Slightly off topic, but do you know what would be wonderful? A year in which the contestants do not sing in English by an overwhelming majority. Cannot we have one year wherein the language of each song is mandatorily set to what the national language of each country is?
Oh, and I am with Pipas on Australia this year (No, not just because it was my country).

Errm, the majority sing in English because a lot more people can understand them without reading the subtitles. A lot of international bands etc sing mainly in English.
Eurovision is the cheesiest thing ever!
Makes me cringe.
Also why does no one vote for England but wanna sing in English? No one likes us but they like the language?

Also if it's your country you should be proud and sing in your national language even if it's just for the Eurovision, you're representing your country. I couldn't imagine Germany singing in Spanish or English signing in french for the show
Ukrainian "heroes" who were murdering polish neighbours in Eastern Galicia and Volhynia 1943-44. Norman Davies:
"Villages were torched. Roman Catholic priests were axed or crucified. Churches were burned with all their parishioners. Isolated farms were attacked by gangs carrying pitchforks and kitchen knives. Throats were cut. Pregnant women were bayoneted. Children were cut in two. Men were ambushed in the field and led away. The perpetrators could not determine the province's future. But at least they could determine that it would be a future without Poles."
100 000 victims. This won't be forgotten. Fuck upa.

I'm little aware of eastern history but fast checking I see it is mentionned that there were 230 000 persons who were deported. Did all these people collaborate and killed these people?
I don't want to begin a fight but I try to understand what it's all about.

I don't really have a favorite, but my country's radio was overhyping eurovision as fuck and saying that the Netherlands would be in the top 5, most of them were cocksuckers of Douwe Bob anyway.
What do you guys think about Slow Down Brother? I didn't like it at all and thought it was another generic slow song.
Countries tend to vote for the countries they are allied with historically(politics, war, eurovision) every year the votes are mostly the same but english vote for the songs they like as a result no allies. Also england dont take it seriously at all its just a joke show.

Australia was invited last year for a special to represent the 60th anniversary, and then they just let us go in it again.
Also... the Queen of England is also the Queen of Australia...we're still tied to Europe pretty closely. I have a feeling that plays a part.

I don't feel sorry for them. I don't see a glory or heroes. Upa bands were getting help from their countrymen. Today, bandera, shukhevych, klyachkivsky and other commanders are heroes of Ukraine, war combatants. It's impudence.

Probably shouldn't be called Eurovision if there are countries in it that are not even European (even if they do have a link to Europe) and the thing that pisses me off is what's the point of the countries voting when it just comes down to a public vote. Australia (who are not in Europe ) were storming ahead nearly winning every vote and then lose out because of the public vote and Poland were at the bottom with just 7 points , then comes the public vote and they finish 7th. Either get rid of the countries voting or get rid of the PV. The things a joke, the only decent part (apart from most songs) was graham nortons commentary

You want to bid? 1940-41 according to soviet sources 320 000 Poles were deported from occupied eastern Poland. Historians say twice as much. What I want to say - it was a crime but deported people had a chance to survive. People from the villages surrounded by Ukrainians were doomed. They were tortured before death. 1944 by Jamala. Never forget deportations and genocide. Glory to Ukraine, Glory to Heroes!

The Aussie chick was the best. Demi or something
I've gotta represent my own country don't I? His semi final performance was better in my opinion though, even though they're almost identical.

None were that memorable to me really, they seemed to put more work into the stage and stuff this year. I thought the voting for more fun to watch.
I liked Australia the most.

Thats why I liked Jamala, part of her song was in her native language.
I completely agree.
That was Ukrainian?
No, Crimean Tatar language.
Oh so, thanks!
You know that they were deported for murdering Russian civillians and supporting the Nazis, right?
Thanks for liking my country's song, Marija! I also enjoyed it and thought that we should win but oh well.
Apart from Russia, I also really enjoyed Croatia and Armenia.

I know that it's an offtopic but where are you from?
Why Australia in an european thing btw?
It was invited.

Singing sounds good whatever language you sing in, such as opera. Italian over english anyday
It's mostly a eastern european thing anyway.. And since they vote in group as there are many little countries back there, it's not even worth it.
Not to mention they choose only for the political message (Conchita Wurst, today a thing to say "rekt Russia) which makes the thing quite dull.

Wait. How were Australia in it?
Latvia.
Lol, you and Still_not_bitten are basically two completely opposite types of Latvian people.

Good lord, that's horrible...
When your nationalist propaganda is so fire it wins Eurovision...
Look, I realize that the NKVD repressions were horribly heavy-handed but there's no glory or heroism in ethnic cleansing.

Deportation of the Crimean Tatars
Ukrainian Insurgent Army
English is the Lingua Franca.

They wouldn't get votes from outside their country because no one will know what they are saying.
Dunno. Why is Israel there?
It's a good question aswell.

You don't feel sorry for the 230 000 person, which is the double of what you have a grief against them?
