What do you think are the Greatest Stories Ever Told?
The human race has come pretty far in terms of story telling. We've gotten to the point where Arthur Fonzarelli water-skied over a shark! And being fans of Telltale Games, I'd assume that everybody here loves a good story.
But in terms of story, what do you think are the greatest tales ever told? It could be a TV series, a novel, a legend, a movie, and of course a video game.
I've always loved the classic stories of good vs evil and coming of age, so I'd have to go with things such as:
- Star Wars (The story of Anakin Skywalker from 1-6 in particular)
- The Book of Exodus (Not debating whether it's true or not, and I'm not religious, but I've always loved the story of Moses)
- Tales From the Borderlands
- The Walking Dead (All forms)
- Stephen King's The Dark Tower & The Green Mile
- The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Once Upon a Time in the West
- The short stories Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed and To Serve Man
- Just about all of The Legend of Zelda series

Tales from the Borderlands
Since I really like the Borderlands series I'm going to exclude it so next on my list is probably the Dead Rising series

I have a big list, but I will mention three since it is easier that way.
Breaking Bad, damn that was good.

Death Note
Yu-Gi-Oh Season Zero (the whole card game thing used to be just fictional side attraction back then and wasn't supposed to be the main focus...)
Star Trek series episodes that are related heavily to Borg presence. It's the one enemy that can't be negotiated with, which goes against everything Starfleet stands for (they are forced to violent solutions against them, like traditional warfare.) Also episodes that are related to Q.
Oh yes, please don't shoot me but I gotta mention Star Wars Episodes 1-6. Yes, I dare to like even Episodes 1-3. I even like Jar Jar Binks and not see him as something that ruins the story. Even if they went overboard with their CGI, they are still damn good in my opinion.
This might be just delusional talking but Final Fantasy VII's story is quite something. Heck, you can relate many of its themes to our nowadays society with ruining/exploiting the environment just to profit more without caring of the long term effects. Although, our societies are kind of fighting and pulling back from that. At least we don't power our power plants with human souls/spirits. Whatever the game is insanely popular due it's just that good or because it was one of the first 3D RPG games that gamers played, it still deserves its own remake.
I totally agree with the special edition releases of Return of the Jedi's ending. With the newer score and the shots of Coruscant and Tatooine and all the other places celebrating, it makes it feel like much more of a triumph and victory in the end.
Another thing, I also prefer Old Anakin instead of young Anakin appearing as a force ghost. I know it all come down to preference, but that was the ending I saw and loved as a kid and that is the version I prefer.
I absolutely love the Warcraft War of the Ancients Trilogy. The characters are brilliant and pretty complex. The substory of Brox is amazing. The story in general is gripping. It's based around a war, obviously, and the battle sequences are intriguing and they do a wondeful job of making you feel the horror or the losing battles, the pleasure of fending off the enemy during the winning ones, and the futility of all of them. While knowledge of the universe is helpful for reading the book I still highly suggest it to anyone that enjoys fantasy/war stories.
Bioshock/Bioshock Infinite.
Life of Jesus. Walking on water, evicting demons, generous wine lover, betrayal, coming back from the dead. What a story.
10/10 would ascend again.

Just to name a few: Forrest Gump, Robinson Crusoe, The Wizard Of Oz, The Lord Of The Rings, The Life of Moses.
My favourite story in the bible is the one where Jesus fights the pirates.
Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris, so probably The Hunchback of Notre-Dame for most of you, peasants, just don't confuse it with the Disney version.
An epic story where pretty much every main character ends up dead after having all their dreams crushed before their very eyes. Except for that one jerk, Phoebus. If you only know the cutesy Disney movie, go read the original, it's deliciously soul-wrenching.

Discworld, Watchmen, LXG, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.
Um... Hamlet? Moby Dick, and it's movie adaptation, Wrath of Khan :P
Some TNG. Battlestar Galactica, to date, is my absolute favorite TV show of all time and one of the most interesting stories I have come across thus far.
That's what immediately comes to mind. I don't want to start a fight or be mean, but a lot of these stories mentioned thus far are pretty... meh, in comparison. In my opinion, of course.
FFVII is nice but VI and Chrono Trigger always had way more of an impact on me. FFVII is a little too light on subtlety for my taste.
The Dark Tower is my favorite book series, so I've heard about Discworld a bit because they're both in a fantasy-like setting. Aren't there a lot of books in the series? Because I'm still recovering from the Dark Tower saga's length!
There are but they are all very stand alone. Any Discworld will do, though there are some I like more than others. I have heard good things about Dark Tower.
Oh I also think Mass Effect is one of the greatest stories ever told, after I finished all 3 games in the course of about 300-600 hours(I forget) I delved into sadness :c

1984, by George Orwell. Its influence, the terror it still brings to this day, and the fantastic writing make it an undeniable classic of dystopian literature. But as for me personally... well, sometimes I just enjoy reading a story that takes my soul, wrings it of all joy and optimism, and leaves it out to dry.

The book of Exodus, ( like you I love the story of Moses).
Moses brought 10 plagues on the most powerful kingdom on earth at the time, he parted the Red Sea, and led over a million people through the desert for 40 yrs.
The life story of Jesus Christ, ( He walked on water, He calmed the seas with but a word, He cast out demons, He fed thousands, He cured the sick, He raised the dead, He brought peace and comfort to all who were willing to listen and abide by his message, a message which he received from God.)
The story of David Crockett, ( From frontier woodsman, to frontier soldier, to the United States congress, to a heroic death at the Alamo.)
As far as fictional stories go, my favorite in that department are:
The Fugitive, ( Starring Harrison Ford.)
The Outlaw Josey Wales, ( Starring Clint Eastwood.)
Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention these gems.
Stargate SG-1, its movies and then Stargate Atlantis.
It's impressive how relatively underfunded / underscaled military operation does so much to help Earth from Goa'Uld and ridiculous damage it caused to thousands of years of their rule.
