I saw where the wild things are the other day, I love that type of film where on the surface it looks like a average kids film but realy it's quite profound and dark. What films can you recomend to me I like films like-

    The dark crystal,
    Labyrinth,
    Time bandits ,
    Where the wild things are,
    Monster house,
    Nightmare before christmas,

And lots of stuff like that

  • As some other users know, I could go on and on about this :)

The question is if I should start...

  • What would you recommend to me based on my above comment :)

I liked this, it was really good, you can watch it without seeing the series, but I'd recommend the series.

If you liked Nightmare Before Christmas, you might appreciate Coraline.

Hayou Miyazaki's films are brilliant and can be dark but have a lot of substance. Based on what you said, you might like Spirited Away.

I don't really consider this a kid's film but Edward Scissorhands reminds me a lot of Nightmare Before Christmas and that's probably because Tim Burton worked on both films.

Although this movie kind of weirds me out, James and the Giant Peach is like NBC in that it can be creepy and dark, has singing, and is also stop motion. And also had Tim Burton work on it, lol

Just remembered: If you haven't seen it already, I think you might like The Iron Giant!

  • For you.....

As ATR said, Iron Giant is great and a pretty touching one.

Return to Oz is a crappy sequel to the original in my opinion but it's pretty dark despite being "made for kids"

Lord of the Flies is based off a book and the movie isn't as good as the book but it still conveys the messages that the book does.

And if you look at most Disney films, there's actually a pretty dark story behind it.

What would you recommend to me based on my above comment

Well, despite quite a fair bit of hate about it, I watched Interstellar the other day. I thought it was really good (except the ending, which was weird, in my opinion). The special effects in it are amazing. I would recommend it.

  • if you look at most Disney films, there's actually a pretty dark story behind it.

    Completly agree

Well, it's not a movie. It's a TV-Mini series, so I guess it's kinda like a long movie. Anyway, I REALLY recommend this show, If you haven't watched it go watch it right now.

Have you seen Gullermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth?

Amazing film with this sort of storybook drem like vibe but it's really dark and takes place in 1944 Spain, also the make-up for the creatures is absolutely amazing.

  • You have good taste in movies dude. These 2 movies are in my TOP 10 Movies list.

Spirited Away is a really good movie. Wolf Children Ame and Yuki is a really good movie.

  • Gonna recommend Apocalypse Now. It's a classic, and for good reason. One of my all time favorite movies, bar the Original Trilogy of Star Wars.
