The lying thread.
Okay, so we are going to talk about the subject of lying. Do you lie? How often? What has it cost you? And how do you feel about lying in general?
Personally, I have developed a bad tendency to tell little white lies. And I realize how detrimental it is.
And the problem us when you lie about Little things, it sets up a pattern of behavior, making you more prone to lie about big thing.
There is an old saying from Jesus, and I have found it to be true, when he said: "Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones."
In my opinion, lying is a waste of time. Lying destroys relationships - business relationships - friendships - family relationships - and romantic relationships.
If you lie, my advice is to stop right now. Be honest, tell the truth, before something bad happens to you. Before you lose something that you care about very very deeply, more deeply than you realized.
Lying is not worth it!

I used to lie all the time when I was a little kid and that used to get me out of trouble. I don't lie at all anymore, because there isn't any real reason to.
But yeah, people should be honest and tell the truth.
I can't live with a lie even if it's a small one. If I lie about something I'll probably come clean in a few seconds because I just can't.
I lie sometimes for research. For example i introduced myself when starting at university
to every person i met with a different name, some people called me with those names then for weeks. It was pretty cool to keep this masquerade up, avoiding group conversations.... and so on.
Beside such things i don't lie and am very honest.
I can lie but really don't like to. An ex-girlfriend of mine once made me lie to protect her from something she'd done. I did, and then I broke up with her immediately thereafter. That was unforgivable.
My wife never lies about anything. She was brought up that way. Not even little white lies to make others feel better. This sometimes puts her at a disadvantage. For example, the person who lies about what they can do at the job interview will get the job over her admitting her shortcomings. I love that I can always trust her, though.
I dont like to lie and I was even a honest child but sometimes its best to dance around the truth. I dont like how some people ask to be lied to example "how do I look?" Translates to "tell me I look great" I hate when people ask me this and girls have gotten angry with me in the past.
I used to read tarot cards and no one wants you to actually read them they want you to spin some bullshit tale about how they will have some happily ever after fairy tale cringe fest, well sorry honey it says your getting two timed and a family member will die she stopped talking to me then it happened now she hates me I guess. I dont read tarot anymore.
Lying is a corner stone of humanity. You're lied toe very single day and most of the time you do not know it. I remember in psychology that around 80% of conversations between strangers have some sort of lie within them. Over 50% between friends and around 20% between spouses. Of course those are only figures. Now Governments are considerably worse at lying than average people so you can imagine that 80% is likely 90-99%. lol
You have my respect.
I don't enjoy lying at all, but I don't think I lie a lot. I'd rather avoid it but that isn't correct either.
"I don't enjoy lying at all, but I don't think I like a lot. I'd rather avoid it but that isn't correct either."
No offense intended, but that sounds to me like an unwillingness to commit to being honest. Sounds wishy-washy!
Btw I made a typo, it's lie not like but nvm.
Of course I am not committed to being completely honest lol. It's tough, especially when a neighbour asks you "Did you like my meal??".
I understand it's not always easy, but when it comes to being honest, it's really as simple as this: Either you're honest, or you're not.
And I am sorry to be so blunt, but it's the truth.
For most of the times I don't lie. But for some situations the truth can be harsh (or what I think is the truth), so sometimes it's good to keep it quiet.
I lie sometimes to avoid trouble IRL.
Sometimes you just gotta live with it.
+1
You have nothing to be sorry for.
My favourite thing to do. I'm doing it whenever there's a chance; morning, noon, afternoon. And at work when boss is not around.
I occasionally use (White?) lies to avoid causing stress (to myself as well as others). I rather be dishonest than hurt someone.
I used to lie about my grades because I was afraid I was going to get yelled at. My biggest lie has to be when I hid my progress report from my mom and I told her that I had nothing to give her or sign until my friend's mom told my mom about it. Let's just say my butt was sore for a while and I learned my lesson.
I occasionally lie, although its rarely anything more than a white lie. Trying to dodge around a particularly sensitive question, for example. I never lie to my own advantage. I only lie if the outcome will be harmless. As an example, making up a story for why I was late to a doctor's appointment, when the real answer was that I had to take a shit a few minutes before the appointment. Giving a more sophisticated reason than "I had to take a shit" isn't going to harm anyone, right? Or if I forgot to say goodbye to someone, or wish them a happy birthday or something, I'd make an excuse for going back into the room in order to say it. Something to the effect of "Sorry, I felt like I forgot something in here." Things like that.
Let's be honest here; everybody lies. No exceptions. Everyone has and/or will tell a lie at some point. Sometimes you'll regret it and fess up to it, other times you'll take it to the grave. But you lie nonetheless. Saying that you don't lie would be a lie in itself.
Everyone tells little white lies. Some tell more than others. People who say they have not told any are liars.
Though, I loath people who lie for no reason, make up stories, lie about pointless things or anything along those lines. I have been lied to by someone I thought I knew. I was lied to for over a year and never even got an apology. Now I have zero patients for liars.
Saying I don't lie wouldn't be a lie in itself is a lie...
Which as we know isn't a lie in itself.
Which is in itself... a lie.
I used to lie a ton when I was a little kid. I was eventually found out by my parents and man, my ass still hurts from that punishment. I don't lie much anymore. Nowadays it's usually just little white lies to avoid getting into an uncomfortable situation or to avoid hurting someone's feelings.
"I had to take a shit" is the perfect response.
It's weird - when I lie people seem to believe me and when I tell the truth I often have the urge to giggle so they think I'm lying xD
I don't lie very often (does lying count if you're acting out a role?) - but when I do it gets me out of trouble and even introduces me to some fun cool stuff and has helped me get to know others, I'll be honest, I can't remember a moment where I faced major consequences for lying but I'm sure if I ever lie in the future something bad is bound to occur :x
Although, what I've lied about includes studying, homework and watching TV Shows (one time about playing a game) xD
I lie all the time. In fact, I'm lying right now.
Doctor : Why are you late, Mr. Deltino? You are aware that I have other patients too, right?
Deltino : Y-Yes, I am sorry, I just had to..to..
Doctor : What?
Deltino : It's embarrassing..
Doctor : What is it? Are you hurt? Did the med-
Deltino : I HAD TO TAKE A SHIT
Doctor : ....
Deltino : ....
I have never lied in my entire life.
