2004: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Also fun fact, it's the only highly rated video game I've ever played that I feel deserves 100% of the praise it gets.)
2005: A tie between Shadow of the Colossus and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
2006: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
2007: Nothing. Other than Drake's Fortune I did not even like anything that came out in 2007, and Drake's Fortune really wasn't anything too special to me. U2 is where it's at.
2008: Same as 2007, except nothing good came out in 08.
2009: Borderlands.
2010: Dead Rising 2.
2011: Dark Souls.
2012: A tie between Resident Evil: Revelations and Dishonored.
2013: Tomb Raider
2014: Some of my favorite games ever came out in 2014, so to choose one is stupid, so I'll sum it up. Alien: Isolation, Claire, Dark Souls II, Bayonetta 2, Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and Halo 2: Remastered (on the MC Collection)
2015: This one is just as good as 2014, soooo... Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Resident Evil HD, Resident Evil 0 (it was a good year for ResE fans.) Bloodborne, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Splatoon.
2016: Since I'm still hyping a few upcoming games in 2016, there's nothing set in stone for me, however the best ones for me so far are Overwatch, Dark Souls III, DOOM, Uncharted 4, Star Fox Zero and TWD: Michonne. As for the ones I'm hyping, Pokemon Sun & Moon, Dishonored 2, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, Umbrella Corps, We Happy Few, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Outlast 2, Batman: A Telltale Games Series, Resident Evil 2 HD and Battlefield 1

2014 was an amazing year for gaming. Well, for horror fans at least. What I mean is, don't let Sonic Boom ruin the whole year. Also, Tales was released in 2014 and continued onto 2015.

I was never really fond of any of the GTA games, GTA 4 included, but I will say the Ballad of Gay Tony was super fucking awesome. inFamous was okay and the second was pretty sweet, but it was nowhere near as good as Second Son or First Light.
Downpour was great, but it wasn't exactly Silent Hill. Also, don't ever play Book of Memories or Origins, they're both terrible. Same with Shattered Memories, but to a lesser degree since the story in that one is pretty great.

Cole kind of felt like another one of those "Dante Principal" characters. Where they're too badass for their own good and they do cool shit that doesn't feel natural and more feels like action. Only Dante pulls that off because he's fucking Dante.

The gameplays of SS and FL sure are amazing but their story is meh. Cole Macgrath had the best story tbh.

Didn't like the Original Portal, Never liked Mass Effect, Never played TRA or R&C: TOD, and I guess Bioshock would count, I wasn't aware it came out that year. I loved BioShock.
Note: I didn't play any games that came out in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 cause I never played games that came out these years.
Eh, most of the games I played came out some time ago.
But if I played them the year they've been released, it'd be like this:
2004: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
2008: Fallout 3.
2010: Fallout: New Vegas.
2012: The Walking Dead: Season 1.
2014: The Walking Dead: Season 2.
2015: Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series or Tales From The Borderlands (I can't really pick between these two since I really liked them).
Eh, still early for me to pick a 2016 Game of the Year, but I probably won't get any 2016 game, so my GOTY is The Walking Dead: Michonne... for now, at least.

2008 = Valkyria Chronicles, bar nothing else. Completely overlooked by the "Populous" in 2008, hailed by reviewers as a masterpiece yet ignored for years It saw a rival when it was released on Steam just a few years ago and recently saw a PS4 HD Remaster release, as it's become a video game hidden gem and cult classic. I don't know of one person who has played it, and since has said bad things about it. Being GOTY is a popularity contest it at least saw some honorable mentionings in the fields of most original games, and best sound tracks. Despite that reviewers themselves gave it very high scores for a game that saw little to no marketing at all in the west, and came in under the radar. SEGA was so proud when they saw how well it sold as steam and how much users openly praised it that they came out in a press conference thanking gamers. For a long time fan since it's release that almost moved me to tears, took 6 years......

I know. I'm basing it off of when I played it. I typically class my game of the year as a game I played in the year, regardless of when it came out.
2016: Fire Emblem Fates
2015: Game of Thrones TT
2014: SWTOR
2013: Heroes of Stalingrad
2012: Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion
2011: Jade Empire
2010 Titanic: Adventure Out of Time
P.S. Not based on year of release but in order of which I got the games I play now.
So, Book of Memories, Downpour, Shattered Memories and Origins all make it onto that list too? Because I wouldn't let those disasters anywhere near mine.
