Think why it's easier for arguments to escalate online, is because of the anonymity.
Being able to hide behind a computer screen, and a username, people don't have to face each other in person, so they're more apt to start becoming uncivil, because they do not have the face the consequences that would come with being that way to someone's face.

'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results'.
Those types of threads normally devolve very quickly into people just being rude and horrible to others, often just to be controversial i.e. trolling, which isn't really what Telltale wants to happen on their forum, I'm sure. If you desperately need to express some opinion that involves being rude to specific people or groups then take it to a forum like reddit.
Reddit has proved to me that unrestricted free speech is a terrible idea. There was one guy who went to /r/worldnews (one of the top 10 subreddits), posted xenophobic quotes from Hitler, attributed them to "a great philospher," and was widely upvoted.
The only subreddits worth a damn are the heavily moderated ones or the ones that are small enough to not attract trolls and terrible people with an agenda.

I have been doing that since I first got here . Doing so has gotten me banned 3 times my friend .
Four if you count the time the modder unbanned my 7 day leave and extended it for 30 days .

I've been meaning to post this... My other complaint is that there is a person, who shall remain nameless per forum guidelines, who I consider a friend who was banned, and I don't even have any way to tell if it's permanent or not. Even if it wasn't, I think the multiple bans really affected him, and he might not come back even when it's over. Granted, he had been a bit more abrasive in recent days, but, as another person who has their own mental issues, we all have our ins and outs, and jumping on top of us during the outs doesn't help.

Yup, this is pretty much what has happened in several threads up until now.
Unfortunately, when we ask people to behave and try to leave warnings, somebody usually ends up derailing the thread anyways and we start back at step 1. As I said earlier, if you guys want threads like that to stay up but with stricter moderation and increased bans for personal attacks/arguments/offensive comments, we can take that into consideration.

I personally don't see it that way at all, and certainly not to the degree of people being "rude and horrible to others" just to be controversial. People are way too sensitive over certain topics and opinions. Since pretty much day one of me joining this community, I have seen people crying over some sort of negative atmosphere, when really, I haven't ever noticed anything out of the ordinary. I have seen threads locked, even deleted, for almost no reason other than the fact that various forum users weren't happy with the general subject matter of the thread/ didn't agree with the stance, and a mod happened to have the same mindset. This is why we have had users confused over why threads have been closed. In my opinion, the "Telltale Community" section of the forum seems a little over censored at this point.

Speaking for myself, I remember that yes my Unpopular Opinion thread was a risky venture, do to it's predecessor, which somebody else posted.
I thought to myself: Surely such a thread can exist, as long it is posted with great care, meaning as long as the content is stated in a very diplomatic and tactful way.
Thus I posted it, giving serious consideration to how I worded everything.
I also stated that I would add my own unpopular opinions later.
It wasn't unit I did, that the thread was closed.
Even though I tried to state my opinions in a truthful, yet respectful manner, apparently that wasn't good enough.
It seems that in this highly charged environment where political correctness is the order of the day, some opinions, no matter how they are stated, are flat-out unacceptable, as far as political correctness is unconcerned.
Back in the day, is that we never had to put up with political correctness before, there was no law saying we had to.
But once we as a nation accept it, which we've done, that it becomes law.
They start making laws like that.
It's gotten to the point where nobody can have their own opinions anymore.
Look at how much heat former porn star Jenna Jameson is receiving for her comments about Israel!
Hollywood is saturated with politically correct people.
In fact, Hannity has had stars approach him and tell them they're conservative.
Notice what how they answered him, which is at the end of this video clip.

I wasn't talking about the right to free speech. I was only saying that people are over sensitive to opinions that differ from their own, especially so in the case of "controversial" subjects. And yes, removing certain opinions/ content, or stopping that content from even being expressed in the first place, is definitely censorship. That's what censorship is.
We aren't removing posts with the intention of censorship. People can say their opinions if they keep discussion civil or at least avoid personal attacks, bigotry, etc. Most of the time when we flag posts, it's because some portion of people get carried away with their argument and resort to personal attacks that derail the thread - not because we don't want people discussing anything besides video games.

