I didn't buy Until Dawn. I don't like horror, I didn't know much about it before release, and I just can't afford the price to be honest. I watched a live stream just after release though, and I really enjoyed it. I kind of regret not ignoring the game and getting it down the line when it's cheaper, but if I hadn't watched the stream I wouldn't even be interested in the first place. I'm sure there are a lot of people who did the same thing, so I hope it sells well because the devs deserve it.
I lack a PS4 but I'm watching a playthrough. The game takes QUITE a while to kick into gear but once it does HOLY SHIT it's intense. I haven… more't seen the whole game yet (The person I'm watching is on Chapter 6), but man does it look intense considering that if you fuck up a QTE a character could just drop dead. I'm curious though. Without spoiling the game, Is it really possible to save every single character? (excluding the prologue character)

Save in terms of Josh is more 'kept alive' since he DIDNT die. And the achivement 'They all lived' (save all eight main characters) will only work if hes wendigo. So hes still ALIVE and that technically means he was saved.
You managed to get the one josh death? Or did he become a wendigo beacuse if he did you DID save him. Thats his 'living' ending. Also how did you kill Ashley did you open the door?

Anyhow, it seems like it's one of the few games that will have choices that matter in terms of branching. So, hopefully it delivers, though I'm unsure I believe the 'hundreds of endings' talk and such. Certainly when it comes to different endings and not just slightly different permutations with a character present and one not.
One thing I am curious about though is how the butterfly effect menu interface works. I've found some brief footage of it, but not enough to really see how it works.
(Btw, hopefully people are aware the game saves automatically constantly and there's only one save with no rewind. Or well, I believe there is a rewind, but it's only unlocked once you reach one of the endings. It's kind of a neat design decision, forcing you to live with the choices as anyone can die or all can live)

This is incase you take it upon yourself to save every single one of the main characters. This will be very easy for some characters and nearly imposible for others. So ill go from easiest to hardest. Needless to say this will contain huge spoilers.
Sam: Hands down the easiest character to save (with one exception). She can only die in the last chapter if you move or at any moment chose run. And obviously if you blow up the house.
Mike: Also super easy. Shoot the gas cans whenever you can at the sanitorium. After that he can only die if Sam dosen't save him or if either of the two blow up the house before they leave.
Josh : He only dies if you miss Hannah's diary right before you find him. If you do he'll recognize Hannah and she will remember him in which case she will spare him and leave him in a cave till he eats Victor's corpse and becomes a wendigo ( which is the only way for him to live) For anyone curious if you don't read that page she smashes his face.
Ashley: When you hear Jessicas scream STAY WITH THE GROUP. And if you don't do not open the trapdoor. That is a wendigo. Jessica even if shes still alive is on the other side of the mountain.
Chris: In the death trap make sure to make him shoot HIMSELF or not shoot at all. Ashley will not let him into the cabin if he tries to shoot her. Also do not miss that one QTE and ALWAYS shoot the wendigo. And make sure he stays with the group. If you let him stayback he dies.
Emily: Ok she is hard. When she is stuck in the mines do not fail ANY of her QTE's (one fail is the minimum after that it's over). And don't let Mike shoot her (Wendigos are not zombies)
Matt: Very hard and tricky. To save Matt dissagree with Emily's plan. Then Save Emily from almost falling in that one QTE (she will be nice then). Then do nothing when they give you the option to attack that one deer who stopped. Turn on the power for the radio tower FIRST. THEN give him the flare. If you followed the past instructions he won't shoot it off. Then you can either save Emily or not (either way she dosent die). If you chose not to save her then you are safe. If you chose to save her you are captured by a wendigo. Make sure you TURNED ON THE RADIO POWER FIRST so he will still have the flare. Then shoot it at the wendigo. If you save Jesica the two will have a section in the last chapter. When the wendigo comes HIDE. Do not move and DO NOT FAIL THAT ONE QTE. Then hide WITH Jess. If you leave her it's insta death.
Jessica: The hardest character to save in Untill dawn. Make sure that Mike picks ALL the quick routes. Do not fail any QTE's especially the slide down one. Then follow the instuctions i left for Matt. Then she lives.
So that is all you need to save EVERY one of the main eight characters.

I was kinda thinking more of replacing Mike with Josh at the end, so he kinda had some sort of redemption(where he blows himself up). It just kinda feels weird that Josh never got any redemption for what he did to his friends and how he felt about his sisters deaths. I don't know, I guess his "surviving" ending works... but its sad
Ashley I found very dull, Josh is a psycho, Mike is a classic horrible lying selfish two timing jock type, at the same time as being the typical 2000s/2010s protagonist which made him duller. Oh, and he's homophobic, so yeah, not my fave.
Also Emily showed remorse for her actions which is more than can be said for most of the group.

Yeah, I gave the flare gun to Matt, so for me everyone survived.
Yeah. On my second run, I got everyone to live.
On my first run, only three people lived.

Only thing I disliked about Sam, was that she wasn't really humorous.

However, if you say your gonna save Ashley, he feels betrayed and treats Chris like shit.

The bonus chapter really works and it lets you 3 collectibles and way more interactions between to characters early on. It was worth it.

I think not. And no, if the trapdoor is not open he will escape even if the house blows up he is the first one to leave.

Chris, Sam, and Ashley. Matt's definitely an honorable mention for breaking the stereotypical jock. Sam and Jess had the most powerful epilogue imo
