Last of Us 2 finally confirmed. But won't be around for awhile
It looks like Last of Us 2 has finally been officially confirmed yet it won't be around anytime soon.

According to this article it has been stated by people at NaughtyDog that the game likely wouldn't be released until the 2021 timeframe and no real heavy work would be done on it until 2018. That's surprising that they would wait that long for a sequel to a game that was as massively successful as Last of Us was. I'm wondering if they don't quite yet have a story nailed down that they want to tell.
The Last of Us franchise had a lot of potential but if they are going to wait that long inbetween games it kind of takes a bit of the wind out of the sails of the franchise. I feel like the Last of Us world and seeing Ellie's character growth over the years could have been even better than what we have seen from Walking Dead and Clementine but by the time Last of Us gets their second game out on the market Walking Dead will likely have released four or five games (if they are still making games by then).

Feel like an old man saying this, but back then it took years for a proper sequel to be made for a video game. Still it's nice to hear TLOU is continuing it's story even though I feel it didn't really need to. I can wait though, the game left too much of an impression that I won't ever forget.
Im not too sure if this game will be as emotional as the original
Let's hope for more Ellie. I freakin' love Ashley Johnson!
I think the first game was good.
Quite frankly, I don't really care if they make a sequel or not.
That's good to know. The Last of Us is actually the game that got me to give video games a try. Before giving it a go, I hadn't really played a game since I was a relatively young kid. I played through, I fell in love, then I meandered over towards Telltale's The Walking Dead and other Telltale releases. Thank you so much, The Last Of Us, for both a wonderful experience and for introducing me to my now favorite gaming company.
Because I'm me, now I'm thinking really deeply about life. Where will I be in five years? By the time this game releases, will I be an entirely different person? Ah, that's my mind for you.
While I don't see much use getting ultra-hyped this far in advance, I am glad that they are making a sequel. I found the ending to be perfect, but there's never too much Ellie and Joel! Well, unless they were to be overused or misused, causing them to become a shell of their former selves. I don't see that happening though, for it's pretty obvious that they are going to take their time and really think about what they're doing.
This is how i feel right now from that wait....
Why would they confirm it if it's so far away? Seems like a bad move to me.
Hope I'm alive when this comes out.
Hope not, it ended perfectly.

