At this popular gay nightclub, Omar Mateen, with an assault rifle, opened fire on the nightclub goers. He was later killed by the SWAT after he took hostages. The police have been investigating for further details. The father of Mateen has said that he does not believe it was religious based, but did point out that he recalls a time that Mateen got angry once he saw two men kissing.

In the shootout with Mateen, which led to the hostage situation, where Mateen was killed, an officer was shot in his Kevlar helmet, injured, but okay.

This has been the worst mass shooting in American history.

Please remember to be sensitive in discussion. Trolling, insults, etc, will not be taken lightly.

InGen Edit: The shooter is said to have called 911 swearing allegiance to ISIS before the attack:

  • Holy shit, that sounds devastating.

  • It's awful. My prayers to the victims and families.

    Holy shit, that sounds devastating.

  • When is this ever going to stop?

  • It's gotta be awful for the families of everyone involved, including that of the gunman's. The mother of the Port Arthur shooter had to endure a lot of crap because of what her nutjob of a son did.

Watching right now. I live in Orlando in Orange County and this Domestic Terror thing is pretty uncommon here. It would be crazier if it was at Disney World or Universal. The mayor of Orlando declared a state of emergency here.

This is...way too close to home for me, as in an hour away. Holy fuck!

EDIT: My gay friend in Orlando stayed home, thank god.

I was really worried when I first read this news, as my high school friend now lives in Orlando and goes to that club. He just got on Facebook this morning and let everyone know he's OK.

    It's an awful tragedy.

I live in Northern Virginia it's still too close to home for me. Thank goodness your friend is okay.

  • Earlier this year, when that last Mass killing happened. I saw a reporter on cable warn of an up sweep in this kind of terrorism! What is making me mad is the coverage of this said the same! Can we please stop making these insane fringe idiots famous! This dude was 29 and pissed. There are so many ways this could have ended better! Truly sad day for America. Thoughts and prayers to all victims of this.

  • I just heard about this. I have no words. These mass shootings are more than just awful.

  • I feel just as bad for my fellow LGBT+ folk who have been and will continue to be hurt by this as I do for unrelated Muslim folk who will be targeted over what one person did.

  • I'm so tired of this bullshit.

  • Damn. Rest in peace to those who died, and God be with the injured.

  • I feel really sad, they did nothing wrong.

  • Obama spoke about this not too long ago. I only heard bits and pieces, but it sounded good overall.

  • This is very sad indeed. I really hoped this sort of violence would stop after the Supreme Court Ruling for gay marriage.

  • Well... shit, that doesn't sound good.

However, from recent news I've heard, ISIS morale has gone down by notable amounts and some of them have even began killing each other off under suspicion of spies being among them. It's possible that they might begin to be fading out to some partial extent, and are using attacks like this as some attempt at keeping relevancy.

Apparently he did indeed swear allegiance to ISIS: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/breakingnews/suspected-orlando-shooter-called-911-swore-allegiance-to-islamic-state-nbc/ar-AAgX1Zt?li=BBnbkly&ocid=UE01DHP

The Islamic State itself has been losing a lot lately. The Iraqis are going after Fallujah, the Kurds are advancing to Mosul. The Syrian government and rebels are going after them during the ceasefire, Manbij, the last route to the outside world, has just been cut off by the SDF, Mosul and Raqqa are on the line to be assaulted, and constant airstrikes are killing senior leaders, damaging oil supplies, etc.

The fighters are getting paid less, if at all, the caliphate isn't as great as they make it out to be. I'm not sure if you've heard about the recent bombings in Baghdad, but those are desperation attacks. Their morale is definitely going down. ISIS is returning from an "army" to a more conventional terrorist group like al Qaeda. Homegrown terrorism has always been rising sadly, as the propaganda.

I guess this is the most major terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.

  • Are you gay?

    I'm scared for my life ;_;

  • These events are always sad for the meaningless deaths these assholes bring. The sad thing is it asks only the will of one person to harm so much.

Don't loose to the terror they try to bring and condolences for your country.

  • No. Why?

I found out about this and I was so disgusted, honestly I see people crying about "you have gay rights, what more do you want???" Like people to stop being homophobic and taking their homophobia to the extreme like this shit.

Let alone Donald Trump is applauding himself, whist 50 FUCKING FAMILY'S CRY, because he (the guy who did it) was a Muslim. Keep in mind, the guy did it because he saw two men kissing NOT because of his religion.

I actually hope he takes Hillary's advice and deletes his account.

  • Keep in mind, the guy did it because he saw two men kissing NOT because of his religion.

I don't want to start a debate over such a terrible and sensitive issue, but uh did you hear he swore allegiance to ISIS? I may be misinterpreting what you mean (sorry if I do),.

But his comments are definitely insensitive.

  • Because the shooter was a homophobe and he's also dead so unless you are gay and the dude is a zombie you're safe.

    No. Why?

  • I'm scared because you never know if there could be another member of ISIS ready to shoot up another place.

  • Well, if he claimed affiliation with ISIS, then you should know that ISIS would probably kill for even smaller reasons than being gay, so that means it's irrelevant. Plus, his Muslim parents both disapproved of his actions as I heard so it also has nothing with how he was raised.

    Long live Donald Trump!!!

  • Sympathies go out to the families of the victims and to those recovering.

  • There is absolutely no reason to live in fear of terrorists.

  • It really sucks that some people would go to such extremes to either prove a point or convey a message. I'm really sad that these families have just suddenly been affected by this tragedy, and offer my condolences to anyone out there who may have lost a family member from this.

  • I think even ISIS claimed it.

  • False.

  • You really got to love how quickly politicians jump on tragedy to get support.
