Fun fact thread, post any facts you think are interesting
Sometimes we know an obscure, interesting, or fun fact that very few people actually know about or have heard before. What are some interesting or wildly unknown facts you've heard before that you want to share. I'll start:
I'm sure many people have at one point heard about the plane crash involving the American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd on October 20th, 1977, killing 6 people on board, including both pilots and the band's lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant. What you may not have known was that the same exact plane, a Convair CV-300, and crew was actually investigated by Aerosmith's flight crew for possible use in the summer of that exact year. It was ultimately rejected, despite Steven Tyler and Joe Perry pressuring the crew into renting the plane, because they felt that both the plane and the pilots were not up to standards.

Many people try to take on the challenge of climbing Mount Everest, but some people succumb to the elements and die during the journey. Since it's so high up, corpses can sometimes be too dangerous to retrieve and instead are left there. Over 200 corpses are estimated to be used as way points for climbers, an eerie way to check their progress up the mountain.
The youngest known mother was a Peruvian girl named Lina, who became pregnant at the age of 5. This was possible because of some sort of hormonal disorder that matured her body rapidly- she had fully developed breasts, and had been menstruating since the age of 3. The baby was delivered by Cesarean section and was otherwise healthy. She viewed the child as her little brother, as opposed to a son. No explanation was ever given on how the young girl got pregnant or the identity of the father, but one can assume the worst.
To help increase soldier morale for Southeast Asian soldiers in WWII, Dr. Dwight Saimiri built a replica of a torpedo ship with its own crew of little monkeys in sailor hats. It sailed beside the normal ship, and actually helped to improve the soldiers' spirits.
The chances of dying on a rollercoaster are 1 in 24 million. A large majority of accidents are not from negligence of the ride itself, as is commonly believed. Most deaths are from a rider's non-compliance of rules or a pre-existing medical condition. Many deaths are also of employees during off hours, instead of actual patrons.
