Resident Evil Thread (RE7 Comes out January 24 2017)

Ta-dah! The thread I've been dreaming about for a while now (obviously inspired by the Fallout thread). I knew a lot played the Resident Evil games here, at first I wasn't sure, but then I decided I might as well. Here we talk/share about anything related to the series and we can serve this as a waiting thread too I suppose for the upcoming Resident Evil 7. Here's everything we know about RE7 in the links below.

Matt Mercer's Interview of RE7 - Interview

ESRB's rating description of RE7 (note it was later removed from the site by Capcom's request so this is a link to Reddit) - ESRB Rating Description

Finally the videos released are here.

Supposedly there is a video somewhere of the kitchen demo but no luck in finding it.

Anyway, lastly, here's the song for RE7 as this thread's theme.

Resident Evil 7 is like 5 months away, so we got a long wait but I'm sure we can still have fun and keep each other updated with RE7 and talk about other games too even the scrapped stuff Capcom took out. Hope you guys enjoy this thread.

it looked good to me a big step forwards after re6, however not everyone approves of the new style with the first person and ghosts. i still don't know if i will buy the game.

  • I find the concern for first person perspective reasonable. Not everyone likes FP gameplay, my brother is also reluctant to get it for that reason since he prefers third person games. I can manage it, I just like being able to see the characters (that includes the character you play) but oh well. The ghosts bit are not part of the final game actually, they're just there to show they can do horror still. I still am a bit cautious about the game but I'm trying to have an open mind about it.

I actually did enjoy RE6 though, it felt like a natural progression to me in terms of plot build up, since a big outbreak is bound to happen. It made sense, and it showed the world was braver and more ready (more or less). Plus I felt it had good connection to the other games. RE7 is the only RE game I ever had concerns about strangely enough.

  • I'm really hesitant about RE7 but I'll probably give it a chance. My main issue is that it doesn't look like a Resident Evil game.

  • Really big change, but I might give it a shot.

I mean it might be a good change? It's just a really big one, not really like the previous games from what I've seen of it. Doesn't even seem like a Resident Evil game either.

  • I may get it we'll see. I don't like RE turning into just another outlast clone.

That being said I love the other RE games been playing through alot of them for the first time. So far I've played through RE5, RE6, Revelations 2, and part of 4. Also starting RE revelations soon on the ps3 I just got lol. So far Revelations 2 is my favorite of the bunch. Definetly the best game I have played this year. Also RE6.... really underrated game.

  • What... Happened...? How could one of the best survival horror games be forced into a crummy action game and then as @JamesDalton1995 said outlast ripoff... Both temptation aand hesitation are having a war in my mind

  • i liked it too. i like how all the stories are link together - like a bunch of short stories. however the controls were really difficult to work with, i could never finish chris compan witch was a disappointing for me because after jake and sherry story that one was my secound fav story. i could get up to the fight with skull octopus boss creature but could never get past that bit because running up the stairs was impossible because camera angles and the timing at that moment it has to be perfect.

overall the co op is fun and the storylines are enjoyable, the characters were enjoyable however the controls made gameplay furstrating for me i couldnt beat it before rage quiting. so annorying.

  • Shoot I forgot about Revelations 2. That game was awesome. It had a good blend of action and horror and the story was good. I really enjoyed Raid Mode on there, I spent maybe 200 hours on it maining Claire. But then when I got the Samurai Sword for her, well RIP powered up monsters.

It was a bit of major struggle for me too. Still some concerns. But the latest stuff mentioned and shown outside of the demo (the demo was actually fun and scary for me) and trailers have me more eased. It seems to blend RE1 locale with RE4 villager vibes. I'm hoping for more monsters that aren't strictly based on human form. Stuff like Tyrants, Lickers, Reapers, various J'avo mutations, etc.

  • Cool game i love re4 and i can't wait for 7

  • It looks different than all the other Resident Evil games. I think it will be a good game anyways.

  • Please oh please be good. Played previous REs and the demo, it impressed me a lot. It's just hard to tell if the main game will be as good/better when so much crap has been promising. Plus, that damn dummy finger fiasco really pissed me off.

  • There's rumors of a 2nd part to the demo actually. I can't remember where I found it but there was a screenshot of the attic's nailed door no longer having boards on it. Although, the house could just be part of the main game but played out differently.

  • I have been busy for a few days so I didn't have computer time to be able to copy/paste this. This is a community interview with Kawata, RE7's director.

Lots of cryptic answers but at least we know that our survival abilities are expanded upon the further we go. So that's cool. Plus a part of the game's soundtrack is in it, it seems. Nice sound of uncertainty and dread yet such solice mixed into it.

  • I'm glad they're going back to the whole survival horror, but I'm a bit skeptical. It just look as though they're going the "outlast" direction, where your only weapon is a camera and you have to spend the entire game hiding under beds and in lockers. I dislike those games because the player can't defend themselves, they only can run and hide. Maybe I'm in the minority, but those types of games are boring. My favorite RE was RE5, it had just the right amount of action, but it was lacking in the survival department. If they did something like RE5 but with more survival aspects, I'd be happy.

  • I am currently struggling with the Chris chapter and those stairs. I also agree with the 4 separate intertwined stories - I like them. Each has a different battle type. And the "Mercenaries" rounds are real battles! Looking forward to RE7 ... RE6 (believe it or not) is my first game in this series. They have ported RE4 and RE5 to the PS4 and I am planning to attempt them too. Peace!

