Judging by the numbers of some of the most recently registered users, the amount of registered EDIT: accounts is now 5 million and counting.

The total user count is 870,550, but the amount of active users is much smaller.
Also, keep in mind that includes spam accounts/gimmick accounts in addition to what Jennifer said about that not being all active users.
