Peobably the latter. Ideas on their own are not to be thought of as having much significance. But when people start agreeing with it, that is when it becomes a potent force.

That's not what I said. What I meant to say is that the US has a lot of power that can (and will) be used in all the wrong ways if Trump becomes president. But the US has about the same influence over Europe as Europe over the US, so I wouldn't really speak of the US running the World.

The things he's saying would be funny if he were a disheveled solicitor raving in the streets or your drunk grandfather at a family gathering. Not when he's somebody who has the stage and influence to actually inspire acts of violence against the groups of people he's lambasting. There's nothing "hilarious" about breeding hatred and stigma towards people who are already disproportionately targeted for hate crimes.
