  • Shinsekai Yori, is set in a utopian future where five kids explore the world around them and their whole 'village' has power of telekinesis. A very dark anime.

When They Cry aka Higurashi, this is as dark as it can get lol. Be careful though, the main tags for the first season are Horror and Myster. Expect a lot of gore. Just..don't spoil yourself since it really kills the ride.

Death Note, a classic, the name says it all. A magical notebook is a supernatural element and protagonist is very..interesting and dark.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, girls with superpowers whofight witches. It's definitely not for children as it appears to be, it has nice plot twists and the whole setting is pretty sad and dark.

There are a few more anime that I have watched but this should be enough, but for searching new anime you should visit this site called MALL

Thanks. May not be what I typically watch, but I shall make a note to at the very least check it. Supernatural Elements are close enough to fantasy. What do you have in mind?

If you haven't decided yet I recommend watching brotherhood over the 2003 version, it's way more true to the manga and the plot is just better.

  • Fillers! FILLERS EVERYWHERE!!!

I remember how they made a large amount of fillers just to make the gap between Part 1 and Part 2 larger so the anime doesn't overtake the manga.

The anime especially. I love the series but goddam the anime version is just fillers galore. THERE'S FILLER AND THE MANGA'S ALREADY DONE! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

If you don't mind long shows (like in the 700s) I'd recommend One Piece.

If you like mystery shows I'd recommend Detective Conan (more than 800 episodes, but you can shorten it quite a bit by only watching the plot relevant cases).

I'd actually recommend doing the 2003 version first then watching Brotherhood.

Eh I personally found the characters way better in brotherhood, the art style is better, the plot in my opinion was way better since that's what the original creator envisioned, got more episodes.

Also the 2003 one doesn't have Olivier at all (amazing character) and the Greed there cannot compare to brotherhoods Greed, Greed was shat on in the original.

Spoilers ahead for anyone reading (spoiler tags don't work for me)

Brotherhood's Greed's character arc was amazing. The guy went from someone you hated for taking over Lings body to someone you were crying over when he actually left his body.

I agree, I'm just saying that 2003 is really good as well but if you watch FMAB first it'll be diminished if you decide to watch it afterwards. Plus while I do agree Brotherhood is an improvement in most aspects, it does rush through the plot points FMA had already told really fast.

  • It rushes through them so it could get to the "new" material as fast as it can, it's so fans of the original wouldn't get bored watching the same stuff. Good point though.

But I remember the first time she showed up on the show, she threw a knife at annoying assface Naruto and preceded to be a fucking creep and straight up lick's the dude's face where his scar is.

And me being a weird socially awkward 14 year old was like "that's fucking hot as shit!"

  • That filler gap was actually more understandable, honestly. It saved it from the same fate Bleach's anime adaption had (I'm enjoying the manga's final arc). Now with fillers that constantly flashback to a scene we already knew of in full episode length, or fillers even when the manga is done, that's what annoys me. Fillers that introduce a new story (Chikara Arc for example), or new flashbacks such as that Kakashi one, or the Ohtsusuki family (yeah, can't spell it out) flashbacks, those are fine and actually adds something valuable (the infinite tsukuyomi was completely unneeded tho).

Fillers! FILLERS EVERYWHERE!!! I remember how they made a large amount of fillers just to make the gap between Part 1 and Part 2 larger so the anime doesn't overtake the manga.

  • Waste an hour of your life, and I promise you will not be disappointed.

  • I would give you a thumbs up for DC, but it's silly to jump episodes in the longest anime series, plus a lot of secondary storylines and character development happens even if the main plot is not getting further, like police romance or detective kids cases. Also a lot of recurring characters get introduced in cases/episodes that aren't that interesting in their own right.

Oh I know that, I mostly meant the TV original ones (there are 339 of those, although I'd still recommend the more interesting ones like the Courtroom Confrontation series, some of the other cool murders, hour long specials and definitely anything with Kaitou Kid). I'd definitely skip some of the earlier TV originals because it's hard to find decent subs for some of them (it was weirdly hard for me to find good subtitles for the second part of Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 2, and that one is canon).

I'd only recommend skipping any episodes if 800 is daunting though. I'd also recommend watching the movies.

  • I'm pretty surprised at ReZero, I just expected some Groundhog Day weeaboo fantasy that I would watch because why not, but the brutality of the latest episodes have really charmed me.
