The Nakayama Drive. Containing Handsome Jack AI or something else?

Noone on Hyperion .... hell noone in Borderlands seems as heavily modified as Rhys [with the exception of wilhelm and possibly gaige/hammerlock] So Rhys just happens to end up Pandora, Where he "happens" to find a drive containing an powerful Ai which then uploads itself into his head. [not just his eye his brain has to be partially augmented] Given all these factors one hast to wonder just how much of Handsome Jack was in the Drive and how much was already inside Rhys....

And also how did he lose his eye and arm if he's never been on Pandora before?

  • Rhys sacrificed his arm for Hyperion. If you didn't know, It's impossible to rule Hyperion without changing an organ out with some echo robot stuff. Even Vasquez has a robot little finger.
And Jack didn't have to because he is handsome jack.

  • According to the wiki he got a bonus from the eridium mine deal [mentioned in ep 1] and used it to get the echoeye. But Hyperion isn't quite Geneco.

  • Off topic, but I wonder if Vasquez's pinkie upgrade actually does anything useful that would warrant it's implementation, or if he legitimately lost his finger somehow...

  • Things get even more conspiracy-theory laden when you realise the 'jack' on Jack's chair fits perfectly in Rhys' port...

Alternatively, the Hyperion Drives could normally be intended to be plugged into computers or other kind of devices, and Nakayama was going to upload Jack into the system that way (I mean, the drives obviously go into something other than one guy's brain, because why else would they have them, and why else would Vaughn immediately know what it was) - so maybe it was just a crazy coincidence that Rhys happened to have a port and happened to be stupid/reckless enough to plug it directly into his brain?

  • Idk, Maybe it's an USB thing, like Rhys has in the side of his head.

  • is this sacrifices thing actually confirmed? Where can I read more about this?

  • I'm pretty sure this is all we have:

  • In episode 3, when the gang just arrived at the dome. Rhys can scan loader bot, and it says something about "Those who change one of their organs gets to do whatever they want" at Hyperion of course . Idk if you have to trust jack or fiona in ep 2.

    fair enough. Thanks.

  • Yeah, that was my train of thought as well. I wouldn't think too much about the Jack port being a good fit.

I'm just gonna assume it's a semi-universal thing, like our usb drives, or else there's too much suspension of disbelief...

  • If he was it'd be a bit surprising but eh. I noticed that fiona was like "We born from the air and then raised by felix, never had parents before felix." I was always curious was it pandoran wildlife , hyperion, or pandoran wildlife that killed them. Assuming Vallory isn't actually their mom and just sorta abandoned them to make them tough.Maybe Vallory and Felix are their real parents. Which makes August and Sasha dating kinda awkward. But Rhys being Jack's son there's a thought..

WHAT IF: Rhys is Jacks son?! DUH DUH DUUHHHH

  • true but one would think an I.D. drive wouldn't have an A.I. programmed into it.

  • Could be that the AI was in Rhys head and Rhys was intended for promotion but when the "trigger" was lost they wrote it off as a lost cause until Rhys "Just happened to find the key" and activated the A.I inside him

then they decide that they don't care either way, since they are crazy already anyway, so incest wouldn't really add much to the madness.

Rhys probably got his head-port specifically designed to fit any and all types of Hyperion drives

I mean, if he got that upgrade to get ahead on the Hyperion ladder, he'd definitely want to make sure he can access anything and everything Hyperion-related if the situation called for it, right?

  • heck even if jack's usb was unique it'd still make sense that he'd get it because if he ever saw jacks office he'd want to be able to plug into jacks equipment when he became the new ceo one day.