Hopefully this one will be a video game.
Is anyone even surprised? It's a new IP that sold more than 8 million copies, of course it'd get a sequel. I'd be more surprised if it didn't.
Buzzword.
Yeah. To be perfectly honest they really seem like they don't really care about TLOU. Just look at how much time they spent, by their own admission, ignoring the game when any other company would quickly work on developing a sequel. Even now the delay is incredibly large even with naughty dogs typical standards.
Fake. No link or proper quote from Naughty Dog to the confirmation.
Can you be at least 3% positive for once and not bust other people's balls in the most blatant way possible? I'm pretty negative but most of the time I do that in good fun. Besides, I've read 12 different articles have reporting on this, it's not like 12 different reporters got together and said "Hey let's lie to a bunch of people and bring fake news but make it look really real". It's no doubt Naughty Dog was making this and even if this article isn't accurate they're fucking making it because they're Naughty Dog. As soon as they find a cash cow they milk that shit until it's dead, and nearly 4 years after it's initial release The Last of Us is still a cash cow.
Yeah there's no source.
Trufe.
Um...I'm just telling it like it is. The article is clickbait with no source to back it up.
Care to elaborate. Because I'm pretty sure The Last of Us was a video game.
It's fake. I will believe it when Sony announces it.
Sure, alright, whatever.
To me, it was primarily an interactive movie. Of course not to the extent of David Cage's "games", but The Last of Us is more movie than game, and when it is a game you either walk around a linear path until more story shit happens, or you fight enemies that are hardly challenging anyway. When the fights are challenging, I will give the game credit that it makes it work well, but either way, I hate "games" like that, and I enjoy them a lot more when I consider them to be what they are, an interactive movie. That's just how I feel though, it doesn't bother me horribly and if TLOU2 (which will happen because it's fucking Naughty Dog) is the same thing as the first game, I'm perfectly fine with it.
Doesn't The Walking Dead Games seem more like a movie?
That's true, but The Walking Dead also isn't overrated and overpraised for shit it doesn't do. Telltale very clearly explains that their games are interactive stories with choices tailoring the story. The Last of Us is praised as the best "video game" of all time and loads of other things that it hardly does and yet other games do some of the exact same things (arguably better) and don't get praised for it. Telltale knows what they do and do it well.
I guess that makes sense, but its just a matter of opinion.
What do you think of the Uncharted series?
Well, I don't let my hatred for that style of game dictate how I feel about individual games from said genre, and as for what I think of Uncharted, I like it. It's a lot more interactive in most places than The Last of Us, the story is a lot less cliche, and where I don't care for Joel and Ellie, I genuinely like Nathan Drake's character and Victor (GOD DAMN) Sullivan is pretty fucking awesome. I really like Sam and Elena as well. Don't get me wrong, there's quite a few elements I don't like, but I still enjoy it and feel like it gets unfairly shoved aside whereas The Last of Us gets plenty of unearned praise.
I think the problem is that it isn't naughty dog's style to make a game simply because they know people will buy it no matter what. They make games when they feel there is still story to be told. They have such a good record of giving people good to great games that I think sony just gives them the right to do things on their own schedule,
The issue with a potential sequel is that as good as the first game was the ending didn't leave much room for future stories. The whole game really revolved around Joel and Ellie's relationship and the initial game explored that relationship as much as they really could.
They would have to come up with a brand new idea for a second game that didn't necessarily revolve around Joel and Ellie's relationship and they might be having trouble thinking of an idea that is worthy of an entire game.
You seem to be under the misconception that I don't know Naughty Dog. I know Naughty Dog. I LOVE Naughty Dog games. The issue I have is that they plan to leave Last of Us 2 to begin development 6 years later as the earliest. That is insane compared to the equally successful Uncharted which were planned one after the other. The problem is not that they take their time making it good , it's that they haven't started and won't for 3 more years.
Well if this article is to be believed they could just be announcing it to let fans know that something is coming. Letting them know that there are definite plans to do a sequel (even if the sequel won't happen anytime soon) is better than making them wonder if there will ever be a sequel at all. And they may just not have an solid idea yet for a story which is why they may not be jumping into it right away.
I'm not gonna try to argue anymore. Its clear that people agree with you more due to the like dislike ratio. I just wanted to share my disappointment at the company, which clearly cares more about about other projects. Despite the 'good story' excuse the story has undoubtably been orphaned. Last of Us is the franchise with the longest time without any development. In our society, where sequels at the longest take 3-4 years it is very disappointing.
However like I said most people don't care, at least for now. Due to the immense time-skip between the 2's making I am guessing there are going to be massive differences in several areas. The gaming mechanics and art style are the most likely to change. I am also doubtful that a sequel made 7-9 years after the original will live up to it since most who do that fail horribly. In a few years this comment will probably be forgotten but at least you remember, If it happens, I called it first.
This is fake as balls.
Balls are fake? LOL
I didn't mean literally. XD
I've lost count of how many times this game has been "confirmed."
i read something a while ago that the writers of ND were thinking of doing a sequal to TLOU but were saying that the story of joel and ellie came to a end basicly the next game would have different characters another story to tell, that or ellie grown up and on her own.
i love that world they created and want to see more of it. if they decide to go with new characters/ new story i dont mind but i would love to see more of ellie, she was a fun sassy character and i fall in love in the first game, i wasnt so much a fan of joel but i understood him
They didn't confirm anything all of this is click-bait.
And the first one wasn't?
Someone's salty.
This is always a lazy excuse at dismissing something as not a game. Just because The Last of Us has lengthy cutscenes and a few moments where you walk around does not make it unqualified to be called a game. Especially when it has traditional game mechanics, and requires player involvement to progress
Just a bit.
I disagree, I think a video game should be a fully interactive experience that focuses more on gameplay and the action in the game than the story itself. A game can have a good story and fantastic gameplay, you don't need to settle for just one. But honestly, that's just my opinion. If you disagree that's completely alright and I respect your opinion, but to me, it's just not a video game. It's a tour.
Look I've already explained what I meant by this further down in the thread, I'd really like to not explain it again. If you'd like, you can go to page 2 where I've written out a few comments explaining why I feel this way and I've also mentioned I completely accept the fact that it's all opinion and it's fine if people disagree, I'm not an asshat who enforces opinions on to people. If you don't want to read any of them and just cut right to the "Fuck you! The Last of Us is the best!!" (not assuming anything about you, just basing past experience) then I gladly accept that with open arms.
I posted this before reading any further comments, sorry!
