    Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation review

    Alt text

It has been a great year for action movies as we've got Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mad Max: Fury Road, and now Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. It has also been a great year for spy movies as we've got: Kingsman, Spy, Mission Impossible, and soon Spectre which I know will be good.

Rogue Nation is the 5th installment to the Mission Impossible franchise, and it stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Renner. The story follows the IMF's mission to reveal the existence of an international crime institution, the Syndicate. However, no one seems to believe them, and views the Syndicate as only a myth. Due to the IMF's reckless behavior, the government has sought to shut down the agency, and has demoted everyone to work with the CIA. Now gone rogue, Ethan Hunt decides to take matters into his own hands, and take down the Syndicate once and for all.

    - The Positives

As always, Tom Cruise is what makes the Mission Impossible movies great. Not just because he's a badass actor, but because of his dedication to the role. If you didn't know, Tom Cruise does a large majority of his own stunts. The guy sure knows how to put on a show. Remember when he scaled the tower in Dubai in MI4? That was all real. Now he's hanging off the side of an airplane midflight! I repeat, this was all real! Respect to you Tom Cruise! Once Cruise appeared on screen, I was completely ecstatic and screamed in my head: "Oh yea here it comes!" Another great performance was by Rebecca Ferguson, who was a complete badass. Her role in the movie is this double agent, so you can't tell whether if she's good or bad. God damn did she do a great job. Whenever she throws down, she fucking throws down. And according to her filmography, she's relatively knew to the industry. I sense a bright future ahead of her. My favorite part of the whole movie was Simon Pegg. The dude is a genuinely good actor. If you've seen The Cornetto Trilogy by Edgar Wright, you can already tell how great of a comic relief he is. I'm also glad he got a lot screen time. We all know we see movies like Mission Impossible for the action. How was it? Fucking badass. From hanging off an airplane midflight, to swimming around a whirlpool, all the way to a badass bike chase scene, the movie's action was incredible. The direction of these scenes were extremely impressive. I think Mad Max was better for obvious reasons, but Rogue Nation satisfied me. Plus, that whirlpool scene was intense. I legitimately thought that Ethan Hunt was in danger for a minute, but then I remembered that he's the main character. The film's story was very good. It's nothing jaw dropping, but it's insanely fun. It has a great espionage aspect because there are lots of twists. One I didn't even see coming.

    - The Negatives

The main villain wasn't that good. I mean, he wasn't bad. He was actually well acted by Sean Harris. He was just very forgettable. You know your villain is weak when you forget about him at some point during the movie. I wish we had another Phillip Seymour Hoffman. :'( The movie is filled with a lot of coincidental moments and cliche's. Of course Hunt manages to find the one bullet from the sniper rifle hanging off something that hasn't fallen out of his reach. There are a lot more but they're pretty spoiler heavy so I won't mention them. But hey, this is Mission Impossible. Of course they're going to have these to keep you entertained. One of the hand to hand combat sequences were pretty weak. I'm talking about the one in the end as it didn't "wow" me on a big level. Still cool, but nothing mesmerizing. It kinda felt like John Wick's ending; where the action didn't look that cool anymore.

Overall: If you're a fan of the Mission Impossible franchise, see this movie. You'll like or maybe even love it for its intense action sequences, great acting, comic relief, and cool espionage story. Or you may think those aspects of the movie were weak in your eyes. The great thing about this franchise is that they constantly add more to entertain us. What else could Tom Cruise do? The final verdict for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is...

    Grade: A

If you've seen Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, then tell me what you thought of it. :)

  • I've wanted to see Southpaw for a long time but haven't gone around to it though, has anyone here seen it and what are your opinions on it?

  • No, I wanted to see it too. I've seen some reviews saying it was good. It was more or less mixed tho, but still on the positive side.

  • This is old news, but I feel like sharing it.