  • Yes that that moment with Chris is diffical as hell, its the worse. i was in the same boat as you re6 was the first game in the series that i played. hopefully re7 doesnt have as many glitchs/tenco difficaties. i guess that is a benifed the fist person view that there is no 3rd person glitchs.

the demo of re7 reminds of the opening of the tv series, the abandon falling down building the items left on the ground with dust/rust on them.

good luck re6 and the other games in the series. peace

  • My god, I died so damn much in that segment. It was a nice cameo of the camera placement but damn it, running from Haos's attacks was a bitch there. Doesn't help when the AI partner can get in your way when running or take too long to pick you up.

  • Well, there will be combat in the game and the latest ESRB description gives off details wasn't shared by Capcom. However Capcom asked ESRB to remove the description so it's very plausible what was written is true. It details some minor plot details and about the character also describing the gore and weaponry at your disposal.

Agreed. The Ai partner was problematic - it dose feel like it dosen't pick u up in time. When i play that part of the game i always played as Piece unfortunately when it comes to Chris's guns it feels like he used way more amor then he picks up. i couldn't tell you how many times that you start taking zombies/ Javo that i run out of bullets - forcing me to a physical attacks on the ennimes or run away and regrouped, unfortunately with expection of Jake Muller who has some skill in marshell arts, his a physical attacks feels you can do a lot of damage to the zombies, the other character's physical attacks are a hit and miss and don't feel like they do a lot of damage. There is a good chance they don't land on the bad guys.

the Ai parner was fun to play as because they tend have skills that their partner can't do. I find Picece's sniper skills really useful also Sherry's stan bat very useful. however unless you playing the co op the Ai just no useful when you playing by yourself. i couldnt tell how many times i play as Piece call Chris to help me to do something and be taken down by an ennemy before Chris runs into the room.

  • I think it looks like a survival horror I wasn't a fan of the fps direction the series was going in I remember playing the very early games they were slow and you felt scared the animations of the doors opening was realy scary back then, then it changed to all guns and action I wasn't a fan but bought them anyway because the series was a part of my childhood. Re6 and revelations 2 were garbage and I couldn't see what people saw in them they shat all over my expectations.

The latest games are in no way survival horror in my opinion.

  • Hey, Does anyone know if you HAVE to use the VR with this game? or can you play it without it? Thanks

  • Im pretty sure it will be vr compatible not vr required at least I hope so. I had the kinnect there was very little to use it with it sucked, going back further I had the eye toy it was racist lol, my mixed nephew had trouble being seen in my gloomy goth bedroom. These things are gimmicks and I dont want to get sucked in again.

  • This isn't RE.

So some new stuff popped up when I was away. I was searching reddit (where I get all my RE news from) and found these.

For the Resident Evil Ambassador Program a person was given this regarding RE7.

    RE Ambassador Images

And here's a link to some new images of RE Vendetta which is set to come out next year. The site is Japanese and I don't understand a single word honestly.

    RE Vendetta article

Here's a rough translation using google.

    Now " that Western-style building " is on the stage ! ?

Weekly Famitsu 2016 September 29, No. In ( released September 15 , 2016 ) , full CG feature film will be released in 2017 "Resident Evil : Vendetta " published an article ! And setting materials will be the first publication , the information expected to increase to the movie such as the passionate comments by the development team is the heaping . Do not miss !

EDIT: I forgot to mention there's been new leaked images of RE7 recently. I'll post the link to it here so if you don't want to see them you don't have to.

Leaked Images here. Enter at your risk.

  • A lot of people are complaining about how this is too similar to Outlast, which I don't understand. Outlast is a fantastic horror game and a huge part of the horror game genre. And think of other games that are like Outlast. Alien: Isolation is a lot like Outlast and that game kicks ass. Yes, it's not Resident Evil in a few places, but it's not gonna be bad because of that. Besides, if "Resident Evil" is just Resident Evil 6 or Umbrella Corps these days, I'd rather have this new direction.

  • Well... this game was just rated in my country... I think I'm going to skip this one...

  • I'm interested. I'm glad they're leaving the 3PS genre behind. While this seems a bit too Texas Chainsaw-y, I'm willing to see where this heads. We've had Resident Evil games that didn't even mention the T-Virus and one that didn't even feature zombies. We've had games with almost no puzzles. We've had games with various camera perspectives. So, I don't agree with the "This isn't RE" argument. Just because the characters aren't named Chris, Leon or Jill? I want to see where this goes before judging it. Since they didn't mention that Resident Evil was turning into an anthology series, it will connect somehow. They already brought up that puzzles and combat will be featured as well. I'll wait.

Neato, time to discover the mystery of the dummy finger. Probably not, but whatevs. haha It's interesting to see a demo get an expansion, that's a new one for me. Will play this when I get better.

  • Okay I just watched this new gameplay trailer, and I don't understand. I see psychos not zombies; or are they suppose to be both? They're eating flesh, so I guess they're zombies :/

  • Meh. It'll probably be better than that piece of shit RE6 as it it least it looks somewhat scary, but it's so lamentable when you consider one of the progenitors of survival horror has to resort to ripping off Outlast to try and appeal to the market. It's such a damn tragedy that fixed camera angles are a dead art in mainstream video games nowadays. Fixed camera simply works infinitely better than FPS and TPS for survival horrors and video game directors have gone backwards for ditching it. As much as I do love RE4 and consider it one of the best action games ever made, its biggest contribution is sadly embedding this newfound "action horror = best game!" mentality in the industry.

Still, I suppose I can always replay RE2 and REmake again. They are, along with Silent Hill 2, still the G.O.A.T. survival horror games in my eyes. Absolutely enthralling game design and atmosphere from start to finish.

  • I found some screenshots of RE: Vendetta!

    Duuude.

  • Is it me or Chris and Leon look a little off.

As for Leon, he looks like he suddenly got younger compared to his RE6 model.
