our future over a campaign fuelled by racism, xenophobia and a complete absence of fact.
Right there was where I figured I shouldn't take anything else you say seriously.
I have a complete lack of political knowledge and don't follow any political news. But this has interested me. Why do the Brits want to leave the E.U. so badly?
As much as I'm sad that Brits left I hope that they will do well and show that EU isn't the only alternative. With what's is turning into I hope that it will either reform and change it's ways since current policy is tottal and utter fail. If not then I wish for it to collapse and for those leftist to choke on it.
Nationalism or whatever. Some hope it causes an economic boost, some just want to be independent. To get a clear picture you would need to interview A LOT of people.
Now if there was a good reason why someone voted brexit was the national security. EU is pretty lenient with whole crossing across countries thing.
I have a complete lack of political knowledge and don't follow any political news. But this has interested me. Why do the Brits want to leave the E.U. so badly?
From an historical point of view, one could argue it's because their country always had a preferential treatment in the EU and always tried to get more. Lately Cameron got a preferential treatment in EU just in this year for example. This will of leaving can be understood with the failure of their own "UE" with northerners countries half a century ago. I can't remember its name though.
If you want to know why the individuals wanted to, there are a fair amount of pro brexit comments here.

Now I hope for you EU won't be childish and try to make of your country an example by sanctionning it or putting high taxes. So I wish you good outcomes for what will happen in your country next.
The more you call people racist and stupid the more resolve you give to the anti establishment movements. This is a result of EU arrogance, I like the EU idea but in its current form it started to look more and more undemocratic. Someone voted against the Lisabon treaty, no matter, they where just stupid and had to vote again to get the "correct vote", Greece had issues with debt, let them suffer to preserve the German banks and economy. I hope EU leaders take a lesson from this and change so the EU is again a common market and cultural space for European civilization. Not an institution that forces waves of migrants upon people who themselfs are struggling or forces austerity upon falling economies and in doing so aggrevates the crisis.

Delighted to see the UK's taking back control of their own country and I wish them the best of luck in the long term. I hope and pray that this'll be the beginning of the EU's end, which is long deserved.

You know, there's a sea between these two countries, and Calais's campment has been dismantled like 3 months ago.
This pic is wrong in the sense that France in this case won't filter anymore the migrants in Calais since the "accords du touquet" might be reconsidered, and the borders with it. More likely the UK will have to do it by itself in its own island.
Since the UK is fundamentally different to what it was during the referendum for their independance, it would be fitting Scotland to do another referendum. I think some scots voted to stay in UK in order to stay in EU in the first place.
I'm curious if those Leavers who based most of their decision and argument on the EU being 'undemocratic' will target the undemocratic House of Lords, or whether that gets a free pass because it's British.
ok i have no fucking idea whats going on, but i think its just like the US over here. no matter what one side will be flipped to look like something else and make the other side look bad/wrong.
the leave people are racist, and the stay are dumb-asses because, well i really dont know why.
all i really hope is that everything works out for y'all and everyone. all im seeing is how the pound, well something got fucked, crashed and everything is screwed. i've also heards that there's people who voted leave because they thought it was all a bunch of bullshit.
anyways what some people here are arguing why they should leave make some great points and are very convincing, but like i said i really have no idea what the fuck is going on, so i just wish you all the best!
btw, me just being paranoid and putting my tinfoil hat all i get from this is what Robert Baratheon said to Ned "theres a war coming, ned.i dont when, i dont know who we will be fighting, but its coming"
How is leaving the EU helping us at all? As of right now, 3 million people are out of jobs and as of today your savings are worth 31% less than they were yesterday. Plus, all of the Brits who live abroad now have their residency at risk.
A strong economy that the single trade market the EU created. The same EU we have chosen to leave. Obama himself said Britain would be at the back of trade queues, the pound has dropped and we are unsafe to trade with. Scotland will leave us, followed by Northern Ireland potentially, and they will want to enter EU as their own countries. England and Wales left... are we really strong enough to build a strong economy? Oh, and Wales will probably want their independence too! Because you don't bring anything to the table. When the UK was a powerhouse who could influence the rest of the EU they had value, but now it really has nothing. Also, you're still going have immigrants, who will "take jobs". They'll just be illegal now - take a look at America.
3 million are out of jobs? Is that the current unemployment rate, or some figure you've regurgitated by the failed Remain side?
Yes, the pound has devalued, but this was to be expected. It has grown since this morning and the markets will continue to stabilise over the coming weeks.
And not a single Brit abroad has their residency at the risk, international states they can't be deported, furthermore, why would a country want to kick out a source of income?
We will still pursue the single market, we buy more from them anyway, so they'd lose more in the event of tariffs or no trade.
Obama was just safeguarding American interests, read up on TTIP, it might scare you. Besides, Trump is all for Brexit and Clinton seemed to respect our decisions, they're who matter.
Scotland had the option to leave the UK and join the EU two years ago, they said no. They'll say no again. NI is still split, it had a much more even result than Scotland. They won't go for independence. As for poor Wales, they haven't seen independence since we dressed in armour and rode on horses, no chance.
Remember Cameron's reforms? He went in with some bold claims, came out with some watered down, non-binding and barely effective policies, yeah, that's how much of an influence Britain was. How was Britain (Pound Sterling) much of an influence on the rest of the EU (Euro)?
Now, we have full control on immigration, which now won't be non-discriminatory and won't allows mass, unsustainable migration. Britain has a natural moat, I wouldn't count on being like America

