A cruel truth or a comforting lie? [strangely not about the plot of ep 4]

I wanted to see some reactions to the latest episode of TFTB. So I looked it up and sadly Minx, Markiplier, Jack, and Pewds aren't playing it so I watched Crys to see his reaction to certain things. At the end the "comparison" screen popped up and he said basically that he got his copy of episode 4 before everyone else did. Which is why the screen was blank because noone to compare it to. Since he was also offline at the time he could have merely said that since he was offline the game couldnt compare his choices to others. But instead he accidentally revealed his Semi Elitist Advantage of getting it before everyone else does. And that I find ...not distressing so much as Annoying. Would you rather know there's three release dates.with the earliest being famous youtubers or would you like to believe they get their episodes with the rest of us? I know if my channel picks up i'll never play games before other people get to. And with TTG games i wont do LPs for several weeks so I won't really spoil anything. But that's just me how do you weigh in on it?

  • I don't care if famous gaming youtubers get their copies earlier than the rest as long as they don't spoil anything through their title or thumbnail and upload the video once the game is released

  • Yeah they usually aren't allowed to upload until the game gets released; it's just so they can get their recording done early.

  • I don't think big YouTubers like Pewds play any Telltalle series unless every episode has already been released.

    However, I could be wrong.

I don't believe he's played any Borderlands games either, so maybe he's simply not interested?

The youtubers get press keys along with press sites like IGN, Gamespot and other review sites and they only get them a few days before release, there is no real advantage to this apart from them being able to get their videos ready before release.

He played The Walking Dead both Season 1, 400 Days and Season 2. All while waiting for the episodes to come out. He also said he played Telltale's Back to the Future game, but he didn't film it.

  • I'm not bothered by it. I think the only reason he could play it beforehand was because he tweeted that he wouldn't be able to play Ep 4 for a while after its release. I figure TellTale must have noticed and given him a copy of the episode early. After all, his playthrough is probably one of the most popular ones on youtube, so...

  • Markiplier isn't interested in episodic game period.

But pewds i know played life is strange with each episode but its not ttg so your point still stands it's fun to compare his, minx, jacks, and my reactions to them but i dont usually watch unless there is something really traumatic and i want to see if im alone. Jack for example seems to be the only anti euthanasia youtuber. Which was interesting. Minx however seems to prefer dark games and weird games to comedy so that would explain her avoidance.

  • I just prefer to not know that the big guys get an advantage. Although if Alien Isolation is anything to judge by at least us little youtubers don't have to have certain restriction in place like "you can only show this much of the game untill this date" TTG seems far too cool to impost such restrictions. my annoyed rate that they get them is at ten percent. my annoyed rate at KNOWING they get them early is sixty percent unless i have no migraine then it's forty percent.

  • Good for TTG in that case. I mean i dont like knowing he gets an early copy more then i dont like him getting an early copy. you know what i mean?

    Jealousy. Humanities most ridiculous trait.....

enter image description here enter image description here

  • The videogame press always gets an review copy months before the release dates so they can get their articles done and released - which gives the game publicity - free advertisement. Its the same for YouTubers! Just be happy that you get to enjoy a good game and dont think about that others could play it before you...

  • They're all unfunny and talentless. Why do you want them to play them?

  • Aaaaand TWAU.

Youtubers are considered to be press therefore they are given copies to play before anyone else but are given embargo's to ensure that they do not upload videos or publish reviews on games before the actual release date. They get them the same time as reviewers, journalists, etc, they do not get copies earlier than anyone else.. There is nothing really to get angry about. The only difference is that they get to play the games earlier then most people. It's not like they're going around and spoiling stuff or bragging about it. The literal only thing they can say about it is that they played it.

Also, how is Cry considered elitist? You're acting like he was trying to hide it. He had already said on Twitter the day before the actual release that he had received an early copy.

Uh... what? Semi-elitist advantage? Letspalyes put a lot of effort into making their videos, they spend a lot of money and time doing so, especially in the beginning of their career. Hating on them because they get some games a couple of days earlier is just... Sorry, but this is really childish. If you want to blame someone there, blame the devs or the publishers. It's their way of promoting a game and it benefits them alone.

Or how about not blaming anyone since it´s literally not effecting anyones life negatively in any shape or form?

  • I suppose that's also an option. Just... if you're absolutely need to blame someone, at least blame those who's responsible for it.

  • youtubers are the press and are more relevant than normal press, and it is normal practice for press to get early copies.

some guy that has a video games blog that nobody reads isn't going to get a copy early and neither are small youtubers.

the whole point of press copies is that the reviews/let's plays can come out when the game is released because that is when game companies want the most exposure for the game, also as a youtuber it would be advantageous for you to release your video as soon as it comes out because else people may have already watched a let's play about it by the time you have played, edited and uploaded it.

to be honest you just sound jealous, but are trying to disguise it as some kind of principled anti establishment response

  • As long as they don't spoil anything for me I'm okay with that.

  • I don't think they're all unfunny and talentless. But I want to watch them the same reason i'd watch you i dont really have friends to share reactions with.

  • Considering I beat the game twice before even thinking to look up anyone elses playthroughs it's more it's really as my title says. • Completely ridiculous would be me comparing it when an eighty year old granny is being stripsearched while Ima Guncaryyin Rapper walks through security with a tsa escort and a glass of bubbly. Since one/two systems gets the game a day early to others and youtubers getting the game a day earlier then that isn't much is only slightly ridiculous.

Its a nonsensical rant that completely lacks any logical coherence.

anyway, they say ignorance is bliss, but i would choose being better informed over blissful ignorance 100% of the time.

if you are only just finding out about press copies of games right now, you clearly chose blissful ignorance too many times, maybe it is time to start living in the real world.
