Hooray! We don't suck!
We aren't nearly as bad as the 2013 batch of tweens and early teens whining and threatening Telltale at literally EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PAGE! Some guy even started a petition. I was bored so I snooped through the TWD S2 Release date threads and Jesus christ people were AWFUL! I was thinking "oh it's going to be fun to go back and look at all the older comments."...It's not fun...It fucking hurts. I realize we have a couple of rotten eggs here on the forums, but what I'm trying to say is YAY we aren't awful pieces of shit (on release date threads at least).

HOORAY!
Those posts in that link gave me cancer.
Ate you kidding me? You should have been here 10 years ago. Nothing but constant whining about Telltale selling out, predicting its death, and threatening to abandon ship for the Double Fine forums.
There's still a lot of cringe here, too.
When they were just starting with Bone? Seriously? Man people are assholes.
This place has been toxic since September 2013. I loved the fandom that Walking Dead S1 brought in.
All S2 brought in was a slew of teenagers and cancerous users.
Largely true. I joined right after A House Divided; it was pretty friendly, though images were quickly turned off due to some nasty Clem porn and the Cluke shippers were coming out of the woodwork. It felt like things got super toxic right after episode 3 came out. . It turned into almost a completely different forum to me, certainly much less friendly. Sooooo I stayed mostly in off-topic and kept my head down. I gotta say I like the community much more since Tales and GOT came out.
Of course, I was 21 when I joined, so that might've had something to do with it.
The teenagers weren't all bad, I ran into some great people.
That... contradicts my experiences, to put it mildly.
Large scale toxicity started with The Walking Dead Season 1, fairly immediately, and simply exploded into an unprecedented shitstorm (never seen before or after) when episode 2 ran late.
Out of 11 mods in 2012, 9 wouldn't even set foot in TWD forums because of this.
I remember waiting for it, I was still kind of lurking back then. That's when the mood began to change around here. I always hated it when people used the words "flagship franchise" with TWD as a way to elevate it to something more special.
Oh god! I remember those times, I wasn't even a member yet... shivers
We don't suck as much as we used to at least, but the TFTBL forum was pretty horrid pre-episode 2. Also I remember that thread, it was actually kind of dank from time to time, definitely helped me with waiting for episode 2 of TWD S2 :P
Ironically enough - for as much as an active member as I am now, I really didn't post that much prior to becoming a mod around the same time that a bunch of people joined the forums around Walking Dead: Season 2. Prior to posting frequently in 2013, I lightly lurked the forums in 2009/2010 and then joined sometime around 2011. I became a Mod sometime in December 2013 shortly before the launch of Walking Dead: Season 2, and... let's just say that was one way to hit the ground running as a mod.
We Didn't Start the Fire
Having never before been on the other side of the curtain, my first episode launch as a mod was Walking Dead: Episode 201, and that one was a doozy. On top of the astronomical levels of hype and excitement from people being excited to play Season 2 for the first time, Telltale also had some server issues for a few hours from all the traffic, which led to even more people coming to the forums to ask or complain about why they couldn't play Episode 201.
Meanwhile, Wolf Among Us emerged a few months before Walking Dead, taking on the role of the underdog of the two from it's eccentric premise. Episode 2 of Wolf Among Us had been delayed by a few months, which led to even more controversy on the forums. Despite the four month delay for Wolf and the quicker releases for Walking Dead: Season 2 compared to Wolf, the passionate teens on the Walking Dead forums collectively pooled together to give nuanced and well-articulated arguments about why Telltale shouldn't work on Wolf Among Us, citing their real world experiences in professional video game development and company management, while also expressing impalpable excitement that Telltale was interested in something that wasn't Walking Dead.
Then, in the year of our lord 2014, our savior and messiah Kenny returned in Walking Dead: Season 2 - A House Divided (shoot, forgot the spoiler warning!). In the heat of fervent speculation after that tantalizing teaser from the last episode, speculation of who Clementine had thought was dead had raged on the forums. People debated if it was Kenny, Lilly, Molly, or some other character who would return (or if Lee had survived the last Season by missing the bullet and/or finding a cure). Once I played the episode, I remember fearing that the forums would be spammed with "KENNY CONFIRMED FOR SEASON 2" gifs, but thankfully, things weren't as crazy as I'd imagined they would be.
Even though I've only been a mod for a little over a year and a half, I've seen some pretty crazy moments on the forums with various ups and downs, but I've also definitely gotten some good times out of it too. It's been really fun to get to contribute towards something I love and try to make it even better, which is what brings me back here each day. I'd been a fan of Telltale for a good few years before Walking Dead, and seeing Telltale rise from the underdog to something much more has been extremely exciting to watch as a long time fan. When I played Telltale's smaller titles like Sam and Max, Wallace and Gromit, Monkey Island, etc, I'd never thought I'd see the day where Telltale would be a household name and attract an audience this large and diverse. Likewise, it's cool that I can now even talk about Telltale with friends in person, whereas beforehand, Telltale was a lot more niche.
If someone did a We Didn't Start The Fire TellTale forum edition I would stand up and clap for ages.
For a second there I thought you said friends in prison.
[Phew! He almost found out!]
Were the 2 who did Darth Marsden and I? We were brought in to help with the unruliness, so we felt we had to go to that section of the forums. But we really didn't like it. -_-
But, I've got to say that regardless of when the toxicity started, it definitely is better here now (and hopefully will stay that way).
I've seen worse, so, so much worse...
Telltale really hit a bump there. This is one of the flaws of managing two games at the same time. Early 2014 and on proved very sloppy for them with how bad the release dates were for Smoking Mirrors and A House Divided were. A House Divided was still one of my favorite episodes though with only it's length and some minor things I would have changed
I love We Didn't Start the Fire.
I greatly enjoyed A House Divided as well. Good episode.
I joined a bit before All That Remains came out, but lurked at about from about the time 400 Days came out, and it was fine. Then, everyone kind of just got... weird. And then Cluke happened and it made me wish my name wasn't Lexie.