The actors from The Raid 2 are going to be working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Holy shi- YES. Whether they're going to play a small role, or doing the fight choreography, they're going to add a bit of action magic into the movie. Imagine light saber battles in the style of The Raid. :) It's beautiful...

  • Good review.

With the villain, he seemed like he had potential but they never expanded on that but I feel like he was far better than the main one in the 4th. Also, they didn't mention what the wife's status was so it was kind of awkward between Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson because I was wondering "Are they gonna hookup or not.....Where's The wife? They at least mentioned and showed her at the end of the 4th".

Like other action movies, it has flaws but it's really enjoyable and I walked out if the theater pretty happy :)

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation review It has been a great year for action movies as we've got Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mad Max

  • Yea, the only reason why we come to movies like Mission Impossible is for its entertaining action. The movie does need to have a plausible story, and a bit of realism so it doesn't throw you off. This is why I absolutely loved The Raid 2. :)

  • Supposedly the new Fantastic Four movie was god awful. Which is probably why I'm gonna see it this weekend.

  • I never trust reviews or honestly, give a shit about them. Most of the movies/games I love don't get the best reviews, but I still enjoy the shit out of them. Then again, I don't know if that just says I have a crappy taste in stuff or what lmao.

And I wanna see that too I love how the X-Men universe is gonna be expanding more now with this and (fuck yeah) Deadpool movie next year. Hopefully they can convince Hugh Jackman not hang up the claws after the second Wolverine movie and stick around for some possible crossovers.

I saw new movies, i was gonna edit my other comment and put the new movies i watched on there, but i thought it be better to just make a new comment.

    Movies i seen so far:
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (very good)
    Jurassic World (LOVED IT)
Ant man (I really liked this movie, it was different and very funny, somehow i liked this one better than The Avengers. Im suprised this movie turned out to be awesome)
Pixels (i thought it was...ok, is not the best i seen so far, but is ok)

    Movies planning on watching:
    Mission impossible: The new one.
Fantastic 4 (Ill have to rewatch the previous movies first, is been so long XD)
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!)

I also can not wait for Batman Vs Superman. I know is coming out 2016 and this is a 2015 thread, but i can't help it. I want to see this badly!

  • The new Fantastic Four is a reboot, you won't have to rewatch the original movies first. Well, I guess you can if you want to but there's no need. And same, I'm really hyped for BvS too!

Deadpool looks great, but I'm still a bit more hyped for BvS and SS. This looks like it'll be far better than Civil War though, if they make it really childish and immature and basically all around trash like Age of Ultron was.

Although I'm not a humongous comic book movie nerd, I am extremely excited for B vs. S. The hype is fucking real!

  • I've got a lot of catching up to do, but as far as summer movies...

Inside Out was pretty awesome. All the subtext in the psychology of emotions and how our thoughts work was really fun to watch, and even profound at times.

Jurassic World...the usual lazy flaws in a bloated action sequel, but some of the action scenes were so cool I didn't care.

Same San Andreas, which was completely ridiculous, but fun watching the city fall apart with The Rock trying to save it.

  • Reviews are only useful if you can find a critic who more or less shares your tastes.

As bad as this movie was, I don't believe it's one of the worst superhero movies like everyone else does. I give it like a 2.5/10.

  • So I went and saw it and it's actually one of those movies that got worse the more I thought about it. At first when I finished watching it, I thought to myself, "Okay, that was bad, but I don't really understand why people are already considering it one of the worst comic book movies out there." Then as I let it sink in and the more I thought about all the bullshit happening, I thought to myself, "You know what? This movie actually really blows." My advice: don't waste your time with this movie.

Didn't see it because I called that it would be shit and it seems like I was right.

  • is it really that fucking bad?? i hearing that is one of the worst things to happen to "marvel"

i didnt really like the originals either.

  • I kinda liked Rise of the Silver Surfer. The 2005 version is shit and supposedly the straight-to-TV 90's version is shit.
