Games You Wanted to be Good but Were Bad

We've probably all had those moments. Waiting a year for a game that we thought was going to be so good and then feeling ripped off lied to when you payed money for it. 2014 was a bad year for me personally, so I'm wary of what this year will bring. Here's my list of games that I have found disappointing in the past.

  1. Saints Row the Third (2011): Don't get me wrong, Saints Row 3 was and is a very good game, but it was the weakest of the four games. I remember being so excited when I saw the E3 gameplay demo seeing a glimpse of the new city of Steelport and finding it bland months later or being unable to do a lot of cool things shown like shoot pedestrians out of cannons (all though we did get a van with a flamethrower).

  2. Assassin's Creed Unity (2014): Before I say anything else, I just wanna say that Unity is far from bad. It was a solid entry in the series, but it went backwards in a lot of ways. First, the fact that some collectibles seem to be placed in this sewer system with no map whatsoever. Then there's the amount of content locked behind DLC, Initiates or the companion app ( some stuff was unlocked, but the Altair outfit is still locked behind a pointlessly difficult system). I felt really ripped off by Ubisoft when I played Unity.

  3. WWE 2K15: When I heard the amount of criticism that this game got, I didn't even bother picking it up and probably never will. The creation suit was stripped of a lot of features that had been around for years (Arenas, Entrances, Finishers, female wrestlers, stories). Then there's the amount of match types that had been cut out. Things as simple as a LADDER match were unplayable in exhibition mode.

That's all that I can think of at the moment. Might post more later.

I have a hard time believing you played the first game.

You forgot the worst part of Unity

    Also the glitches

  • I did play it. Perhaps I should have worded my post better. I enjoyed the gang warfare vibe of the first game, and it had some very funny dialogue at times. Saints Row 3 was in this weird spot between gangster and bat shit insane, and the city was just not as interesting as Stillwater.

but it was the weakest of the four games. I have a hard time believing you played the first game.

  • Oh yep. Microtransactions. There's no doubt in my mind that they fucked with the resource system to push these fucking things on players. I gave them 3 bucks for a bit of DLC, and that's all I'm giving them.

  • The Order 1886. I wouldnt say it was BAD bad, but, it was rather disappointing. Too many cutscenes, QTE's and it was too short.

  • Borderlands....

    Borderlands 2 :D

  • Watchdogs- OMG I hate this game. What a let down, after this game i refuse to purchase any more ubisoft games ever AGAIN.

Dead Space 3 - They didn't know what to do with the story.

Fatal Frame series: since its placement on the Wii/ Wii U that game series deader than Grandma, after her bout with pneumonia.

TWDG Season 2 had so much promise, but became average story game due to the "writing."

  • The worst part of Unity was that they removed what made AC 4 different from the othe ones SHIPS. Why would they remove ships if there was such great reception about them???

  • Any game made by EA and Ubisoft after 2014. (Please don't ruin Battlefront, it was my childhood)

Well the newest Fatal Frame for the Wii U is getting localized, and it's supposed to be released in Europe and the US this year.

I was dissapointed by Watch Dogs, it looked really good in the E3 trailer but the final graphics and story where disappointing.

  • TWDG Season 2
    Murdered: Soul Suspect
    SH: Downpour

So.... no one gonna pick the obvious Duke Nukem Forever? :P

Regarding the graphics, I think they downgraded them from because the game was crossgen, and maybe the PS4 and Xbox One weren't as powerful as Ubisoft had expected. AC Unity was next gen only, and I don't think they downgraded the graphics from the E3 demo.

Still, I thought Watch Dogs looked quite nice at night and/or when it was raining.

The story... was pretty underwhelming. Aiden Pierce is a major douchebag, and every other character was pretty forgettable

  • Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. Most of the characters were uninteresting, the level design was pretty bad in a lot of places, and the story and ending were the dumbest they could have been. None of the characters accomplish anything at all, and the ending makes the entire game utterly pointless. I was expecting much better. The only thing they did well was the soundtrack, but that can't save the game.

  • That game... don't even get me started on that game.

  • Never forget this, as well:

  • The Final fantasy 13 series. I could not believe how dreadful that story was. It felt like it was written by a 14 year old that just watched every shitty anime ever. Square use to set the standards for story-telling, but now I can't believe how far they have fallen. It just kept getting worse one game after the other.

  • Watch Dogs

    Aliens Colonial Marines

GTA V (Not bad by any means but not worth the wait and not a GTA game really. I didn't like how it strayed away from it's routes)

    Duke Nukem Forever

    The Walking Dead Season 2

    Beyond 2 Souls

    Destiny

    TWD S2

Almost all the games in 2014 and the half of the games in 2013

  • The game that has disappointed me to my very core, it is Rome 2.

That game...God...What a waste of money.

  • Wasn't that game super glitchy?

  • The (GOD LONG) long linear game sequence aside, I didn't have a bad experience with Final Fantasy 13 when I played it, The graphics was awesome and while the music was weird, some were nice enough.

The story was a mess, but some part of it was good enough to hit me emotionally. It was mostly Hope's story with his father, I am just rather sensitive when it is about a father-son relationship.