I rather feel sorry for the Remain side, some have shown no dignity in defeat, especially the young. Why exactly is it wrong for the elderly to vote? They've worked, grafted and fought all their lives for Britain, they have every right to decide it's future. I've never seen a more selfish display. As for the petition for a revote, it is just spitting on the principle of democracy.
Besides that, it's time for Britain to wake up and smell the freedom!
It all depends on who you ask. The traditional working class have a very strong national identity, they don't like seeing Britain being eroded, not to mention uncontrolled mass immigration which undercut wages. The more newer, metropolitan working class aren't pleased that the EU was unelected and costed us millions each week. As for the middle class, they weren't very happy that the EU was costing business through strict regulation.
For some it could be a mix of all the 3, I'm only generalising the big picture, us Brits don't like being told what to do unless we elect them and they are specifically British, we're a bit stubborn like that. Indeed, the EU and Remain side used a lot of bullying and threatening, you can bet this turned a lot of support away

Will Scotland leave? As I've mentioned in a reply before, Scotland was offered the same referendum just 2 years ago. Leave the UK and join the EU. They said NO. Not much has changed in 2 years, apart from the SNP losing it's majority. As for Northern Ireland, there will be calls, but it is far too split to call it for them leaving. All these plans are to be expected in the first week of freedom.
And it's interesting you ask me that. 4 countries, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, 2 of them voted Remain, 2 voted Leave, yet presumably all of them will leave. So they've been overruled. Now you know what it's like when Britain gets overruled by 27 other countries, a super-state of that size and varying different economies just doesn't work. Britain had dwindling influence within the EU, we've always been an outsider and they've never really respected us, hence lackluster reforms.
One day I hope Europe will be free again and all the countries can trade and co-operate together. But locking us into a single market, snatching our sovereignty and eroding democracy is just not the way. We took the lifeboat
I am pissed we're leaving, I wanted to stay in the EU. Thinking about moving to Scotland (if they become independent) or Ireland.
I am surprised the majority of this thread thought we should leave. Reddit is full of people who wanted to stay. I'd rather have the EU to keep our government in check to be honest. It isn't like being independent means the common man gets anymore control or say than before.
I kind of think its unfair that the vote was so close that half of the country gets dragged along with the other half. And Scotland got fucked over, being able to stay in the EU was a reason people voted against independence, and now they've been dragged along by England and Wales to leave when the majority wanted to stay.
What do you think will change for you if you will no longer be part of EU? Nothing will change, UK is way too important and big for the EU to block the trade, there will be a deal and trade will resume, when the dust settles UK will be where Norway or Switzeland is now, with individual agreements with EU. I don't get this love for the EU, did you saw what EU did with Greece when it got in the debt trouble? Or how it tried to undermine the democratically elected government of Poland and Hungary when they disagreed with the migrant policy of the EU?
EU needs to go back to the roots of national states with a common market, free movement (only within the EU borders) and cultural exchange betwean the EU states.

This post basically sums up why Brexit happened. You little racist, xenophobic, uneducated, rightwing cocks will never win, Brexit will fail, soon you will be paying in euros whatver you want it or not! Tell that to people long enough and they will rebel, even if it will hurt them economically.
This isn't a fair comparison, is it. Is there zero downside for leaving and zero upside for staying? Because you make it look that way. That is clearly biased, otherwise not one person would've voted to stay in the EU.
The Republic of Ireland is completely separate from the United Kingdom and has been for years. I'm sure you meant to say Northern Ireland, which is a different country from Ireland and remains apart of the UK, due to having a Unionist majority.
Okay, I don't understand or more clearly comprehend why people want to break down good systems and call it progress.
It kind of makes me even more fascinated of what's going to happen if the decision makers accept the results.
I don't want to speculate too much what those who voted leave has in common (in general.) Are old people wanting to leave EU due nostalgia of "better days" when they didn't "need" EU or something. Or are they young?
Anyway, this is a typical problem with democracy. Many of us end up voting things without really understanding them and I admit that I don't know enough about the subject make a call if a decision to leave EU was right or wrong.
Just to point out, I don't live in Britain, nor I'm British. Also more than likely, I don't know what I'm talking about so take it as pinch of salt.
Actually, I read up on this. Law states that neither the ferries, nor the Eurostar is allowed to transport illegal immigrants into Britain (as they haven't been checked and formally allowed in by the UK, they would class as illegal immigrants), hence they couldn't get into the country via Calais without having being checked first in Calais itself
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not saying that the 'accords de touquet' wouldn't be looked at, but there would still have to be some form of British border control at Calais

Yeah, the Common Fisheries Policy is definitely one of things fisherman dislike, also a reason Iceland and Norway haven't joined the EU. I saw a statistic that 92% of fisherman voted to leave.

Wonder what the elderly who voted predominantly for Leave will think when Scotland leaves the UK.

They're not an empire like they used to. So for their sake, hopefully it doesn't bite back.
Maybe Britain starts their own "EU" wannabee and replaces it.
Just joking but "New British Empire."
soon

I don't really get this speech at all, are 48% of people not 'real'? Are most people under the age of 50 not real?

Scotland will leave...Ireland probably....so the U.K. will probably fade in the next 20 years. The EU..was there no way to fix what was wrong?

And I agree—not voting on matters such as this is very careless and foolish.

I love the stereotypical Anti Jewish picture hidden in there. Wonder what the person who made the picture is trying to imply.
