What games do you think are overrated?

Now take a look at GTA:SA's graphics

    Got my point yet?

Did you just criticize the graphics of a game made back in 2004? You can't say a game is overhyped because it is old...

  • It is okay. Oh I wasn't intending to spark an argument, I just want to hear your opinion.

I love the game because I love the tension that comes from sneaking around and assassinate or spare people. But I can see what you mean. The world does feel bland and boring at times.

Didn't see your post the first time i went to this page. My bad. As for Dishonored, I didn't find the game's world to be compelling ( cha

  • I agree, for the time the visuals were particularly good and there are many exciting moments. But the platforming is rather linear and, at times, uninspired, the antagonists mostly suck, Drake (before Uncharted 3) isn't layered at all and the plot is typical of an action packed B-movie with no logic, a lot of explosions, and all the good guys well and alive (none of them ever dies, NONE of them). All the Uncharted are good games, I've had fun playing them, but I think they are terribly overrated, even more so than TLOU (which I appreciated way more tbh).

so can anybody tell me why this game is so damn appreciated? Because many people loved the characters- particularly Drake, the visua

  • To be fair, Half Life 2 was primarily developed for the PC, while SA was primarily developed for the PS2, which in raw power was the weakest of that gen's consoles. Then again, there were a number of better looking games on the PS2 than SA, though I don't remember any of them having an open world the size of SA.

Yes, you could say PS2 was the weakest and defend GTA SA's graphics that way, but these games came out in 2004 too.

    Final Fantasy XI

    Silent Hill 4

    enter image description here

    Jak 3

    enter image description here

All 3 of these games came out in 2004 and looked god damn fantastic. So GTA San Andrea doesn't really get an excuse here.

EDIT: Perhaps should have used a better example for SH4.

I have no clue if I posted here before, but if not:

    • The Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of Time: Honestly, I hate this game. It's one of my least favorites in the series, and the problems I have with this game are too many to list, but that's not why it's here. It's very overrated and in no way does it match up to the hype that I've seen every human being and their damn dog give it. It's just not as good as everyone says. Wind Waker on the other hand, deserves all of Ocarina's praise, and more!
    • Undertale: Honestly, this game is garbage. It's absolute trash and the only thing saving it is it's charm. So why exactly is everyone going fucking insane over it? Why does it get so much praise? It's simply overrated.
    • The Last of Us: TLOU is a good game. Do I love it? Yes. Do I adore the characters? I do. Do I believe it lives up to the hype and the title of "Best Game Ever" like everyone's been giving it? No. It's nowhere near that good.

    EDIT: I forgot one.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Both of them are astronomically bad. Both of them MIRROR Sonic 06, (and I'm not sure if everyone remembers Team Dream, but I got kicked off of it basically because of Sonic Adventure.) They're fucking awful games, and yet everyone calls them the best 3D games of that time. No, they're fucking not. They're glitchy pieces of garbage, and I would know, I LITERALLY just finished the second game. Like, not even 12 hours ago.

  • Undertale.

I get it your game is good, chill.

  • Yeah, that's true. And didn't MGS3 come out in 2004 too? That one looked pretty good for the time too.

Yes, you could say PS2 was the weakest and defend GTA SA's graphics that way, but these games came out in 2004 too. Final Fantasy XI

  • I didn't finish the game. I start getting bored when the missions becomes repetitive. Then I stopped playing altogether when they start making us replay missions I have already completed.

If there was a single most over hyped game in the gaming history it would be Final Fantasy VII.

As much I'm biased towards that game, I recognize that its following is just plain insane. Enough to make Square Enix to spend A LOT of money to its eventual remake in PARTS.

They basically have guaranteed to make their money back and more even before the first part is even out (me and many other "sheeps" end up pre-ordering it anyway.)

Did I mention that the re-releases of the original are still still selling well for a game that is decades old?

  • I know I did comment a few months back, but I found more games overrated:

-Call of Duty series: Seriously, this games are just shooting, surviving, blowing up things etc. they don't have a good story. I never played COD Ghosts, I just watched the prologue of the game.

-Assassin's Creed series: For unknown reason, Ubisoft keeps making an Assassin's Creed game EVERY year, I heard that the man who had the idea of this games was fired after releasing Assassin's Creed 2 and it's one of the reasons why AC is kept going. AC 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations and 3 were very good but the future sequels are very disappointing, AC Unity is the shittiest one, I hope I'll get Syndicate very soon to see how good this is.

-Life is Strange: I loved it before but after the finale, it became disappointing in my opinion. None of the choices really mattered until you choose how you want to end this game but I think the story is still good.

-Beyond Two Souls: Unlike Heavy Rain and Until Dawn, this game is focusing on the story more than the choices that you make.

-Just Cause series: The stories of this games were never interesting. However, the gameplays are cooler, the best one is Just Cause 3 of course.

-Minecraft: This game has no story! You just walk around, build stuff, kill monsters etc. That's the reason why I play Minecraft Story mode, it has a story.

-The Amazing Spider Man: I played this game a few months ago, I didn't like the story and the combat is very bad. I didn't play the second game just yet.

  • I might get a lot of hate for this, but...

Don't get me wrong. I love TFTB, it's a good game with good characters and a good story, possibly one of the best games from Telltale, but it definitely doesn't beat TWD S1, at least not in my opinion. Is it a great game? Yes, but I don't think it deserves all the praise it gets.

