before, I'm saying the actual gameplay itself, the cover mechanic, the over the shoulder camera when aiming, the combat, it's all been done before, it doesn't try anything new.

Nope, it's not wrong as an opinion, and it deserves respect as an opinion. Only when Hitler started persecuting the Jews, then was it a problem, as long as you don't take action based on your opinion, your opinion is never "wrong", because it's just a thought you have and what you believe in.
But let's not veer from the subject, I'm just saying that his opinion about a game can't be wrong even if it isn't a common one, it's his impression of the game.

Ok then by that logic in my opinion I want to grab a gun and go shoot 50 innocent people tomorrow but it deserves respect because it's my uncommon opinion. Taking action or not doesn't matter it's still horrible

If it's any consolation. I too think The Last of Us was a masterpiece. And I don't care about any of this hype train shit, I pre-ordered it and bought it the day it was released. I made damn sure not to look up any reviews or spoilers. So I went in knowing zip. And finishing it, I can say it's one of the better post-apocalyptic games out there.
Objectively, there isn't much to complain about. The action was intense and combat was fun while posing a challenge. The story, although at times predictable, had enough twists that it kept characters fresh and interesting. Hell, even the online was amazing. And I thought it would be some tacked on shit.
And there's a scene that rivals even that of TWD season one's ending in my personal opinion. The goddamn deaths of two of my favorite NPC's. Sam and Henry, that scene really hit hard. Hell, about as hard as TWD season one's farewell.

Five Nights at Freddy Trilogy
Minecraft (Gets boring after 30 minutes)
Call of Duty 4 (It's not the best)
The Last Of Us (Talked about WAY TOO MUCH)
Grand Theft Auto V (The only good thing about this game was heists)
2K/EA Sports Games (Popular in my school)

New Lara is badass and my favorite version
When did I ever say I hated the games? I only hated TLOU.
Honestly I'm the opposite. I didn't like FC3, but I love FC4.

That's stupid. You do not need to have a short attention span to recognize boring gameplay, a predictable story and terrible characters.