I know you were joking, but just to give a serious response, we don't have a problem with people discussing social issues or anything serious that isn't about video games.
We just don't want people derailing threads with personal attacks over arguments, and we don't want people posting racist/homophobic/otherwise hateful comments. Being offended because of somebody having another opinion is vastly different from being offended because somebody personally attacked you, and we focus mostly on keeping the latter from happening. When we flag posts, it is because people got carried away with their arguments and derailed the discussion into something worse with personal insults, bigoted posts, etc. People can disagree with each other in a civil, constructive manner that doesn't derail threads, resort to personal attacks, or come off as bigoted/hateful/discriminatory.
In terms of keeping things civil, the back and forth debates that I have seen are typically reasonably so. Again, I really think people are a little over sensitive, especially in the case of controversial subjects. Also in regards to keeping things civil, there seems to be a double standard. It seems that threads outside of the "Telltale Talk" section of the forum do not get closed due to someone randomly expressing themselves in a less than civil sort of way. Instead of locking down threads in this section at the first sight of someone getting irritated, maybe those particular users should simply get dealt with 1on1 for breaking the rules of the forum. Why should everyone else have to suffer the consequences of someone stepping over the line? I'm obviously not a moderator, but personally I think it's going a little far to shut a thread down just completely out of the blue, without warning, because a couple of people debatably got a little over heated. On top of that, someone could easily intentionally get a thread closed if they don't like the content of said thread, simply by intentionally picking an argument that they believe could lead to the closing of the thread.
As for bigotry, I think people are far too quick to use that label. Just as a random example, some people see being against transgender "rights" as bigotry, when that is not necessarily the case. I feel like personal feelings factor into this a little too much, and it's not really seen in an objective light. In general, I think we have a decent group of people in this community, regardless of what their personal views might be on certain controversial subjects. We don't have a group of people trying to push an intolerant or discriminatory agenda, and I think certain users in question should be allowed to express their own opinions without being labeled as "bigots".

That generally happens when a very large portion of the thread is already derailed beyond the point of being fixable, or if it frequently causes problems from a number of different people, as opposed to us being able to keep civil by just handling one or two arguments.
Also in regards to keeping things civil, there seems to be a double standard. It seems that threads outside of the "Telltale Talk" section of the forum do not get closed due to someone randomly expressing themselves in a less than civil sort of way.
If that happens, you can flag those posts and we will try to handle it. It usually turns out that debates about social issues attract a more passionate turn out than discussing a Telltale story, so that's probably why it seems like we focus more on threads like those.

I could sort of agree with that.. but it really just has not been the case of what has been happening in my opinion. It has almost always been a matter of one or two people going debatably overboard, from what I have seen (I say debatably, because it honestly has never seemed to be that bad). Its very rare that a thread is just an all out hopeless mess. I understand as moderators you guys have to make judgement calls on these things, but I think a lot of us would agree that at times, you have seemed to be a little trigger happy. People have been mentioning it for a reason. And again, with how things have been enforced lately, it is extremely easy for someone to intentionally derail a thread in order to get it closed. As an example, near the end of the summer, I had a thread closed on me while I was discussing, simply because a couple of people had collectively posted two whole whopping memes/GIFs on the thread, and apparently that was enough to justify a closing of the thread due to it supposedly being "derailed", disregarding the fact that there was good (and important in my opinion) discussion going on.
To me, it was pretty apparent that the thread was actually closed because a moderator did not like the point of view that I was expressing, even though both sides were being civil. Also, it was done without warning, which again, I think could probably do with some change. If a thread is starting to veer a little away from where a mod thinks the discussion should be, I think they should simply say so instead of just pulling the plug.
To add here, my goal is not to criticize just to criticize or anything, it would just be nice if the moderators could take these things into consideration, and understand where people such as myself are coming from.
Why should everyone else have to suffer the consequences of someone stepping over the line?

Hmm, sounds odd. I don't know the context of that thread, so I can't speak too much, but maybe that was from one of the newer mods trying to learn the ropes of when to lock threads or figure out the mod tools? I'd have to check it out to see why it was locked.

In looking back at that, I guess @Green613 and I sort of had a really stupid (seriously, I have no idea why either one of us cared) side conversation going on over whether or not one my posts was clear enough, but other than that, the thread was more than fine. The side conversation could have easily been stopped if it was actually some sort of big distraction or something, and it really wasn't. Anyway, the excuse given was that the thread was being derailed into a "jokes and memes" thread, when that wasn't really happening, given that the topic was actively being discussed, despite a couple of people making "grab your popcorn" jokes. We have had threads closed out of nowhere like that, and again, I personally think it could be handled a tad differently to be fair to everyone who may want to be engaged in the discussion.
As another example, the latest "Unpopular Opinions" thread seemed to get thrown off in terms of civility because of one certain user who has had multiple problems with being respectable in the past. Again, I don't think that it's very fair that one person should be able to sink an entire thread.

Fair enough. And again, I'm not really trying to be critical or anything. Just tossing my two cents out there. Glad to know that you're open to the feedback.

Hmm, sounds odd. I don't know the context of that thread, so I can't speak too much, but maybe that was from one of the newer mods trying to learn the ropes of when to lock threads or figure out the mod tools? I'd have to check it out to see why it was locked.
We're always open to feedback. There are occasions where we can't always explain our reasons for doing certain things for privacy reasons, but again, I'm open to hearing what you guys have to say.

Wish I could like this more than once. Well said.
Thank you, Blind. All I want is for this forum to just disagree and debate in a civilized manner.
It's an even bigger shame that political correctness is being used to censor dissenting opinions today. Know who else did that? The Nazi party.