  • enter image description here

Jk,but I agree with you to an extent, yes it's a bit overrated on this forum, but compared to other "big" titles, this game gets nothing. And about comparing it to TWD,I think it depends on people's taste,TWD appeals more for people interested in dramatic and emotional stories with serious issues while TFTBL is generally more fun and lighthearted than TWD,so it appeals more to people who wanna have a fun time and good giggle out of a game.Personally, both games to me are fantastic and I can't choose one over the other ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What really bothers me, is when people become so into videogames, that it crowds out there desire to associate with other people.
Same is true of the Internet, the TV, and Movies.
Videogames, the Internet, the TV, and Movies are alright, when they are kept in their proper place.
    Everything in moderation!

This is true, granted that the game accused of being overrated was highly praised.

  • Totally agree! I enjoyed Borderlands, and it's good for what it is, but goddamn does everyone overpraise it. And it's even more frustrating to see Borderlands be so overrated, while Game of Thrones, meanwhile, is so, so underrated.

  • I personally believe CoD has excellent stories, the Black Ops series has some of the most thought provoking and enjoyable stories in any game I've played...and that's saying a lot for a blockbuster FPS. Ghosts was a very original concept if you continued past the prologue, Advanced Warfare had an EXCELLENT campaign imo. The MW series was kind of weak in story, but made up for it in incredible, intense moments.
I still love AC too but hey, opinions. You have yours haha.

Haha, yeah that's what I mean. TFTB is highly praised on the Telltale fanbase.

And about comparing it to TWD,I think it depends on people's taste

That's true, it's difficult to compare them since they're very different from each other, but I was just making the comparision cause I've seen a lot of people creating threads and comparing them, saying it's better than TWD s1, etc. I love both games, I just don't understand all the praise

  • Yeah, the framerate wasn't too hot, but the game was pushing the PS2's hardware, at the time. I think Kojima wanted to make it for the PS3, but they then opted to make it for the 2.

    Yep. Late November of 2004.

  • I have to feel bad about Sonic Team and Big Red Button, in regards to Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom. Boom was being developed for the PS4 and XBO, until Sega forced them to make it for the Wii U, in order to finish their 3 game deal with Nintendo. They had to scrap pretty much everything they had done, because the game's engine wasn't working well on the Wii U.

06 was rushed, because Sega wanted the game to be out in time for Christmas. It's like they didn't care or weren't aware of the troubles that Sonic Team were facing, like it being their first multiplatform game or how the team was split into 2, with the other half working on Sonic and The Secret Rings. This led to all the unoptimization, cut content and glitches in 06.

But yeah, it's weird that people praise Adventure 1 and 2, while criticizing 06, when they are both pretty broken and have some bad game design.

  • Yeah, early on, they were probably hoping that the final product would be awesome. I wonder how they must've felt as the deadline drew near.

Had Sonic Team been given more time and had BRB not been forced to switch platforms, they probably would've released better finished products.

Yeah, you've got to feel bad for them, especially for the people who worked on the games thinking they'd be awesome.

  • The shitty AI for GTA SA gives it charm though, and makes for some pretty funny mishaps to happen. I wouldn't necessarily call the story cheesy. I think it was a really mature story, and I'd say it's the second or third best one of the series. And who gives a fuck about the graphics when it comes to a game as immersive as GTA SA?

  • Well, they did make the final Wii U version in a couple of months, after scrapping the work they did for the other 2, so it could've been far worse. I think I remember reading about that, but I thought it was about the 3DS version, which was made by the same dev as Sly 4.

Yeah.Try saying that again after rewinding "Beat Down On B Dup" for the 10th time because Sweet keeps getting killed from insane drivers who show up randomly on the street >_<

I wouldn't necessarily call the story cheesy. I think it was a really mature story, and I'd say it's the second or third best one of the series.

I think I didn't word it properly, the story overall is really great, but some in-betweens and sequences are just unbelievable, take a look at "Black Project" and "End Of The Line" for example, they both clearly show that CJ has a harder time killing a gang lord than infiltrating and stealing a secret project from the most secure military base in the whole world, and that is just a little bit of what plot inconsistencies that this story has.Overall:A good story filled with plot holes/inconsistencies.

And who gives a fuck about the graphics when it comes to a game as immersive as GTA SA?

I'd say that if the game had at least some kind of decent graphics, but this game's graphics is straight up an eyesore, especially for a game that was (as I mentioned before) released in 2004,the same year that games like SH4,FF XII,MGS 3 and HL2,which all looked far more superior to GTA SA,so it doesn't have an excuse here. And R* made it even worse on the PC port, which is supposed to be superior to every other port, but nah :3

In the end I wanna say,I loved the game to pieces and consider it to be one of the best games out there, but when people start praising SA as the most superior GTA,then no..I can't agree with that.

  • There's no such thing as overrated. Only what is considered good and what is considered bad by today's culture.

Then again, I'm pretty drunk right now. :P

  • I did have gang members run over by asshole drivers, but that didn't happen to me during the more important missions.

Yea some of those missions were weird as hell, but they were fun. I think San Andreas has the most fun mission out of the series in my opinion. Except Supply lines. Fuck that mission. By the way, how the he'll do you fly on the PC version? Its absolutely impossible.

Graphics are inferior, for sure, but that doesn't deny the fact that it's one of the most fun games you'll ever play. So yea, SA is my personal favorite out of the entire series.
